I have always been quite obsessed with retrieving the mail every day.

Don’t ask me why — it’s just one of my “things”. One of my “many things” if you were to ask the Husband.

A lovely package I received from Heather @ Kiss My Broccoli. We did a blog gift swap, and I ended up with the most awesome loot — including the greatest cookies on the face of the Earth. Thanks Heather!

When I was growing up, the mail would come in between 2-3 pm every single day. When I was in middle school, both my parents worked and didn’t get home until sometime around 4 every day. I got home around 3:15 from school each day if I didn’t have after school activities, which meant the mail was always there waiting for me. Well, except for that one time…

I talk about my siblings a lot, usually in the context of the crazy things they have done in the past — because let’s face it, talking about my own mistakes isn’t as fun.

A box of Raw Crunch Bars that I won from Lindsay @ Living Lindsay — with an exceptionally nice note attached. These bars are G.O.O.D! Thanks Lindsay!

There was this one time where my sister got the mail before me. You see, she knew my parents would be receiving a progress report from school — and believe me, progress reports were NOT a good thing to get as an eighth grader. They meant that well.. they meant you needed to try extra hard for the rest of the quarter so you wouldn’t be grounded for the rest of your life.

Needless to say, my older and most definitely not a good influence of a sister found those progress reports and put them in her backpack away from my parents’ eyes — or so she thought.

It just so happened that when my dad went through her bag to find something he needed to help her with, he just so happened to stumble upon those said progress reports.

My sister will be the first one to tell you it didn’t go over so well. Her room at the time was covered in over one thousand (no I am not exaggerating) Hanson posters (can you say obsessed?). Once my dad found the progress reports, he made her take those down immediately. All 1,000+ of them. He replaced the posters with something else.. something to remind his lovely daughter just how much she shouldn’t try to get away with things such as hiding mail from her parents.

He photocopied those progress reports and taped them up all over her room.

I wish I was making this up — actually, no — I take that back. I’m glad I’m not making this up. It’s my favorite “Kirstin” story of all time.

Clearly Fresh Bags which I put to the test for the last week. They worked well on produce in the fridge (think lettuce, carrots, tomatoes, etc.), but failed for me with my bananas at room temperature. While the bananas didn’t get “spotty”, I did find mold growing because of the moisture build up. While I still recommend them, I wouldn’t use them for your naners.

I just so happen to think of Kirstin and her progress reports most  days when I go to retrieve the mail — even if it is 13 years later.

Stories like that just don’t fade away.

Question: Did you ever hide anything from your parents when you were younger? Did they inevitably find out?

I think I probably did hide things, but I honestly can’t remember! Those raw crunch bars look amazing…I’ve never tried one!

Haha I could never hide anything! I was homeschooled, so progress reports weren’t really an issue ;) haha

I used to LOVE checking the mail though!!!

I love that story! I was a goody-two-shoes so I liked getting report cards when I was younger (lame, I know). I totally understand your feeling about the mail though. I love checking the mail every day in hopes that I will receive some exciting package. You never know what might show up.

I love getting the post too - even though there is rarely anything for me - I can’t really explain the attraction!
I have hidden things in the past yeah….I still do sometimes ;)

I’m an obsessive mail-checker too! Even if I know it’ll just be bills, I always hope there will be a fun package or note or whatnot.

And I was definitely a sneaky teenager. I hid an email account, Cosmo magazine, etc…I wasn’t doing anything bad, persay, just things my super-strict mom would never have gone for! It’s sad that even as an adult, I feel like I have to hide things she wouldn’t approve of. I’m grown, for goodness sakes!

I was a magazine hider as well! Moms don’t like their 17 year olds to read magazines about sex - haha I get it now.

haha! I love that story! Maybe I should do that with Adam if he ever hides his progress reports? Your Dad may have been onto something. It can’t be ‘out of sight, out of mind’ if it becomes your wallpaper! :)

Haha that story is great. I remember hiding speeding tickets from my parents when I was younger… but they’d always find out when it came time tore-register the cars and there’d be like 4 unpaid tickets on there. Oops. And when I was really young, I’d hide food that I didn’t wanna eat… like veggies and what not. I don’t remember that going over very well…

What a funny story! I can’t believe your dad put the progress reports all over her room! How funny.

I have a story that is knid of the opposite. My brother got hurt his freshman year of hs and missed a lot of time in the first marking period.. so he didn’t get a report card.. they took his name off the list.

Well.. the never put it back on the list. For four years. And the school would always accuse him of taking it - rather then fixing their mistakes. Thing is.. my brother NEVER got the mail. My mother was at home.. so she got it!

I used to give my barbies “make-overs” and cut their hair and hid the hair in the most random spots. My parents hated when I did it and always found out though. I still wont tell them about a bad grade in school unless the specifically ask! That progress report story is hilarious! what a great idea/memory :)

oh my gosh. We must be twins. I used to do that too and I had barbie hair under my bed - and I lied about it when my dad found it. Umm am I stupid? Can he not see my barbies without hair sitting right there?

When I was a teenager I did and hid a lot of things I shouldn’t have been doing, of course most things came out when I had to admit I was pregnant (I love my daughter)
My grades weren’t bad and I never had to hide anything about that, but my daughter has hidden her homework so she didn’t have to do it, her hair when she cut it, and most recently her report card. I think I may consider your dads wallpaper idea this next school year (I know I’m evil).
Your box of goodies look good, happy eating :)

In 9th grade I forged a note about having a dentist appointment so that I could skip class with some friends. I didn’t realize that the attendance secretary used to work with my mom. She called our house and my mom answered-I picked up the other phone in the house being the nosy thing I am and heard them talking about it. Let’s just say I was grounded for quite a while!

I hid my progress report in my closet in middle school and when I got out of school there was a note on my bike that read, “come straight home, luv mom”. I knew she had found it. Yikes, longest ride home EVER! haha That taught me to never hid things in the closet, try a place they never look, haha

I love your dad for doing that. Man, I hope I can be as bad-ass of a parent as he was haha (because that is just too funny…I wouldn’t forget it either). I was too much of an angel (and I’m honestly not saying that to toot my own horn). I wish I would have rebelled more. I probably won’t be saying that when I have kids…in case they try to do what I wished I had done!

that is such a funny story (and good idea of your Dad’s, too!).

when i was in middle school, i played the clarinet in band and we had practice cards. we were supposed to practice however many hours a week that was required and have parents sign them and take them into class so we could get the graded on it. well…i hated practicing and i started forging my mother’s signature on those cards. she didn’t find out until almost a month later when she realized she hadn’t been signing any of my practice cards lately. so i had to tell her…and then i had to tell my band teacher (who is the most adorable man and i felt like i was letting down my grandpa by doing so!). and THEN (this was my mom’s normal punishment) i had to write sentences about it…1000 of them in fact. saying “i will not forge mom’s signature on anything from now on” or something like that. ONE THOUSAND times. she still has them to this day :P

This story is classic!

I was REALLY lucky that I was never afraid to tell my parents things growing up (but then again, I was lucky enough not to ever get a progress report). I was an open book with them about everything, which helped me avoid tons of rules (no curfew because they always knew where I was and what I was doing) and probably tons of punishments, like hanson-knapping! :)

I am very intrigued by these baggies! I am getting kinda annoyed of my lettuce going bad so quickly. Might have to grab some!

LOL So something my family would do! I never knew kids hit that stuff in real life though. I think parents know everything, hiding it is futile. Those raw crunch bars look unbelievable so jealous! I would want to get the mail too if I had all of those goodies :)

Hahaha love that story!
My sister and I used to hide the orange from our Christmas stocking under the bed each year - NOT a pretty sight when my mum discovered multiple-year old oranges!
And this is gross: I once found a bird nest that had eggs in it, so being the clever 6yr old i was, i took the eggs, put them in my pocket and stashed them in a drawer….one ended up getting smash (hello, bird fetus!) but I was too scared to do anything, so I just left the mouldy, dead, smashed eggs in the drawer for about 2 weeks :p NICE!

HAHA! That is an awesome story. I can’t think of anything in particular, but i know that my parents found things I “hid” many times.. mostly because my brothers would tell. Jerks!
My favorite “kid” story, though, is actually about my dad. He would tell us every time we refused to eat something (my most hated foods were bologna and fish sticks) that when HE was a kid, he once refused to eat something and his mom said he couldn’t get up until he did. He thought he was sneaky by sitting there until bed time. When he woke up, she had put it on the table for his breakfast!

Your loot looks awesome, I love getting packages - it’s like a mini Christmas/ birthday but just because :) I never really hid things from my mom because a) she is basically physic and b) because I didn’t really do much that I needed to try and hide. I did shave off half my eye brow once and tried to hide that, but there is only so much you can do… live and learn. PS your dad rocks! and so do you :)

I’m so glad you liked the cookies! And I LOVE getting packages in the mail, especially multiple ones in a day…kinda makes me feel like it’s my birthday! Haha!

That story is priceless! How long did the progress reports stay taped to the wall?

I once forged my mom’s signature on this folder thing I had to bring home from school every week. If we brought it back on Monday signed by one of our parents, we got extra credit points annnnnnnnd since I’m such a nerd (I never really NEEDED the extra points but would totally freak out if I missed an opportunity to get them), I forged it right before turning it in. Wellllllllll, stupid me didn’t think about the fact that the parent’s signature sheet was something that was reused every week so the next week when I actually DID give it to my mom, she was like, “Heather, that’s not my signature!” and then proceeded to explain how forgery is illegal and all that mumbo jumbo…did I mention that I was in fourth grade?? Lol
