wiaw part 5

I hate being late.

Absolutely without a doubt hate it. I have always been the early girl. The girl who shows up at least ten minutes early no matter where she is going.

I should have known my life was doomed when mine and the husband’s dating years were spent with me looking at the clock getting frustrated every single time he was five minutes late. Sometimes, it was ten minutes. Sometimes…::gasp:: fifteen. It was not pretty. It was the stem of many disagreements. Everyone told me to choose my battles — that it wasn’t worth it. But, I was bound and determined to make him see my point — that being late is not only irresponsible but inconsiderate as well.

Somehow, over the course of the last 320 days of my life, I have been inching towards the late side.

It’s not something I want to make a habit of. It has started slowly — five minutes late to lunch with mom, 5 minutes of mindless tasks at home when I should be walking out the door to work — I am quite ashamed of my actions to be honest with you. All this time I have been moaning and groaning about the husband, and somehow the ability to get caught up in his “lateness” in just 10.5 months.

So today, I am re-vowing my belief that together (one early person + one late person) we will equal a fully on time couple.

And I also vow that this is the last time I am late to arrive to the party for WIAW. I’m all about fashionably late entrances, but I don’t think that holds true with food.

Peas and Crayons

Breakfast — 7:00 AM

Recycled picture — same old, same old. I just can’t get enough of this cold oatmeal with blueberries. It’s far too delicious to pass up in the morning.

Snack — 10:00

Enter grapes and almonds here

Lunch — 12:30

Leftover Roasted Potato Salad with Chives
Greek Yogurt with blueberries and a crumbled PB&J Hummus cookie from
Heather

And plenty of H20 to go around

Snack — 4:00

Dinner — 6:45 pm

Yeah, sorry about that one. I was far too hungry to stop and photograph. Or I forgot. Either way, I made homemade marinara sauce (easiest thing ever), pasta, and sauteed eggplant, mushrooms, and broccoli. It was the best meal I had in… a day. But for real, it was delicious.

Snack — 8:30 pm

This is something you don’t get to see every day. This has been my combo for quite some time at night now if I don’t eat a protein muffin. Diced apple, raisins, granola doused with almond milk and eaten with a peanut butter spoon. Jealous, I know you are.

And if you’re wondering how I’ve eaten dinner and a snack when it’s only actually 6 p.m., that is because this food is actually from yesterday.

See? I was actually really early! I’ve got this.

Question: Are you a late or an early person? What is the best thing you’ve eaten today?

I’m definitely an early person…and my boyfriend is exactly like your husband! It makes me frustrated too, but again, not worth a fight haha. The best thing I’ve eaten today was probably my breakfast: oatmeal with sliced bananas, peanut butter, and cinnamon. Yum!

Colleen @ The Lunchbox Diaries June 15, 2011 at 6:12 pm

I am ALWAYS early! If I’m not 10 minutes early, I feel tragically late.

Reply

Katie June 15, 2011 at 6:15 pm

I love seeing you daily eats! That cold oatmeal sounds fantastic right now.

I hate being late, but it seems to be unavoidable for me sometimes. I always feel so rude and inconsiderate when I keep people waiting.

I also feel like you can pull out the “baby card” now.

I used to ALWAYS be early….but over the years I’ve somehow inched my way toward the late side, as well. Usually not by much (5-10 minutes…maybe 15 at most) and if it only happens occasionally, I’m totally okay with it.

I am an early person. Whether I am working or not.. I am up before 6:30!!

No matter how hard I try to leave ‘just enough’ time, I always end up being early. I usually have a book in my person because I’ve gotten so used to having to wait around!

I usually like to be on the early side, but there are some instances where I prefer being “fashionably late” ;)

I love the combination of cold oats and blueberries! Best thing I ate today was a Coconut Bliss dark chocolate ice cream bar. Swoooonage.

me too - fashionably late = okay in some instances - like i fyou’re going over to someone’s house, you don’t want to be the first one there!

I hear you on the early thing! I am the SAME way if not worse. My friends get so annoyed whenever we have to go somewhere together. I always tell them the event starts a half hour before it really does. Being late makes me jittery and very nervous! My dad’s the same way…we drive my mom nuts!!!

Reply

cleaneatingchelsey June 15, 2011 at 8:13 pm

Haha! I do that to the husband too! If we have to leave at 8:30, I tell him 8:15 and we’re out the door around 8:27. Perfection.

Reply

Jess June 15, 2011 at 6:48 pm

I’m pretty much an “on time” person, and I’m not known for being late! So I guess that’s a good sign, right?! ;)

That meal (dinner) looks SUPER good. So does dessert!!

It doesn’t matter how much more time I give myself, I am ALWAYS late. I know it’s a horrible terrible characteristic, and I make sure to at least be on time for things like interviews or weddings, but for the most part, I’m a latey-latester. (I understand if you don’t want to be my friend anymore.)

I used to be early. Then in my early 20s, i was always on time or a few mins early.

Then I had a baby and im lucky if im only 5 mins late. Sometimes, it’s a whole lot more and all other moms understand, but I used to hate people like me…til I become one :)

Reply

I’m usually just a little late. I can wake up plenty early enough to get to work on time, but I always end up late anyway. I don’t know how it happens.

That pasta looks delish, and such a great idea for a healthy “dessert”!

I could have written this post. I’m always early because it annoys me SO much when people **cough my dad and sister cough** are late, but lately I keep running late because I am A) sucked into the computer or B) I’m trying to gather up some meal to take to work, Rockies game, etc. Either way, I need to get it together.

I’m jealous of both your snack and your ability to plan ahead and take pictures of the previous day. I swear I’m doing that next Tuesday!

I like to be on time, but it doesn’t always happen. Unless it’s to a social gathering, then I like to be a little late. If I notice I’ll be the first car at the party I’ll drive around a little bit just so I’m not the first person.

I had eggs and homemade chips for dinner - I know it doesn’t sound like much but my favourite comfort food :) yummy!

I have my moments when I’m early to everything and then I go back to my old late habits! I’m notorious for believing that I can fit “one more thing” into my routine while getting ready and STILL get to work on time. The time clock rounds down to the hour if you are less than 8 minutes late…that being said, my coworkers know to never expect me to walk through the door until 7 minutes after! Lol

Love the nighttime snack! Of course anything eaten with a peanut butter spoon rates pretty high in my book!
