I rarely play by the rules. It might have something to do with my feeling the need to rebel when others give me guidelines. I like to think I’m just creative (sometimes), so I like to take ideas and spin off of them. Last week, Jenny gave me the Versatile Blogger Award! I’m so honored, but of course, I couldn’t just follow the rules.

So here’s the name of the game…
1. Thank the person who gave you this award (Thanks Jenny!)
2. Share 7 things about yourself.
3. Pass the award along to 15 bloggers who you have recently discovered and who you think are fantastic for whatever reason!
4. Contact the bloggers you’ve picked and let them know about the award.
Since I was out of town this weekend and filled up your readers with some wonderful guest posts, I figured I would change this up a little bit. Instead of sharing seven things about myself, I’m going to share seven things about my weekend. You ready? Good.
- My weekend started when on Thursday I realized I made my flight for one of my best friend’s wedding for the wrong day. I tried to check in on Southwest.com and realized my flight that I made left on Thursday, not Friday — like I was planning on. I had a major freak out session, but ultimately fixed it and flew out on Friday like I had originally planned.
- I didn’t tell my best friend about this mix up until I was safe and sound in St. Louis. She would have freaked out. It was really for my own good. No need to upset a bride.
- I surprisingly ate really good food this weekend. I’m always really nervous when I go out of town because I don’t know when I’ll get a good meal. That didn’t happen this weekend. On Saturday, I had Whole Foods salad bar, and the rehearsal dinner had gluten free pasta for me. On Sunday, the reception had a great vegetarian plate for me — a Portobello mushroom and a lot of other grilled veggies. I was more than pleased!
- The wedding was at the Missouri Botanical Gardens in St. Louis. It was absolutely amazing — the ceremony was in a rose garden under a gazebo and the reception was in an atrium. Elegant, classy, beautiful.
- I threw away most of my “healthy” habits this weekend — no shame. I only exercised once, I stayed up until all hours of the morning, and I drank three nights in a row. Needless to say, I’m not a college student anymore. I’m hurting today.
- The three college roommates were reunited again this weekend for the first time in one year. Last time we were all together? My wedding!
- My husband wears bedazzled sunglasses. Okay, only when he forgets his at home — but still, he wore them.
The next step? Passing the award on to fifteen other bloggers.
Question: What is one thing I should know about your weekend? OR Have you ever screwed up on your travel plans?

CUTE dress!!
Nothing too exciting this weekend, but once we arrived sunday for a week long vacay at a villa..later we found it was a saturday-to-saturday stay. Whoops.
Sweet shades! Looks like you had a great weekend!!
Aww you ladies look adorable! I always worry when I go out of town because I usuallllly end up eating crappy
at least you found good options!
AWww, I was your first pick? Really? I am beyond touched.
WARNING: slightly off topic……At my best friend’s wedding…. I was swing dancing and got dropped on my head. Like for real dropped on my head….. I didn’t know where I was, was vomiting, and couldn’t stay awake. Everyone thought I was just drunk and I was so out of it I couldn’t think, barely remember being dropped. Everyone thought my best friend had a bad maid of honor (me) who was a lush…… Sooooo bad!
LOVE getting to see college friends! Hope her wedding was all she ever dreamed!
Oh no! That’s so horrible! Did you go to the ER?
What a fun weekend! I bet the wedding at the botanical gardens was beautiful! My weekend was full of wedding activites as well. Gotta love bridezilla bridal showers!
uh oh! sorry you had to deal with a bridezilla!
Yayyy I’m glad you had a good time in St. Louis!!
I would have had a heart attack if I had mixed up my flight schedule!
I wanted to surprise my best friend for her 21st birthday by flying to Austin to see her. I schemed with her roommate for almost 2 months and then the day I flew out there my connecting flight was delayed 6 hours!! The roommate couldn’t pick me up like we had planned and I almost gave up and called my BFF to come pick me up from the airport but luckily her roommate was AMAZING and found someone to get me. The look on my friend’s face was definitely worth the stress!
This weekend I needed to go to the library but as soon as I entered we had the worst thunder storms. I stayed until they kicked me out and still got wet.
Hey Chelsey! I just found your blog last week and I’ve been reading through your archives. You’ve got some awesome recipes I want to try out soon! Thanks for inspiring me to finally start my healthy eating blog (eathealthybehappylivewell.wordpress.com).
Sounds like a crazy, but fun weekend you had! Mine was busy as well, but ended with my team of two 9 year olds and me beating my honey’s team in softball! He didn’t know I had it in me to play so great
I’m looking forward to more of your great recipes!
-Kristin
Hi Kristen - so glad you found me! I can’t wait to check out your blog!
Congrats to the other ladies and the award…and you too. Loved your facts!
whoa on the wrong airline date/flight booked…That would give me a serious heart attack but glad you got it solved!!
“I threw away most of my “healthy” habits this weekend — no shame. I only exercised once, I stayed up until all hours of the morning, and I drank three nights in a row.”-
Sounds fun to me
That dress was MADE FOR YOU!!! You seriously look absolutely amazing!!! I am glad that there was amazing food for YOU!!! That is stressful!!
I am SO happy you tagged me…wahoo, I can’t WAIT!! LOVE YOU GORGEOUS and glad you had such an amazing weekend!!
I, too, threw out most of my healthy habits this weekend. Three days straight of no exercise. I also attended a wedding and totally overindulged in lots of yummy food and drink
It was worth it, though!
you. look. gorgeous. love the dress. and glad you could sort out your plans, too! i think i’d have had a minor panic attack :X
Thank you! I did have a panic attack. I was FREAKING out.
What a fun weekend!!!
I absolutely love the color of your dress!! Wow. You look beautiful!!
I have done that with my travel plans, yes. ONly it was on the return flight, so my vacation ended up being an extra day, which was awesome because I was going to visit my boyfriend at the time. Work? What work?
Now that I could deal with!
I love your blog, though I hardly ever comment, but I must say that I love your dress! I go to school in St. Louis and am here for the summer as well, and was actually just talking to a friend about how the botanical garden here would be gorgeous for a wedding. And I was also just at Whole Foods on Saturday-I would’ve been so confused had I seen you here! In any case, I’m glad you enjoyed your weekend.
Haha, I’m pretty sure my husband has worn sunglasses similar to that before when forgetting his
You ladies look gorgeous! yey for having such a fun weekend!
I didn’t do anything special this weekend but it was glorious. My husband it out of town and being on my own schedule is very wonderful (not that I don’t love him to bits!
)
We definitely had a huge travel problem when heading out the British Virgin Islands for sailing over Christmas, it’s a long story but all I can say is never use Orbitz!
PS Jess from Bright Eyes Bushy Tales and I are putting together a Chicago Blogger meet up sometime in the next couple weeks. If your’e interested shoot me an email at [email protected]. And please pass on the word to any other Chicago area bloggers
I’m definitely interested! I’ll be there!
Love your dress! It sounds like you had so much fun
Eee! Thanks for the tag, hun! You just totally made my night. Love you! And you look absolutely gorgeous in that dress. Glad you had a good time this weekend and threw the healthy habits away for a while. There are just certain times that you gotta go wild and have some fun
I’m glad you sorted out the flight mix-up; nothing worse than thinking you planned correctly and didn’t! I woulda freaked out and probably cried a bit haha! You gotta let loose and fun sometimes, right? So I’m glad you had an awesome time - filled with good food. I attended a get together with my hubby’s family yesterday, which is nice since we haven’t seen his family in a long time!
I totally cried… a lot.
haha what an adventure! I love the dress you wore! That color is amazing on you.
My bf let me plan our summer vacation a couple of years ago. I chose to go to Saskatchewan (not a place most people go on holidays. Just a bunch of farms and cows…) So… we go there… for 2 weeks and we had NOTHING to do plus got bit by hundreds of flies and mosquitoes… and got chased by a moose. I wish I was kidding. That was the last time I was allowed to plan a summer vacation!
That is so funny!
We had a long weekend here in Australia (celebrating the Queen’s Birthday - gotta love that Commonwealth) and I was happy to be able to go for two long runs and a massive walk and sleep in. Like a mini vacation in the middle of the year!
I messed up on my travel plans last year when in Italy. I had arranged a shuttle to pick me up and take me to the airport for my return flight. Unfortunately I had given them my Australian phone number so when they called to confirm that I would be ready for pick up they got my Mum on the phone, who doesn’t speak Italian, who had no idea where I was or what was happening. Cue me sitting in the lobby watching the departure time grow closer with no driver in sight. Luckily we sorted it out in the end, but I did have a very exhilerating run through the Rome International terminal and was the last passenger on the plane!
Wow! That sounds very stressful!
Thankfully I have never screwedup my own travel plans too badly, but when I was staying in Paris, they was an Australian guy in my hostel sat with his bags etc looking absolutely distraught at breakfast. We got chatting and I asked him what was up. He said he had just checked out and was chatting to his parents on skype just to confirm when they’d meet him at the airport etc because he was flying home. His friends had already left to fly to their future destinations and he had literally no money left. He thought he was leaving that day - his parents had his flight details and the plane wasn’t booked for another 48hours. Epic fail!
ooo yay for getting there on the right flight and all the food choices!!! i love when things turn out better than u expected or anticipated! my weekend? full of relaxing!! DONE WITH SCHOOL!
Thanks for the award, girlie!
And I had a major “omg” moment- my friend attended a wedding at the botanical gardens, but I’m pretty sure it was the weekend before last… not last weekend… maybe… I’m gonna have to double check that. It could be a weird coincidence…
In February, I hd a conference at Disney World. I scheduled my hotel starting one day early, in case I wanted to get there a day early and go to a park. Well, I didn’t go down a day early and forgot I’d scheduled it that way. So when I got there, the hotel had given my room away FOR THE ENTIRE WEEK! I had to stay in a colleague’s room. Awkward.
Oh no! That’s very awkward!
Not that badly, but I’m sure I’ve done some doozies. I always forget stuff…. Like CONTACTS um yea whole weekend one pair of disposables… Yes I am stupid! My weekend was great concert (Foster the People), running, napping, pool party, yoga, hair done. Busy, but good. You look gorgeous by the way love the dress!
ooo that stinks! I have the kind where you wear them for 2 weeks, but I always make sure I bring an extra pair “just in case”!
Looks like a fun wedding! Love your dress!
I LOVE your dress! And you look gorgeous in it!
It sounds like such a fun weekend - I think it’s good for our health to have an “unhealthy” weekend every once in a while.
It always feels good to get back to exercise and wholesome foods afterwards though!
Sounds like so much fun! My weekend included a bachelorette party…my oh my was I feeling it on Sunday. You said it…we’re not in college anymore!!!
Beautiful Dress!! Seriously I’m trying to remember the weekend and it was such a blur. Baseball game/picnic, movies, BBQ, church. My son brought home a goldfish and tadpole from his kindergarten class so now we have 2 new family members. Hope u r having a lovely week!! xx
um……i screw up travel plans All.The.Time! As in….so many times that now whenever I book a flight I MAKE SOMEONE ELSE look it over before i hit the final “pay” or “submit” or whatever just to make sure that I got it right! haha!
You look adorable! I stayed up super late on Saturday night and I was still hurting yesterday! I just can’t hang anymore!
That dress color looks beautiful on you! I have three weddings this summer and I always need a couple of days to recover after because I pretend I can still drink like I am 19! hah! I’m sadly mistaken
Glad you made it to your destination even with the mix up!
Hahahaha I love the sunglasses. That’s awesome. Your weekend sounds way more exciting than mine was! Thanks for the tag, too- I’ve been needing some post inspiration lately and this is perfect!
AAH thanks for the tag!! That made me (lamely..) happy!!
And WOAH you seriously look sooo gorgeous! The dress matches your eyes and it’s AMAZING
Looks like you had an awesome weekend and I’m so glad they had good food for you!! That always stresses me out haha!
rules are so overrated.
I love the color of that dress! It reminds me of cinderella
though you are totally hotter.
I love your dress… looks amazing. Glad you had such a good time… I love weddings.
Such a cute dress!
I’ve never had my travel plans screwed up thank goodness because I think I would FREAK OUT! But glad everything worked out alright for you
Loved your dress at the wedding and the bride looked beautiful!! And glad ya didn’t worry about sticking to your healthy living routine - sometimes you just have to kick back and have fun
Though I’m totally with you on the not being in college anymore thing. I HURT after reunion weekends with my college friends!
Awwh thank you for the award!
That bride - STUNNING! Wow, I hope i look that good if I ever get married!!!
I don’t think I’ve screwed up my travel plans recently…but saying that, I’ve probably f’d up my USA travel plans now :-p
I’m the queen of screwing up my flight times, I’ve probably done it 5 times, and I have a meltdown every time…I just hate traveling.
Also, my husband wears my sunglasses when he forgets his too, I always have an extra pair in my car. He looks best in big Jackie O shades.
Thanks for passing that my way! This weekend was a wedding for me, too! Surprisingly, I was relatively tame in regards to frequenting the bar. Maybe I’m ill?
You look so pretty in those pictures!!
As for my weekend, I started a blog
yay for starting a blog!!!
i would have been a hot mess in that whole southwest flight mix-up!! way to go for holding it together and getting it all squared away AND not adding any more stress to your friend! you guys all look SO beautiful, but i think i like the tongue-sticking out pose a bit more.
awesome to hear that you had such a great time!!
my biggest travel debacle came when my i was traveling with my aunt and the flight we were on had gotten in so late we had only a few minutes to try to get to our connecting flight! we both had carry-ons and were seriously running down the terminal…i was sure we were going to miss it. we ended up making the plane but were the last two people on. apparently they had held the plane a couple minutes for us which upset a few passengers and a few actually boo’ed us as we got on. it was utterly humiliating.
Ah yay! Thanks for tagging me in this! Super fun!!!
I actually screwed up my travel plans for the Chicago Marathon in October! I thought I booked my flight (also through Southwest) from Thursday Oct 6- MONDAY Oct 10…but when I looked at the travel reservation a few days ago, I booked it Thursday though TUESDAY Oct 11. I’m not sure whether or not I’m going to change it… I mean, I get to spend another day in Chicago? How fun! Who needs school!
