Often in life we rush. We rarely take the time out for ourselves to slow down and appreciate the beauty that is right in front of our faces each and every day.
This weekend, I slowed down. I went away for a little getaway with the Husband and a lot of his family for a few fun filled days in Michigan to enjoy the sun, the water, and most of all, each other’s company.
I had plans to blog while I was there. I brought my computer, my camera, and even my cord (success!). However, the second I arrived, I felt the need to unwind. To relax. To keep my computer turned off for the three days I was gone.
And it felt so good. I am rarely away from technology completely, but this weekend I found myself feeling refreshed. I took the time away to laugh so much my cheeks hurt and reconnect with my very busy husband.
Aside from the tubing, the boating, the playing with family, and the bonfires, my favorite part about Michigan has always and will always be the stillness in the morning.
Per usual, I was the first one up each and every morning on the trip — in fact, I don’t know if there’s ever been a Michigan trip was this hasn’t been the case. I snuck away on Saturday morning to take some time to walk around the cottage down to the dock to take in and appreciate the beautiful scenery before the boats and jet skis took over the calmness that was all around.
Breathing in the crisp morning air and feeling the morning dew on my hands never feels quite as good when others are awake and moving around. Just like at home, I appreciated this time in the morning — my alone time — to reflect on the past day and look forward to the day ahead.
As always with the Husband’s family, we left for home yesterday morning with strong memories of this weekend (as well as some images burned into our minds we hope to soon forget) which I’ll share along the way.
I would be lying if I told you I took more than a handful of pictures of my food (I took three), but this weekend, that wasn’t what mattered. What mattered was family, good times, and making life lasting stories with people we love.
I wish I could learn to slow down more, but the demands of life always seem to get in the way. There is always something to do, somewhere to be, or something to clean up.
So while this getaway was much needed and greatly enjoyed, you’ll have to excuse me while I get back to the old rigmarole of life.
And while as much as I liked unplugging, I am so happy to be back.
Question: When was the last time you “unplugged”?
