Today I am completely honored to have Tina from Faith Fitness Food guest posting. Tina has a way of making me think every day about what I’m putting my efforts into, and this post is no difference. Enjoy! We are doing a guest post swap this evening, so you can find my post on “Perfectionism” over at Tina’s humble adobe!
Hi! My name is Tina.
You can find me blogging over at Faith Fitness Fun. I discuss a variety of topics related to health and fitness, from workout ideas to intuitive eating. Stop by my blog for genuine honesty on all things and my personal journey back to fitness post-baby.
The Blogging Vortex
We always hear talk about balance in the blogging world. Balance and moderation in eating sweets and treats. Having balance with workouts to decrease any chances of overtraining and injury. What about blogging balance though?
Perhaps you can relate to the scenario below?
Hear about blogging. Think “I can do that. It can’t be too hard”. Quickly realize just how much time and energy goes into posting. Get frustrated that your time and energy isn’t being recognized by other readers. Think about giving it up, but decide to keep with it because it is fun. Make connections over time and gain some readers. Make more connections and fall in love with blogging even more. Put even more time and energy into blogging. Become overzealous with commenting on other blogs, checking page views, trying to gain new readers, thinking about blogging topics…blog, blog, blog, blog, blog!
Sound familiar? If not, you are likely in the midst of that cycle yourself. Or in denial. Or both. The blogging vortex happens to the best of us.
I will readily admit I have an extreme passion for blogging. I could happily do blog related tasks for hours on end. But, I shouldn’t. I have a family. They come first. I have other passions and goals. They matter too. I have pesky to-do lists that do in fact need to get done. They take time. I have had to find a way to balance all the things I care so strongly about. So, how do I keep the blogging vortex from sucking me in too deep at the detriment to the rest of my life?
I remember why I started. For fun and a hobby. I imagine most of us started out with that goal. Blogging should not induce stress. I have managed to find a balance by realistically looking at my schedule and figuring out how blogging can fit in with my life. I keep priorities in line. I fully believe that if you have fun with blogging then your blog will do its thing just fine. I only experienced the growth and opportunities I have found with my blog after giving up control and allowing it to continue as the fun activity I imagined. Give what you can realistically give to blogging and nothing more. I promise that living life will fulfill you way more than blogging about it. Speaking of which — if you’re always blogging…how will you have a life to blog about anyways? 😉
Question — Have you ever found yourself sucked into the “blogging vortex”? How? And how did you find balance with blogging? Share your tips!
