what’s for dinner?

February 26, 2011

There is a definite reason why I don’t blog all of my meals every day. Actually there’s a lot of reasons. I can play up the hype with one meal or recipe, but a whole day’s worth it hard for me. I admire those who can do it though!

1. I don’t want to be looked at as an “example” to others on one should eat. Every person has different needs and preferences.

2. I don’t have the drive to photograph all of my meals.

3. I get really mad when my photos aren’t good because it’s dark outside.

4. Most of my meals are really boring.

Case in point: Last week, I made baked beans. I made a lot of baked beans. I made so many baked beans that my crock pot was full of them. What was a girl to do with so many baked beans, especially when her husband doesn’t like them?

I ate a lot of beans last week.

Monday: Baked sweet potato stuffed with campfire baked beans and roasted brussels sprouts

February 23, 2011 012

Tuesday: Happy Herbivore’s Mexican Cabbage

February 23, 2011 019

with a side of gluten free bread, hummus, and tomatoes

February 23, 2011 017

Wednesday: Baked tofu, roasted kabocha, and roasted brussels sprouts

 February 19, 2011 058

Thursday: Spinach salad topped with balsamic vinegar, hummus, and nutritional yeast. I also had more brussels sprouts and baked beans (can you see them?)

February 23, 2011 035

Friday: Mexican fajita salad and refried beans at a Mexican restaurant (!!!!!!)

Apparently I’ve been eating brussels sprouts like it’s my job as well. That’s what happens when you buy a two pound bag of them… and your Husband won’t touch them with a 30 foot pole. One thing I won’t ever deny myself of is what I crave. All of those foods are what I wanted at the time I had them.

The Husband and I have been homeowners for exactly one year! We closed on our house on February 26, 2011. After a five hour closing (it was horrible), we were glad the entire process was done. However, it was just the beginning! We (and when I say we, I mean the Husband — I was the delegator) spent the next 5 months renovating our house to make it a home. The first thing that went? That door.

Question: What was your favorite dinner this week?

That’s why I don’t food blog either. I seriously can eat the same things over and over and over. It’s what I like so I’m fine with it. But oh boy would it get boring to post or read about. LOL

:) That’s how I feel too.

I made a really good marinated tofu bake last week! Delicious :-)

HA that’s the same reason I don’t post everything! Most of my meals are either the same, or just plain dull! Who wants to see a photo of a PB+J sandwich every day?!

And that photo and The Husband at your new house is so CUTE!! And I like the door…bad taste on my part…? :P

cleaneatingchelsey February 26, 2011 at 10:15 pm

I’ll send the door to you.

I had egg + cheese on an English muffin two times this week for dinner, oatmeal almost every morning, and and fruit and veggies for lunch on most days. It’s the food of a busy college student. No one wants to see that :) .

Yeah, a lot of my meals are the same too. I love them, and so I have them. Though I do like to spice things a bit here and there. My favorite meal this week was my FIRST OIAJ!!!! :D

yep that is EXACTLY why I don’t post all my meals!
Favourite dinner this week - tonight’s! I made a smoothie with [rotten] banana, kale, cooked onion & kabocha squash, vanilla, frozen strawberrries, milk…I think that was all…with a side of some amazing tofu-corn burger I found. It was gooood :D

My favorite dinner this week was some Dr. Fuhrman veggie chili. But, tonight’s dinner might be the best if I can bribe my hubby to go get some Mexican take-out for me!

cleaneatingchelsey February 26, 2011 at 10:16 pm

That would be amazing if you could bribe him into mexican!!

I used to post all my meals when I first started my blog, and then I realized that I hated photographing every single thing I ate (and like you, I often eat the same thing a zillion times in a row!). Back in my blog’s infancy, I remember wanting my blog to be like those of the “the big bloggers” who generally document everything they ate, but I’m happy that my blog has become something that better represents who I am. Plus, if my readers were to be subjected to all my boring repeat meals, they would be bored out of their minds!

I felt the same way - if you go back to June 2010, you’ll see EVERYTHINNNNG. Even up until a few months ago I was still doing that. I love reading others blogs where they do that, but they are posting 2-3 times a day so the posts are short and sweet.

mm Brussels Sprouts!! I’ve actually been fortunate enough to have had them twice this week!! Sometimes (often) my college doesn’t serve them at all.
That’s one thing about being in college and living on campus, you never (usually) get the same thing twice. Sometimes, though, I wish they’d serve the same thing more often.

I am the same reason as you about daily eats. Boring, repetitive, photo quality issues, dont want to be judged/looked up to/looked down to/compared, and really, just dont have the desire, either!

Your beans. Oh, i want those.
And the cabbage dish looks phenomenal!

Congrats on your 1 yr!

Amy @ Second City Randomness February 26, 2011 at 6:33 pm

I definitely eat the same thing over and over. I’ve made a veggie scramble and salad almost every single way possible…

Kate @ RunWithKate February 26, 2011 at 6:36 pm

My weekly meals are always simple and boring. By the time I get home from work & running it’s almost 8:00, so my dinners consist of warmed up black beans smeared on whole wheat pita, topped with avocado. Maybe a side of cous cous. Completely unexciting, but actually delicious. I love the simple foods.

All of your meals actually look fantastic! I’d eat them all.

Parita @ myinnershakti February 26, 2011 at 7:07 pm

I don’t like to blog about every one of my meals either because, quite honestly, they aren’t always that interesting! My favorite dinner this week was sushi (at a restaurant). I need to learn how to make it at home!

Reply

cleaneatingchelsey February 26, 2011 at 10:18 pm

I know I could never make sushi as good as they make it at the restaurants. I’m down with just buying it!

How creative making a potato with baked beans inside. Your meals look amazing and I have the same problem with the lighting. I hate how I can’t get good natural lighting in my house

Me neither - I can’t wait until it’s light out until late!

I could never food blog because my food choices are….gross at best.

You could totally freeze the baked beans!

Reply

cleaneatingchelsey February 26, 2011 at 10:18 pm

I totally ate them all.

Gina February 26, 2011 at 8:45 pm

I used to try and blog about everything I ate, but my eats got boring pretty quick. And I get stuck in food ruts often so I’d be posting the same thing quite frequently.

The best thing I ate for dinner this week was my wrap I had tonight!

Reply

carlee February 26, 2011 at 8:52 pm

Thats EXACTLY to a Tee why I don’t blog all my eats anymore!

Reply

Katie February 26, 2011 at 9:17 pm

I just made a stir fry with this new curry seasoning I bought tonight. It looked nasty, but when you throw a bunch of veggies into a pan and add some sauce, that’s what’ll happen.

I hate photographing food. There, I said it.

my favorite dinner was probably tonight’s roast beef:)
and congrats on the 1 yr house anniversary!

Jess@HealthyExposures February 26, 2011 at 10:18 pm

I don’t think I could go back to the “daily eats” blogging, either. I didn’t hate it at the time, but now I’m way too lazy for that…and am way better at building up hype for one meal and just eating weird or repetitive things the rest of the time!
That said - I’m definitely a fan of leftovers. What people don’t realize, I think, is that the “fancy dinners” I make, I end up doubling or tripling so I have lunch AND dinner ready for the next workday ;) You just can’t argue with convenience!

Nicole @ Of Cookies & Carrots February 26, 2011 at 10:19 pm

Hmm I dunno what my favorite dinner was, to be honest I didn’t get to cook anything and nothing was particularly wonderful at school this week… And I was crazy-busy.
But I, too, have been eating ridiculous amounts of brussels sprouts… good thing that according to the whole foods bag theyr’e in the top 10 for ANDI (Aggregate Nutrient Density Index) aka they’er SUPER HEALTHY! :)

congrats on the house anniversary!!! :)

Best dinner of the week: Sushi with the sis on Thursday night! We always get 1 roll each of something we’ve never tried and split it! So much fun!

I don’t blog about every food I eat throughout the day, but usually I post breakfast and dinner. If anything, it helps keep me out of food ruts and gets my creative juices flowing!

I’ve been meaning to try baked beans on a sweet potato since I saw it on Lauren’s blog (SWYNTS)!

Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine February 27, 2011 at 6:55 am

YESS you know how much I love that hummus salad. The bomb, no? Lately I’ve been all about bagels for dinner. They’re so easy and filling when I get home from a long day!!

Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin February 27, 2011 at 6:55 am

I could never blog all my food either! I’m pretty sure no one wants to see me eating a turkey and avocado sandwich for lunch 4 times a week haha. :P

My favourite dinner this week was definitely our meal out at Blacktree!

Cara February 27, 2011 at 8:07 am

I also have similar feelings about blogging everything I eat. My blog started out that way, and I still do from time to time but it’s not the main focus. My meals can become pretty boring, when I like something I like it. I also don’t do it for a lot of the reasons you mentioned yourself.
Baked Beans and Brussels sprouts all week, looks amazing!
My favorite dinner was last nights. Taco salad with poached eggs on top!

I LOVE my slow cooker. And since my bf doesn’t like my “healthy” food I get to eat it over the course of the week too!

I’ve tried doing the whole post everything, but sometimes I don’t have the patience to take a picture! Get in my bellyyyyy food.

Reply

Meaghan February 27, 2011 at 9:23 am

I learned really quickly that doing the whole taking a picture of every meal, every day was not my thing. I think that’s part of the reason I started and stopped blogging so quickly in the summer. I am just starting over now and other than one meal or a recipe I plan on sharing I am definitely not planning on being only a food blogger. I am still figuring out what my blogging “style” will be and getting used to it, but I know what I don’t want it to be like at least. For one thing, I am still a student and no one needs to see me eat the same thing practically every single day.

Kelsey @ Unmitigated Grub February 27, 2011 at 10:00 am

I agree! It would be totally redundant for me to post every meal because I often eat the same foods or leftovers. You gotta use up the goods you buy, right? Especially produce before it goes bad! Those brussels sprouts look lovely! :)

I love baked beans! My boyfriend wouldn’t touch them when we started dating, but luckily I’ve converted him. I don’t think I’ll ever manage to get him to eat brussels sprouts though. All of your dinners look really delicious… I love baked beans and sweet potato together!
