belated birthday giveaway

July 24, 2011

It’s true — I’m back!

Although I am still coping with the fact that Charlie was more excited to see the Husband upon our return, I’m going to suck it up and deal with that.

Although our flight home was delayed over 2 hours meaning we did not land in Chicago until 1:30 AM, meaning we got home at 3:00, meaning I went to bed at 4:00 AM (and woke up at 7:00), I’m going to suck it up and deal with that.

Because in the week that I have been gone, I have had an absolutely amazing vacation.

July 24, 2011 028

I’m still sorting through many pictures and experiences, trying to decide how to give you the full Punta Cana experience, so until then, I thought I would give you a belated gift on account of my birthday which was yesterday.

(Fun fact: Did you know my dad and I have the same birthday? It’s true! I talked about it last year on my birthday. I think yesterday was perhaps one of the only birthdays we ever didn’t spend together!)

I’m so nice, right?

If you remember, earlier this summer I mentioned I had tried the Clearly Fresh produce bags to review. I have been using them for the past few months (especially in the fridge with greens). One of my favorite ways to use them is for spinach, romaine, and kale. In fact, my kale lasted for 3 weeks in my Clearly Fresh bag earlier this month. I kept taking it out of the fridge expecting it to be old and gross, but it never got to that point. It was a small miracle in my book.

clearly_fresh_bags[1]

Clearly Fresh has now given me the opportunity to give not one, not two, but THREE readers a chance to try the bags out for themselves.

To enter this giveaway, all you have to do is leave me a comment about the best birthday you ever had.

For extra entries, you can do one (or all) of the following. Please leave each entry as a separate comment.

My best birthday would be my 8th birthday when my parents rented a hot tub for our backyard so I could have a “pool” party, BUT it ended up snowing! haha. I still remember it being one of the most fun though!

I’ve recently taken a fondness to drinking ice water with mint in it, and I’ve had to throw away the mint because it’s rotted before I can finish it. This might be a good thing to try.

So… birthday. Hmm. To celebrate my 27th birthday, 4 new friends and I climbed up onto the roof of a building on Camp Fallujah in Al Anbar Province, Iraq, and smoked some cuban cigars. It was a nice, introspective evening.

Happy Birthday Chelsey!!!! :) (and happy birthday to your dad too <3 that's sweet that you two share that!)
My best birthday: probably my 19th, the first one while I was in college. No huge gifts, but: my sister's birthday is the day after mine and people in my hometown would always tell me on my birthday, "be sure to tell Amy happy birthday, it's her birthday tomorrow, right?" completely missing out that today was mine… On my 19th there was never a mention of my sisters birthday, just mine. It was bliss!

I tweeted about the giveaway and i could really use some of those bags! I am part of a CSA, so I get all my fresh organic fruits & veggies straight from the farmer every week, but since I’m only one small person and I can’t eat 4 bunches of kale in 6 days on my own, my veggies go bad really fast! I wish I had some way of preserving them!

Ooooh, narrowing down the birthdays to THE BEST is hard-but the one jumping out was my 21st birthday! I was living in California and none of my childhood friends from Hawai’i would be celebrating this debacle with me and while I missed Hawai’i, mani/pedi’s w/Mom and good friend was fun. In my family we always go out to dinner, and they were raving about this teppanyaki restaurant, so I was pretty excited-those places always remind me of home:) Anyway, we get to the restaurant and as we’re walking to get seated I discover 20+ of my friends shouting “SURPRISE!!” -and surprised I was!! Not only was this surprise birthday party a complete success, it was like a theatrical production! LOL!! My friends smuggled in my FAVORITE beer (Hinano) which was only the beginning of sweet and over-the-top-gifts!! Awesome memories:)

One of my best birthdays was when my husband took me to go see Wicked. I’d been wanting to see it for so long. When we got to the theater I was to tired, however, and was worried I wouldn’t be able to stay awake for the show. Boy was I wrong - the show was so amazing I was wide awake for the whole thing because I didn’t want it to end!

I think my best birthday was my 21st, my family and friends did so much to make it extra special. Days like that remind me how lucky I am!

I’m not a big birthday person, but I do remember having an elaborate scavenger hunt that was staged throughout my neighborhood at my 12th birthday party. That was a blast!

My birthday this year actually! I became 15, have gotten all A’s in school, I had recovered from my ED (on the outside, but still had some thoughts coming back which were often), my grandparents were here and we went to church and it was mother’s day, had a lunch/dinner at my favorite very vegan friendly restaurant in town and tried Zevia for the first time and made the most delicious (sneakily healthy that you could eat it for dinner) cookie cake i’ve eaten in my entire life and this time it was vegan!

The best birthday I had was the first one I spent with my honey. He bought me cowboy boots and we went on a breathtaking hike! We still have pictures up in our house from that hike!

The best birthday I had was last year on my 21st. I went to my cousin’s wedding, and we got to celebrate both events together - with all my family and an open bar!

I’d say my best birthday was age 20. I had a get together at my house with my parents and some friends the day before (a Saturday night) and then visited my friend at his school the next day (my actual bday) for a pre-St. Patty’s day celebration and to go to the parade in NYC together the next day. It was pure debauchery =)

My best birthday was when my hubby (then - boyfriend) made me a candlelight dinner in his backyard. Sounds corny - but it was the sweetest thing!

Actually, my last one, in May I turned 31. For some reason I felt really loved and thought about, my friends and family went above and beyond this year, and I caught myself getting a bit teary over what wonderful people I have in my life.

My best birthday was my 28th, the day my fiance (now husband) and I finally go to live together, after living 4000+ miles apart for 2.5 years! It wasn’t a typical birthday as I was traveling and moving, but it was my favorite one! :)

Happy belated birthday! That holiday looks amazing, glad you had a good time :-)
My best birthday memory was in 2006, when I was on a road trip holiday in America - it started with sunrise over the Grand Canyon, then ended with a (ever-so-slightly drunk) night in a beautiful hotel in Phoenix… happy days!
