Who do you think you are?

April 1, 2011

Tonight’s guest post comes from Sarah @ Going on Goals. Sarah wrote a great reflection post of her life in the last seven years. I hope you enjoy! Oh yeah, and there’s a little surprise for you all at the end of this post!

I thought it was very timely that Chelsey assigned me to post a week before my 25th birthday. Boy has time flown by! Wasn’t I just celebrating my 18th birthday?!?! Wasn’t I just awaiting in anticipation the moment when I would graduate high school, head off to college and live life as an adult?

If you asked me 7 years ago where I would be today, I would have never described my lifestyle now. How many of you would have been able to predict your current lifestyle? It would be surprising if any of us followed the plans we dreamed up as children.

And honestly, I wouldn’t want the imaginary life I had dreamed up for myself as an 18 year old. I have learned a lot by making mistakes and living my life. Of all the things I have learned, the most important lesson to me has been simply this: live your own life.

Now, as I am on the horizon of my 25th birthday, I find myself reflecting on old photos. This one of my grandmother holding me on my 1st birthday really sticks out of the rest.

Maybe it is just the symbolism of the picture. A young child looking towards the camera and a grandmother looking at the child with so much hope, happiness and love. But, as I look at this photo and others of my grandparents, I can not help but reflect on my own life and theirs. I know this strong woman as my Oma, but I realize at one time she was young. She had hopes and dreams. And while I may never know what those hopes and dreams were, I do know that she has lived her life full of hope, happiness and love.

Regardless of what life throws me, I plan to live my life to the fullest, just as my Oma has.

Beautiful post Sarah! Your love for your Oma reminds me of a two series book by Francine Rivers — Her Mother’s Hope and Her Daughter’s Legacy. I HIGHLY recommend these books to anyone! You will be sucked in!

I promised you all a surprise, now didn’t I?

In the last few months, I have been absolutely floored by seeing how much Clean Eating Chelsey is steadily growing. I also know it has nothing to do with me, but everything to do with you — my readers. I don’t know what in the world makes you come back each day, but I’m glad that you do. I’m really not that funny, I’m actually a little bit whacky, and well, my life is boring.  And in all honesty, you all help me just as much as I “help” you. I couldn’t imagine going through my days without reading comments like this:

Or this:

Well, your friendships completely make my day. So as a big THANK YOU, I am going to be giving away some homemade baked goods of your choice to two lucky readers.

All you have to do is go to the Eat tab and pick a recipe (that can be shipped — I can’t be sending you any creamy rotini, people!!!) that you would like to have. Or, if none of my recipes look appetizing in the slightest, you can pick something else and add a link as well (I don’t be offended). This giveaway will be open for the rest of the weekend. Entries will be closed on Sunday night  (April 3rd) @ 11:59 pm, and a winner will be picked on Monday morning.

Happy Entering!

You are too adorable for words, geez!!! Reading your blog always makes me smile, you are just so real and genuine - loves it! Honestly, I WISH you could come to my house in CA and make me a bowl of oats for breakfast, since yours always look to die for. But since that is asking a little too much (haha) I would kill for your choc. zucchini muffins. If I won this, it would make my upcoming b-day so delightful, I’ll be praying to the bloggy gods :D
