Me!
First and foremost, I’d like to thank the Academy. I have so many people out there rooting me on, training me into the blogger I’m meant to be. It took a lot of work to get to this point — a lot of blood, sweat, and tears brought me to this exact moment. I had to go through so many bowls of oatmeal, many jars of nut butter, and an unknown amount of hummus to shape me (pun intended) precisely into who I’m supposed to be. I’ve had to trick the Husband, put our marriage on the line, and get brutally honest. I have to say — it was worth it.
All for what you ask? The Stylish Blogger Award, of course.
Rules are rules, and I am supposed to link back to the person who gave me the award. But since I’m horrible at following through, I failed to properly receive the award the first time it was given. So, to all who passed it along to me — thank you!
I’m not sure what all entails under the “stylish” category, but if it has anything to do with clothes, I’m far from it. Need I remind you of my casual socks? Paired with my argyle sweater today (no joke) they were quite the hit in the fifth grade. Things didn’t get much better when I got home and my favorite sweat pants were pulled on faster than I dive at a new bottle of ketchup. I have a feeling you all are just trying to build my self confidence slowly but surely — I appreciate your kindness.
Seven Random Facts about Me:
- My childhood dog died because he ate too many pairs of my underwear. It’s sad, but true. Good old Duffy with his horrible under bite was a white ball of fluff who designed his own death. Before the underwear were many pairs of socks, Barbie shoes, and a silk belt from pajamas my aunt brought home for me from China. RIP Duffy — I still miss the way you dropped whatever you were chomping on whenever I screamed “MOOOOMMMM!” loudly.
- I am far too sensitive — like way too much. I cry at the drop of a hat. I need to buck up and be a man. Although I seem relatively calm, cool, and witty when I write (::pats self on back::), this couldn’t be any further than the truth in real life. I’m actually kind of quiet because I get lost in my thoughts from time to time. My mom is probably laughing at me saying I was “quiet” right about now.
- I will purposely eat less at dinner just so I can have a snack later. I never stuff myself because I look forward to my late night snack every night. It is usually some kind of protein muffin with fruit or fruit/nut cereal. I love my snacks.
- My eyes change colors when I cry. The ring around my iris is navy blue, the iris is a little lighter blue with specks of gray and green. When I cry, my eye color is totally green. Not that I’ve ever stood in front of the mirror to analyze this or anything…
- If I’m making a savory dish, expect garlic to be included. I more or less double/triple the amount of garlic a recipe calls for. One would think I am prone to vampire attacks or something.
- I forgive everyone — for everything. Forgiveness is like the forefront of being a Christian, and sometimes it’s hard. However, it is necessary. I may not always forget what has happened, but it is impossible for me to hold grudges. I do not hate anyone for that reason alone.
- When it comes to grading papers for my students, I’m really tough. I expect correct grammar, punctuation, sentence variation, and expanded ideas. I have more than likely gone against everything I have ever told my students to do on this blog. Whoops.
Believe it or not, that was really hard for me to do — I sat here and racked my brain for over 45 minutes trying to think of those. Usually it only takes me about 30 minutes to write my post for the night, including picture editing. Acceptance speeches are so hard.
I am also supposed to tag 15 people with this award as well, but well, I can’t do that. Not because I am frustrated because this has taken so long, but because there are far too many incredible bloggers out there to just choose a mere 15 of you.
My blue sweatpants are crying out for one of my oversized high school sweatshirts to be worn right now — I just scream “stylish”, don’t I?
Question: Can you fill me in on a random fact about yourself?

{ 53 comments… read them below or add one }
I think you did a fantastic job on these facts! I do the same thing with dinner. I would be devastated if I wasn’t in the mood for my snack. Wait, that would never happen, I’d force myself into discomfort just to eat my nightly bowl of cheerios!
Random fact: I am twenty-eight, and I have never been to a club. Weirdo!
When I wrote mine i think i spent a solid hour and a half on it. Not because I didn’ thave enough random facts, I just kind of brainstormed and cut out the less interesting ones. But also got lost in my own thoughts about what facts truly defined me, how I wanted to portray myself, etc…
I really enjoyed reading this though, you’re such an engaging, funny writer.
Let’s see… more random facts…
I used to wish I were blonde, had blue eyes, and coudl be named Melissa. I’m not entirely sure why…
I am a total garlic lover too! Most all of my dinners start with sauteed onions and lots-o-garlic!
Random fact: I eat a relatively clean diet full of fruits, vegetables, and grains, but I have a little soft spot in my heart for the overly processed, NOT real fruit- filled strawberry pop-tarts…with frosting! Precisely the reason that I do not purchase them!
My eyes change colors too when I cry!!!! I thought I was the only one!
My eyes are blue and turn green when I cry, too! We have super powers!
Super powers unite!
MINE DO TOO! Is it weird that I know this?? Mine get like extra blue, it’s very strange. And I think it makes Ryan feel extra sorry for me whenever it happens (which recently, has been a lot… stupid winter blues)
I’ve been trying to write my seven facts for two days. I’m still not done. So hard!
Garlic should always be doubled…or tripled.
I need to start practicing eating less at dinner to leave room for a snack…I love snacks!
Going along with the eye color fact that you shared about yourself…my eyes used to be “changeable blue”. That’s what I called them. They were like chameleons and changed to different shades of blue depending on what I was wearing. White shirts made my eyes the ugliest gray-blue.
Now, however, they’re a weird greenish color. No more changeable and no more blue. It has actually made me really sad. I even googled this weird phenomenon and was told that it happens to 10% of caucasians. Strange!
My eyes do that too!
Wow-we have a lot in common! Specifically, numbers 2-7. Seriously. Although with number 3, I sometimes stuff myself with dinner and still eat a late-night snack. Oops.
Do your students know about your blog?
Oh gosh no - I try to keep everything about my personal life absolutely private from my kids! I hope no one stumbles across it one day!
Fun facts! I also am VERY sensitive… but these days, I’ve been trying to see it as a positive
I think being sensitive is the first step to being caring.
#’s 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6 are JUST like me too! Maybe they’re blogging characteristics? My eyes get SUPER green though when I cry (not that I’ve checked either)
oh ya, lighter dinners are must for those late nigth snacks. I look forward to it EVERY NIGHT!
I love your facts!! I swear - thinking of random facts is the hardest thing. Maybe because they’re just “normal” to us, and we don’t realize that it’s not something anyone else would know?
I’m a garlic fiend, too…and nearly always double/triple….and am also a snack lover!
Random fact: I can’t stand for anyone to put things on my counters! I know weird huh? Most people chunk their things down on the counters and continue on, me - I will totally go off. The poor hubster still hasn’t figured that out after all these years, or maybe he just doesn’t care!
I get that!
I’m trying to figure that one out too - i HATE clutter - counters, tables, anything - I can’t take it!
Sweats are the epitome of style
Hey, as long as it’s comfy right!? Well congrats!! Loved reading the little tidbits.
#2, #5, and #6 —-could have written them myself.
Do our tears smell like garlic, too?
And I seriously cannot hold a grudge. I’m happy about that…but yet my therapist wants me to realize the difference betweem “forgiving” and “allowing” ….so I’m trying to remember that.
That person is/was a butthead. And I love them and it’s all good. But still.. they were a butthead and so I need to honor the part of me that was hurt “just a little” … You know what I mean? Honor your anger and hurt for what it is…even though we just love everyone anyways.
OH, I loved learning more about you!! I especially like the fact that you save room for “dessert”!!
And, #6 is truly admirable. You are a living example of a Christian.
I’m glad you got this because you are TOTALLY a stylish blogger
I just love reading your day and your eats!
I really like number 6. I believe forgiving is the most courageous quality a person can have… It takes courage to forgive those that hurt you because you are making yourself vulnerable again, But this is the right thing to do! Great post!
I’m lovin’ #5 — Garlic is my favorite!
I feel like I could have totally written your numbers 1-6 myself! And even though I am not a teacher, I feel that if I were number 7 would be true for me, too.
My crazy fact is that the name of my first pet growing up (a blacklab)….was flowerpot. “heeeeeere flowerpot flowerpot, come hereee flowerpot”
Yeah. People definitely stared when we’d take her to the park.
That is HILARIOUS!
ahah iam the same with 4!!! I ALWAYS save room.. hehe.. and wow your eyes change colors that freakin awesome!!!
I’ve never finished a can of beer, but I can take shots like a pro. There! I said it.
I’m so glad you didn’t tag 15 people either. It’s enough to rack your brain for this kind of stuff!
Wow! I can’t say the same it true for myself - although now I understand where my stomachaches came from in college from it… darn gluten.
Congrats and love the facts! I too am obsessed with garlic-which i’m sure everyone around me loooooves
I know! It’s surprisingly hard to come up with random facts about yourself! That’s why I still haven’t written my Stylish Blogger post, even though I was tagged to do it.
I always look forward to my evening snack too! Even if I’m still fairly full from dinner, I almost always still eat something before I go to bed.
I think this would have taken me a lot longer…I can’t even think of one random fact to share with you…sorry! I’ll keep thinking
I am so with you on the garlic and the crying!! You seem like such a lovely well rounded person! xo
hehe I enjoy snacks after dinner too. I def need something sweet after. You seem like you would be very precise in your grading..one of those ‘smart, punctual, on top of life’ teachers
I cry at the drop of a hat, too. It’s kind of a problem!
Definitely garlic. My random fact is that I actually love garlic so much I tried to make garlic cookies when I was a kid. Fail.
Blech!
amen to the garlic fact!!!! <3 i'm totally with you.
Your eyes sound really similar to mine!! I don’t think they change color when I cry, but they have a dark turquoise ring around them and are pale blue-green. Everyone always notices “the ring” because it’s so much darker than the rest of my iris!
I never used to cry, but now, like you I cry all the time…I seem to be getting more sensitive with age :/
Hmm…random fact…I LOVE random useless information and I know a ton of it. For example, did you know that Dr. Suess wrote the book Green Eggs and Ham because he made a bet with his editor that he could write an entire book using no more than 50 different words…
I did know that about Dr. Suess! I love random trivia too - my dad loves it more though!
A fellow garlic fiend! I love you
A random fact? hmm…my eyebrows are the first thing I dry when I come out of the shower
That is HILARIOUS! I love that fact.
I love your 7 random facts! My Mom’s eyes change colors when she cries too-so there’s a random fact for you. About my Mom. haha
MY eyes do that too!! they go from just blue to this crystal beautiful blue, I wished they stayed that color, but I dont particularly care to cry forever..
I do the same thing with my late-night snack! It’s like my little “me” time and how I relax before bed.
Awww Duffy, Hudson eat my freaking undies all the time! Gross. I have to wash undies everyday so he doesn’t break into the hamper
I loved reading this post because I can relate to a lot of them! like being sensitive
xxoo
I hope Hudson lives a long and healthy life!
I catch myself thinking “I can’t have that” for dinner, but only because I NEED chocolate raisins before I go to bed!
A random fact about me is my porn name (from first pet and street you grew up in) is Lulu St John
I’m super sensitive, too! Maybe that’s why we’re drawn to writing?
I think so - because 95% of all commenters said they were sensitive too!
