I feel like I’ve been distant for the past couple of days. Lauren posted on Monday, and the post I wrote yesterday was really written on Sunday. I feel like I haven’t blogged in FOREVER! In a way, I missed you — even though I’ve been around. It just hasn’t been the same.
Today, I’m going to get down, dirty, and to the point. My head is pounding, chili has to be made, and Charlie has puppy school tonight. Someone pass the chocolate.
A few weeks ago Annelies at Attune Foods contacted me and wanted to know if I would like to try a few of their cereals. After hearing I was gluten free, she immediately offered up two boxes of their Erewhon cereal — Crispy Brown Rice and Cornflakes.
Unfortunately, I was unable to test out the corn flakes since I am also corn free. My stomach does not appreciate corn products, so I decided to steer clear of this cereal for that reason.
Lucky for my mom, she is NOT corn free and offered to take the box off my hands. We had a professional taste testing session — complete with us standing in the kitchen and her eating right out of the box by the handful. We’re classy — I hope you know that by now.
The verdict? It was good — no sugar, no sodium. Actually, it was just corn! We like those clean products around this joint. The only problem I have with corn flakes is there is so little protein or fiber to actually make a meal out of it. I would have had to eat about 23023918 bowls (okay maybe 3 — you know I exaggerate) to get full. However, I eat a lot — so that’s not saying much.
I also tried the Crispy Brown Rice cereal.
Again, it was good. It’s hard to go wrong with rice cereal. I cannot see myself making a meal out of it, but I love using brown rice cereal in baked goods. I see a lot of granola bars in the future for me. Perhaps some crispy brown rice energy balls as well! Another great idea for brown rice cereal is to use it as a coating for some crispy tofu. You better believe I’m doing that next week!
Overall, I was very pleased with these products. Taste wise, the cereals were spot on, but nutritionally satisfying could use a little work.
Speaking of free products, I’ve felt guilty that I have not given you all anything in a while. Let’s face it — without you, my blog would be horrible. So because I want you all to feel the lurve (read: love), I decided to give you all a little something. Okay, not all of you — one of you.
One of you will receive a box of Fannie May chocolates, a 3-pack of Choxie chocolate bars, and a special surprise from yours truly. I’m not going to tell you what the special surprise is (and it has nothing to do with the fact that I don’t know what it’s going to be yet either).
It’s okay — you can call me out on pawning some of my millions of chocolate bars I received from my students for Valentine’s Day. I’m passing on the LOVE!
