$20 laundry day

November 1, 2010

Today, I was responsible. After eating breakfast, I noticed the battery on my camera was about to die. So, what would any food blogger do? Well, bring along your camera charger of course.

What would the irresponsible food blogger do? Leave her battery plugged in behind her desk at school

Epic. Fail.

So, I’m going to tell you a little story.

Once upon a time, there was the most beautiful princess in all the land…

Okay, no. Scratch that.

Let’s start over again.

Most times in my life, I really don’t mind doing housework. I love to cook, I love to clean (just not toilets). The one thing I really dislike doing? Laundry. I hate laundry. Now, I don’t mind throwing a load in. That is no big deal. The thing I hate most about laundry is putting it away. If I could hire a maid just to put my laundry away, I would. (If there are any applicants out there, please apply. I’ll pay you in cookies)

The husband doesn’t do laundry. In fact, he really doesn’t do most housework. I take care of the inside — he takes care of the outside. It’s a nice deal we have going on. With that in mind, I have a rule. Whatever I find in the washing machine, I get to keep. Sometimes, it’s not too exciting. In fact, most times it’s not too exciting. I have almost jumped up and down after finding a few quarters to put in our “Vacation Fund Jar” (yeah, we’re going in about 4 years okay?).

On Saturday, I was diligently putting a load of laundry in the dryer when I spotted something at the bottom of the washing machine.

Twenty dollars. $20 dollar. TWENTY DOLLARS!!!

The first thing I did was stuff it in my pocket. Then, the guilt crept into my heart. Twenty dollars is a lot of money to take for doing a load of laundry. Then I got over it.

And bought a new pair of boots.

Question: Have you ever found any money? What did you do with it?

PS — I totally wore a dress today so I wouldn’t have to jump into my pants.

I’m with you. Folding laundry is tedious work. I’m lucky that the hubby will cover his own clothes (mostly because he’s better at it than me).

When I find the occasional dollar or two, it immediately goes toward my coffee habit.

The husband doesn’t care how (or if) his clothes are washed as long as they don’t shrink.

Dollar or two? That’s usually my finds as well. :)

Hate folding laundry…it usually sits in piles for days…or until I wear them again :)

Your boots. are. so. cute. Love them!

I don’t like laundry either. I tend to air-dry a lot of my clothes, but I hate putting clothes away. Haha. :P

Every time I’ve found large quantities of money like that, I’ve always had to turn it in. Even though nobody ever claims it, it’s just a conscience thing I guess. Except this one time, some guy in front of me dropped $24 dollars out of his pocket and I lost him after the race, so I got to keep the money :P

I DO have a conscience - only it is my husband… and he knew. :)

Sometimes I find money in my coat pockets when I get them out of fall storage. Such an awesome thing!!! haha

Haha cute story. And cute boots!

I once found a $20 bill outside of a corn maze and got excited and said (rather loudly), “Look, I found $20!” and then someone come up and said they just lost that. I learned my lesson. Yes, I gave it to them…

I just bought those boots in black!! I wanted the brown, but they didn’t have my size.

They didn’t have my size in either color…. no joke. I squeezed my foot into a 7.5 when I wear an 8.

Where did you get them? I just moved to PA from FL and this is going to be my first real winter. Needless to say, I’ve got a lot of winter clothes shopping ahead of me!

Target! These are more “fall boots” though. They are “faux leather”, so they wouldn’t hold up very well in the snow. Dry weather only!

Whoa, twenty dollars is making out like a bandit! I hate the putting-away part of laundry too. $20 is good motivation, though. The big question - was it yours or his, anyway?! :P
I clean an office for people and was changing the trash one day, when I happened to spot a crisp, clean $10 bill in the bag. Uhh, really? In the trash? Are they that rich? Yes. haha. I felt a little guilty for keeping it - I mean, obviously it was an accident, but…what was I going to do? Write “I found this in the trash” and put it on their desk? They’d probably get upset that I was reading through their trash or something.
Those boots look nice and cozy :)

Haha I’ve never been so lucky to find $20 in the laundry! I love the boots you bought with it. :D

I actually don’t mind doing laundry because I love the feeling of having clean clothes!

I love clean clothes too, but honestly, I wouldn’t mind just buying a new outfit every time something got dirty. I could donate to charities. See? I’m doing the world a favor.

I have such a conscience…I feel guilty over every little thing! I never pick up money because I feel like someone might come back looking for it. That being said, a cute pair of boots like yours might absolve my conscience??

Ashlei November 2, 2010 at 11:04 am

I would’ve kept it too ;P

That’s a good deal you’ve got with the he does the outside you keep up with the inside. I only hope I can be so lucky to find a guy like that someday. lol

I do my laundry at home, so unfortunately the only money I find is my own, and even then it’s a rare occurance.

I think a poll should be done of least favorite household chores, it seems as though everyone I know (including myself) hates folding laundry the most!

I do my laundry @ home too - it was my husband’s. :)

I rarely get lucky and find money. If I do, then I always check to see if the likely owner is around. If not, its for keeps.

I once came across about 350-400 buck in the Mall of America. My friend and I reported it and no one claimed it, so we got to keep it! I think we each got around 200 and I was only in 6th grade so it was a HUGE deal!

I love it when that happens! Sadly, it’s just not enough…
But that’s surely just a reward - doing the washing earned you those boots :-)

Hahaha love the boots! I don’t think I’ve ever found more than like 5 bucks, which I’m sure I stuffed into my purse and ended up spending on Starbucks or something important :)

oh when I read this I thought I’d be able to sympathize with you because that’s how much it costs us to do laundry now that we have to go to a laundromat - your situation is much better! :) And where did you get those boots? I’ve been looking for a new pair and those look great!
