Those are the words in scripted on a necklace which was a gift from my mother in law for Christmas two years ago. I don’t wear the necklace every day, as I love costume jewelry more than you can imagine, but I hardly ever stop to think about the meaning of the words on the necklace.
Love Life. Be Brave.
A simple message, really — however, a powerful message.
Based on what you read on a daily basis from me, you wouldn’t be surprised to know I am a passionate person. Passionate about everything really. However, you wouldn’t believe it if I told you that I am probably the best person at wallowing in self pity.
I am stubborn by nature. If something goes wrong, I’ll wallow in it, get mad about it, cry about it, and be in a sullen mood for a while. I have been quite the Debby Downer the last few days (internally and towards the Husband) all because of a frustrating doctor’s appointment on Tuesday. That started it — then when two pairs of my pants didn’t fit yesterday, it went all downhill. An internal battle ensued and held me quite captive for the last 48 hours. You want to know what? I’m sick of it. Done. Finished.
A personal goal I need to create is to be more positive — change what I can and accept what I can’t. After that, all things will fall into place.
So, today, I choose to love life. I choose to be brave.
I choose to have a more positive outlook on the things happening in my life. I choose to be thankful for what I have been blessed so richly with.
Like holding the first snow of the season in my hands after jumping up and down like a five year old….
Thanking God my family is able to put good food on the table every day without struggling to make ends meet…
Being able to express my individuality through the color purple… lots and lots of purple.
Patting myself on the back for coming up with an amazing snack — and not minding the stomachache which it produced for too long.
Having the most supportive family, including (now) two incredible mothers who coach me through the many trials of life…
Being part of a profession which allows me to inspire young minds to create, learn, question, think, and yearn for more.
Having a creative outlet in this blog to write, express, learn, and form friendships.
Eating chocolate — lots and lots of chocolate.
Receiving emails of screen shots from bloggie buddies that make you roll on the floor with laughter.
My marriage to the most wonderful man God could have ever given me.
With that, I challenge you — whether you are struggling because of silly frustrations such as your pants not fitting to situations much greater than mine to do the following:
Love Life. Be Brave.

Thanks girl…I really needed this today. I left work sick today, and was frustrated because I hate leaving my students with a sub. Then, everything has been frustrating me lately…I am feeling like a Grinch. Thanks for giving me a little kick in the butt…sometimes we all need one.
What is that snack all about?! It looks dee-lish!
more to come on the snack later!!
I love that quote! I need to remember that when I get stressed or frustrated - especially in the last 2 weeks of the semester before break.
Hang in there…a little positive outlook and some more chocolate can cure anything
I needed this post tonight- I’m currently going through the “pants don’t fit” problem. Thanks for the reminder!
Best. Post. EVER.
Wow. I am so honored that you shared so much of “you” with us.
I can tell that you do love life and are brave and I know you know it too…Its just we have to remind ourselves so I LOVE that you did this and I love your little snowball grin and the photobooth shots of your hubbie and your purple splendor.
Wanna know something weird? I have worn the ring with the same words as your necklace. (I flipped when I read your post title); It’s interesting though I always read it
Be Brave. Love Life.
Because, for me, in order to love life I have to be brave.
For the next little while I’m gonna flip it, though.
Your post made me realize. …
Because I already love life, so Imma hafta BE BRAVE.
Thanks to the thankity -thankness, Chelsey.

I’m sorry you’ve hit some rough spots this week- but I love your outlook!
Keep on rollin’- the weekend is almost here!
Yahoo!
love that quote + love your blog!!
I NEEDED this post! What a beautiful necklace with an even more beautiful meaning. I am stubborn too and when things go wrong I need to look at all of the amazing things in life. I loved the snow picture! We are so alike…..lots of chocolate makes my list too:)
I KNEW some sort of candy would make your list.
I love this! What beautiful words to live by. Thank you for reminding me to continue to be grateful for such a beautiful life that I have when I often take it for granted.
Now, lets talk about this snack some more, shall we?
more to come on that snack later…
Your post made me truly happy! It reminded me of all the blessings God has given me in life and to always remain positive. Little things just don’t matter that much!
Beautiful post, thank you. Lovely way to start December off strong.
Aww I love this! “Love Life. Be Brave” is totally going up on my bulletin board right now
Plus, it’s awesome that you changed your attitude by focussing on the awesome things in your life!
What a great post
I love that photo of you with the snow and the glowing happy face! Reminder to myself - don’t hate on the snow. There are people that would kill for snow. (Weirdos.)
You’re amazing, Chelsey! I love reading your blog every day. I like how unique you are- you write about the things that make you happy, and the things that frustrate you. I appreciate your honesty! I’m sorry you’ve been feeling blue. But it’s okay to feel like that sometimes! It makes the good times feel even better
Thank you for sharing!
Thanks Melissa - I like to be “real” here. I’m glad you appreciate it!
this is seriously a beautiful post- and i love that necklace. AMEN girl! you are awesome
Ditto.
This is such a lovely post, Chelsey. I am amazed by your inner and outer beauty on a daily basis but this post goes above and beyond. I couldn’t agree more with everything you said. Everything has a way of working itself out in the end and you DO have lots to be thankful for
Thank you Lauren!
What a great message that necklace has!
That is a great inspirational thought!
And I love your top in your profile picture, very cute!
Good for you! It’s so important to remember to appreciate this gift of life we’ve been given. I love this post.
Aww, what a great post! I totally know what you mean - it’s so easy to get into a trap of wallowing and being negative. But it’s sooo true that there are so many things in life to be happy about and it’s much more worth our while to focus on those things!
Reading this is such a great start to my day. I tend to get overly upset about stupid things too- but it’s a waste of the time that God has given us here. It’s okay to get sad or frustrated, but it’s important that we never forget how many beautiful things there are in life
I love this post! (and the color purple).
Love these simple reminders.
And I’m very much like you and will wallow for as long as my hubby will put up with it.
Hope your weekend is fabulous!
haha - me too. Sometimes he just looks at me like, “are you kidding me?”
What a great necklace. Such a simple phrase, yet so powerful! I’m on the lookout now for this for my sister. I think it would make a great Christmas gift for her. Do you have any idea where your mother -in-law got it?
she works at a store that sells home decor and jewely - I’m guessing if you goodgle the phrase with necklace at the end, you will find something!
Thank you for understanding my crying problem. Stupid hormones. I am excited for you to make the dough balls, they are excellent!
Aww I loved this post! You know what else I love? The color purple! And I’m ALSO glad that I can wear all the purple I want! haha
I hope you have a fantastic weekend!
You have no idea how much I needed to read this today. Thank you
Jen
LOVE this. So encouraging! xo
Great post Chelsey! Keep up the positive thinking!
Chelsey, you are amazing and it’s extremely inspiring to see you reaching out for positivity! I know how hard it is to be positive when there are things trying to bring you down. You’re gorgeous and try not to let those pesky pants bother you. <3
Great post, I needed this today, thanks!
I needed this too, I feel like I’ve had to be more than brave lately. Thanks so much for reminding me.
Ahhh oh my gosh, I’m so sorry I’m behind, but I freaking LOVE that necklace! I have a thing for circular necklaces, and that phrase is simply amazing! I wonder if there’s any way to find it now…!
oh I love your blog. I’m SO glad it’s now in my life. Love that necklace and the message!
