While I am not one to play the lotto or gamble in any way, I am pretty sure I hit the jackpot this afternoon.
You have to know something about me. In fact, I’m very certain I have mentioned it before — I love sweets. I used to be a dessert fiend. Give me the chocolate, ice cream, and any kind of sugar you can find — please and thank you.
However, having dietary restrictions can be very frustrating in the fact that you can’t indulge in store bought desserts quite too often for a number of reasons. The first one being many stores might not have quality gluten free products out there. The second one is they seriously will rob you of your lifetime savings. I’d rather have a home than live every day on the wild side by buying brownies from the local gluten free bakery by my house thankyouverymuch.
Today’s jackpot came in the form of Babycakes, the famous vegan and gluten free bakery in NYC. I wanted Gabriela to think I was coming to NYC to visit her, but it was really for the cupcakes.
Seriously, I’m joking… kind of… not really. Sorry Gabriela.
Babycakes has a vintage feel to their shop, and it was a lot smaller than I thought it would have been! I couldn’t imagine fitting all those bakers behind the counter.
Usually I am fairly cheap to shell out money for gluten free products, but… when in Rome New York, you’ve got to try it all.
Gabriela and I both went with different cupcakes so we could taste test different flavors. She had the vanilla brownie and I had the carrot agave.

Each one of the cupcakes had vegan cream cheese frosting.
I know… right?
Each cupcake was so different that I couldn’t compare the two if I tried. Gabriela’s chocolate cake was filled to the brim with mini chocolate chips and had such a decadent taste that you couldn’t help but “mmm” the entire time a bite was taken.
I would be lying if I told you she did not choose her cupcake flavor depending on which ones had the most frosting either. That girl loves the frosting.
I absolutely loved the carrot agave cupcake. The cupcake itself wasn’t too sweet (which I loved), and the cream cheese frosting added just the right amount of sweetness to the dessert.
We tried to savor each bite the best that we could.
But somehow very shortly after we began eating our cupcakes, they were gone.
It was a very sad moment for all involved parties.
Including the cupcakes, which were purely dominated if you can’t tell by our scraped cupcake liners.
The good thing about eating in the bakery is you always have the chance to go back for more.
Maybe that’s a bad thing, but I’m thinking not right now.
All I know is that someone is getting a surprise treat, and my oats are going to be positively smashing in the morning.
I really don’t know how Gabriela does it. I would literally have no self control if I lived so close to such a bakery. Every day would be a “cupcake kind of day”! She’s a stronger woman than me.
If you are ever in NYC, I obviously highly recommend the Babycakes experience.
Just feel free to mail me some when you’re done — my birthday is in ten days after all.
Question: This could quite possibly be the most life altering question I have ever had to ask before: Carrot Cake or Brownie?
