krista: a weight loss journey

April 18, 2011

Tonight’s guest post comes from the lovely Krista @ Journey to a Healthy Berg. Krista has been on an AMAZING health and weight loss journey. You will be inspired by her story!

Hey everyone! My name is Krista and I blog over at Journey To A Healthy Berg. I am honored and so excited to be posting on Chelsey’s blog today. Her blog is one of the first healthy living blogs that I started reading, and to me she is sort of like a celebrity.

My blog is a little different from other healthy living blogs because it centers around my journey to lose weight. For my post tonight, I thought I’d talk a little bit about my weight loss story and how healthy living blogs have helped me as I work towards my goal, as well as the kinds of things that you can expect in my daily posts.

A little over two years ago, I was morbidly obese and tipped the scales at just over 280 pounds. I was extremely unhappy, but more importantly, I was unhealthy.

I started losing weight by doing simple things like watching what I ate and exercising at my school’s gym four or five days per week. Eventually I started counting calories and my work-outs increased in intensity. Before I knew it I was lifting weights almost every day in addition to doing cardio, and soon I started running for the first time in my life. Since January 2009 I have lost 115 lbs.

Many people who have lost weight will probably tell you that it took multiple tries to finally be successful, and this is because it is so easy to revert back to old habits and gain the weight back. This was the case for me time and time again, as I have made numerous attempts over the years to drop the pounds but have always put them back on. For a while, I worried that this would happen again this time around. I was afraid I would gradually start making poor food choices again and quit exercising, ultimately leading to packing on the pounds and returning right back to where I was.

However, this past summer I made an amazing discovery that I truly believe holds the key to my maintenance: healthy living blogs. All of the sudden, I was introduced to a huge community of individuals who have a passion for treating their bodies well, but they never deprive themselves. The amazing women behind these blogs inspire and motivate me to make smart choices not because I’m afraid of gaining weight, but because I want to be healthy.

It’s my goal to one day be able to channel the inner foodie in me and make my blog as creative and inventive as blogs like Clean Eating Chelsey, but right now I need to finish what I started. Since I would still like to lose about thirty more pounds (this would put me right in the middle of the healthy BMI range), I have to be pretty careful about what I eat. Sadly, this means that you won’t find things like amazing dessert recipes and pictures of the most mouth-watering bowls of oatmeal you’ve ever seen in your life (ahem, thanks for making me drool over your breakfast all the time, Chelsey!) on my blog. What you can expect to find are daily posts about the kinds of foods I’m eating, what I’m doing at the gym, my weight loss progress, and of course the happenings of my everyday life. I’m also a full time pharmacy student (I’ll be graduating in May 2012) so be prepared for lots of whining about exams, studying, and how I don’t have much of a life thanks to pharmacy school ;)

I look up to and admire women like Chelsey, and thanks to them, I know that I’m going to be able to maintain a healthy lifestyle for the rest of my life. I love all of my bloggy friends and I hope you decide to stop by and say hi!

Question: How have blogs inspired you to continue a healthy lifestyle or “hold you accountable”?

What a great story! Krista looks amazing and all while being in one of the most grueling majors there is (in my opinion at least).

Blogs have definitely helped me. I read a bunch of different bloggers that have different outlooks on health, food, and exercise and it only further proves that we all forge our own path in our journey to health and wellness.

I’m so thankful for everyone who pours out their hearts and imparts their knowledge of their blogs. Stop by mine if you like! <3

Girl, you have such an amazing story!!! I think blogs have had a huge influence on how healthy I am! I used to be focused on the “number” on the scale, and I ate tonnns of crap, and was afraid of things like oats and nuts because they had too many “calories”. but now I know it’s good to fuel your body with lots of healthy food! :)

This was a great story! Thanks for sharing.
Just saw on Twitter that about your job being reposted. I’m a teacher too and it’s stressful this time of year. I had the BEST teaching job three years ago and even though the school loved me and wanted me back, someone with more seniority applied for it the second year and got it automatically. I ended up in another school/grade and it was a terrible year compared to the one before. I hope you have better luck than I did that year :)

What an inspiring post! Blogs def have helped me gain a healthy perspective of my body weight. They have helped me realize I am not the only girl I America that loves to cook, bake, and think about healthy food variations often. They also have helped inspire me to continue running. Some days its hard to stay motivated but a post of someone’s run makes me remember why I love it.

What a great story! Keep up the great work and don’t ever stop setting goals for yourself, because you can achieve anything you set your mind to! It’s SO awesome that we now live in a world where we can just sign online to get the positive encouragement that we need, and may not get in the home or at work!

Chelsea I ran across your blog just yesterday and I’m SO glad I did. You seem like such a neat gal! I’m a big fitness guru (fitness instructor & fitness/nutrition coach) plus I heart clean eating :) Thanks for continuing to make this journey FUN and fresh, you rock!

There are certainly a variety of particulars like that to take into consideration. That could be a great level to convey up. I provide the thoughts above as general inspiration but clearly there are questions just like the one you carry up where the most important factor might be working in trustworthy good faith. I don?t know if greatest practices have emerged round issues like that, but I am certain that your job is clearly recognized as a fair game. Each boys and girls feel the impact of just a second’s pleasure, for the remainder of their lives.
