ketchup mandatory

November 9, 2010

Look who I found on my front porch this afternoon!

(Please look past the jail bars it seems I have around my porch. They make me embarrassed)

Remember when this little kitty visited us a while back? He hasn’t been around much lately, but I made eye contact with him on my way in the door. When I went by the window (to photograph some food of course), he was sitting there patiently waiting for me to return.

Since he was such a good kitty, I gave him some of the husband’s leftover chicken.

After I played pet shop for a few moments, I came back inside to do what I had originally set out to do. I bought some new hummus today since my crack in a tub Costco hummus is all gone. These were buy one get one free at the grocery store, so I figured I might as well take advantage of the great deal.

I’m a fan — the only downside is it is made with canola oil (I’d rather have olive oil), but let’s be honest here… I overlook that with my Costco hummus every single time I buy it. It’s just that good.

This afternoon I really wanted to do some strength training, but without having to leave the comfort of my own home. The only problem was I didn’t have any weights. So, I Googled “strength training at home without weights” and decided I would attempt some pushups and triceps chair presses. Can we just stop and talk about how stinking hard a regular push up is? In total, I did about 45. My arms are Jell-O and my core is screaming at me. Holy cow!

When I was done sweating like a pig “strength training”, I decided it was time to get started on dinner. I decided the requirement for dinner tonight was all my food had to be dipped in ketchup. If you’re thinking that only left me with a few options, I really want to laugh right now. You are underestimating my love for ketchup — I’ll dip it in anything.

One thing I knew for sure is I had to bust open my Newman’s Own Organic loot! Sally from Newman’s sent me a great package full of gluten free, vegan products to try out. I was absolutely in awe yesterday when I opened it up! So many great things to review! Thank you Newman’s Own!

One thing you must know about me is I not only douse everything in ketchup, but in olive oil as well. I rarely use actual cooking spray (unless I am baking something), so I go through a lot of oil.

I was super excited to see a WHOLE bottle of organic olive oil in my package yesterday. I cracked it open to use on my dinner.

I’m no olive oil connoisseur, so I can’t tell you how it measures up to others, but I know it’s organic & that I like. What did I use it on you ask? EVERYTHING!

No seriously, I did. I tossed some sweet potatoes, carrots, and tofu in the olive oil. I roasted all in the oven with some spices (chili powder, garlic, pepper, basil) at 425 degrees for 30 minutes.

Everything was coated in about 3 pounds of ketchup… I’m a sucker for Jewel’s Organic Ketchup!

I just realized how much of an epic failure of a blogger I am right now for not taking a picture of my ketchup… seeing as the whole title to this post is dedicated to ketchup. ::sigh::

Question: Do you have a favorite condiment?

Everything in the world tastes better in ketchup. Definitely the most needed condiment ever!

I am so jealous of that olive oil…lol! I received my box from Sally about a week ago, it was full of cookies the boys are in heaven! If you have some of the prunes they are the absolute best!

i didn’t even realize the ketchup was missing util you pointed it out, and then i just about burst into laughter because yes…that is ironic that a post dedicated to hummus has no picture of it :P
what awesome loot from Newman’s!! share with the kitty, now! ;)

First off, I’m super impressed with how many pushups you can do! I think my max is about 12, and that’s with my knees down ;-) I love tricep dips though!
The title of this post made me laugh. My favorite condiment is vinegar, but my boyfriend puts ketchup on absolutely everything. When we go out to restaurants, the waiter usually ends up bringing a bowl of ketchup to the table because he really uses THAT much. haha. He went through withdrawal when we were in Australia because they don’t have American ketchup :(

By the way, I can’t wait to hear how the Newman’s products are!

Okay 45 pushups… in 10 minutes… with 5 breaks.

Did I forget to mention that?

I’m such a weirdo in not liking ketchup.

I hope we can still be friends. :)

I’m a big fan of buffalo sauce. I don’t have it often, but when I do… oh man, is it good!

I don’t even know you anymore.

But I <3 buffalo!

Big fan of extra virgin olive oil, organic ketchup and Parmesan cheese as toppings.

Canola oil is actually higher in omega-3′s than olive oil so think of that as your benefit!

I never knew that!

YOU DID 45 PUSHUPS??? You’re superwoman.

I don’t really use condiments but out of them all, ketchup is also my favorite. IT’S SO GOOD. And I don’t even like tomatoes.

I am with you on the ketchup; so good!

I am impressed by your push-up achievements…you go girl!

Newman’s Own gives the BEST samples. I got a package last spring and it was amzing!!

Fave condiment = mustard. And hummus, if that’s considered a condiment too!

Reply

Jenny November 9, 2010 at 8:17 pm

I’m a pretty big hummus fan myself…unless we’re counting peanut butter :)

Reply

cleaneatingchelsey November 10, 2010 at 6:17 am

peanut butter is in its own food category, not to be confused with a condiment. :)

45 push ups in ten minutes with breaks is till pretty impressive if you ask me!

Ketchup wins as best condiment in my book. My best friends HATES it and I think that makes her a freak!

I can’t even do one push up properly. You think I’m kidding but I’m not! It’s quite sad actually.

I love ketchup! Anything is palatable with ketchup and/or salsa.

Charmaine @ Perfectly Picked November 9, 2010 at 9:44 pm

I’m not much of a condiment kinda person (I think I over-loaded on ketchup when I was younger), but I do agree with you on the olive oil (which is what I kept pouring all over my cauliflower tonight!)

Katie November 9, 2010 at 10:08 pm

I’m a mustard girl, but ketchup is a close second.

Push ups and pullups are the best exercises! One of the P90X dvds is just many variations of those 2 things, and it is a KILLER.

Mmm your veggie selection looks tasty! I love roasted carrots, nothing like em. What is the texture of the tofu like when you roast it?

Reply

cleaneatingchelsey November 10, 2010 at 5:47 am

Have you ever tried Emily’s tofu? It’s a little less crispy than that - I use bigger chunks, so the outside gets all crunchy, but the inside stays a little chewy. <3 it!

Organic EVOO for roasting veggies is a must :)

Favorite condiment is probably mustard because of its tanginess. Ketchup is good with squash fries though!

Ketchup is my condiment BFF. Also, that looks like a rocking sampling package! Alsox2, that kitty is super cute :)

I’m so impressed you can do 45 push ups!! I can do like… 10, haha. :P

I like ketchup but I honestly rarely eat it. I can’t even remember the last time I had it! I guess my favourite condiment is probably mustard. It’s a must on my sandwiches!

The only thing I remember about visiting Montreal when I was a kid is that our host dipped his French Toast in ketchup. Random but it stuck with me because I thought he was nuts!
I am not much of a condiment girl, for me it’s a toss up between soy sauce or fancy salts (herbed or smoked).

cleaneatingchelsey November 10, 2010 at 7:50 am

Okay, french toast & ketchup I’m not sure about. However, I won’t knock it til I try it. Bread, eggs, cinnamon, ketchup? Perhaps.

It’s ALL about ketchup :-)
I don’t know what your best brands are but here, England, it’s got to be Heinz… I tried to economise the other day by buying a supermarket own brand - never again! Some money just can’t be saved…

Reply

cleaneatingchelsey November 10, 2010 at 4:59 pm

I would do Heinz, and it’s a big one here, but I go for the one without the high fructose corn syrup. The one that is organic from Heinz I am not a fan of!
