when hunger strikes

February 28, 2011

Today’s guest post comes from Erin @ The Grass Skirt. I am in love with this post because let’s face it — I’m always hungry. Anyone in my family will tell you that you do not want to encounter me when I’m hungry. I’m just plain mean.

It is Erin from The Grass Skirt!  I’m so excited to be doing a guest post for Chelsey today.  I absolutely love her blog and think she’s hilarious (and no, she didn’t edit that into my post).  (edit: I would have if she didn’t already put it in there!)

Those of you who are familiar with my blog know that I recently quit my desk job, and last Friday was officially my last day.  Leaving meant freedom, but it also meant cleaning out my massive snack drawer
Let’s just say, I like to be prepared when hunger strikes…and my husband Michael can tell you, no one wants to see me get hungry!

Every Monday, I’d bring some fresh produce to work and a container of almond milk to stash in the office fridge.

My desk drawer was always stocked with several basic essentials, such as:
Peppermint and green tea bags
Goji berries

Flax crackers

A cute tea cup, a bowl, and silverware
Larabars, LUNA bars, and KIND bars
Almond butter packets
Walnuts and almonds
Fruit leather
Dried unsweetened mango
Banana chips
Kashi Go Lean Crunch cereal
Puffins Original cereal

Having your own stash of food at the office is ideal when you get a sudden urge for a snack or your energy levels start to decrease (anyone else familiar with the 3 pm slump?). Plus, it ensures that whatever you’re reaching for is healthy and nutritious.

Do you keep your own snacks at work? If so, what are they? My former boss always stored massive amounts of nuts in his office. I used to swear that he was part squirrel. (edit: there’s nothing wrong with that! :) )

Thanks to Chelsey for letting me be her guest (and now I have that song in my head from Beauty and the Beast…). Be sure to check me out over at The Grass Skirt and have a great day!

This is such great advice! I always keep emergency nuts/raisins on hand in the teacher’s lounge, as well as Larabars, fruits, and crackers/hummus. The only thing that gets in my way is eating it ALL!
