1. The first FULL week of school can be a little bit rough. Not that I don’t absolutely adore my students (I do), but waking up at 4:15 every morning and being with children all day will certainly take a toll. I need a nap, a margarita, and someone to clean my house this weekend. Stat.
2. I woke up this morning (at 5:15 – rest day YAY!) with this unbelievably excruciating pain on the top of my left shoulder. Apparently I have been fighting off ninjas in my sleep because I have a knot the size of Hurricane Irene in it. Some advice: rolling on a tennis ball for twenty minutes will induce a horrible pain throughout your entire body. Re-runs of Secret Life will not help the pain.
3. I am finally going to see The Help tonight with my mom and (not really but she should be) aunt. I have been waiting my entire life (or the last three weeks) for this moment.
4. I started reading A Stolen Life by Jaycee Duggard last night. For those of you who asked – it’s graphic. and disturbing. But you must absolutely read it.
5. Not to poke fun or anything, but this could quite possibly be the funniest thing I’ve seen all day. And if you don’t get it, just think for a few seconds. It’ll come. Sorry Virginia, but Cali eats 5.9 for breakfast. (PS – I love all of you in VA still)

6. The best way to get your husband to let you go get your nails done is to tell him you are going to bring your sister for her birthday present. Apparently it works every year.
7. I finally made some more granola – trail mix granola to be exact. I went to bed with a stomachache last night. It was worth it.
8. The Starbuck’s addiction has been tamed (for now). I made a pot of extra strong coffee and stuck it in the fridge the other day. It’s just not the same. I’m accepting Starbuck’s donations via my PayPal account as of now.

RE: #8. My iced coffee addition is also OOC. Have you tried an iced coffee maker? Wondering what others think of them. I got a Bodum french press that’s specifically made for iced coffee (which really only means that it has an extra top that doesn’t have the “plunger”) — I wasn’t a fan of the coffee from it. I also got the Toddy T2N Cold Brew System — but it’s freaking huge. I have no idea how to put it all in my fridge… It’s still sitting in the box in my office.
Nope just a plain old coffee maker.
I KNEW I wasn’t the only dingbat still watching Secret Life. (Sorry for calling you a dingbat, but seriously, that show? Why do we watch? My husband mocks me relentlessly if I happen to watch it while he is home.)
I want to stop because it’s so bad but I can’t!!!
I know! Can’t look away. And I secretly want Amy & Ricky to get married and live happily ever after while simultaneously hating how unrealistic the show is.
Omg me too! I love/hate that show..that and pretty little liars! ; )
The hubs always makes fun of me!!
I gotta say, that earthquake scared the pants off me. All I know is I’m realllyyy glad I don’t live in San Fran!!
I am with you on the Starbucks addiction, and I managed to0 keep it to one Venti this week, but I also buy VIA’s for home and for a instant coffee I think they are really good!
I went on Wednesday and I ordered a grande.. and they gave me a venti. Not complaining!
That’s awesome! Just as good as when I sometimes get the complimentary coupon for a tall drink but they always let me get whatever size - hello Veniti!
Love that picture! For all of us in VA, that’s HUGE! And btw, that picture isn’t even from this week!
But it was a good laugh after our mini earthquake!
OMG That picture is too funny!!! I am dying!!! So accurate though with the lawn chair!!
I just bought The Help today. I can’t wait to read it and then see the movie!!
Have fun tonight!
I am already dreading my first full week… This half week was a toughie, in fact I just woke up from a 20 minute nap which needed to last an hour or so!!!
Relax! Enjoy your weekend!
TGIF! I nanny during the week, just one two year old, But seriously all day can be exhausting. I can’t imagine having a whole classroom!
ps. drinking my iced sbucks while reading this
Oh I bet a 2 year old is more exhausting!
The earthquake pic is pretty funny! My honey didn’t have school the next day because of the damage to other schools in his county. He said it sounded like a gigantic helicopter was coming to land on the school! He thought God was coming!!! I on the other hand, felt or heard nothing where I was. It sure was a crazy thing!
Happy Friday to you!
Have an awesome time at The Help, girl! It wasn’t as good as the book, but it was still awesome. And I’ve really wanted to read A Stolen Life, but I promised myself I wouldn’t buy any new books until after I moved. Stop tempting me!
Break the Starbucks addiction with cold brewed coffee concentrate: French press. One and a half cups coarsely ground coffee. Three cups of water. Let it sit overnight (at least 12 hrs). Push the plunger down, pour into a mason jar (1 pint sized). Store in the fridge for about a week. Pour 1/4 to 1/3 c in a 16 oz travel mug/cup filled with ice. Add water and/or milk to the top. Better than Starbucks (or at least WAY closer than sticking your hot brewed coffee in the fridge). It lasts in the fridge for about a week. And saves you a TON of money.
I start school next week. Kids come the Wednesday after Labor Day. I agree though, the first full week is a killer.
#8 not the same b/c they are NOT SHY about sweetening it and/or using those syrups if you get like a vanilla iced coffee. I mean, it’s never going to be exact but every time i DONT drink theirs, which is 99.9% of the time and save myself 3 or 4 bucks every day…or more…b/c I have extra, I am happy and can deal with the less than perfect replication..but yeah i hear ya
and that book. read Jenna’s/ELR review of it and it sounds sooooo disturbing! Based on my past and things that I have survived, there is just no way I could read that. I would be haunted terribly!
I could TOTALLY see your viewpoint on not reading that book. There are some people out there that definitely should NOT read it!
I also saw that picture with the title “we will rebuild”. Hysterical!
Okay I am an idiot and it literally took me like 4 hours to understand the picture. I am so dumb.
Um, I got an iced coffee from Starbucks today at work and literally my stomach has been HATING me ever since. It sucks because it was so good, but I have been in miserable pain since drinking it - ugh!
I have to wait at least an hour after eating something CARB heavy before I can drink coffee. Then I’m good!
Soooo many things to respond to! The Help was great! And I’ll have to read Jaycee Duggard’s book, I read Room and really liked it, so a real-life version could be interesting. Took me about 5 min to understand the picture, but laughed out loud once I got it. Also, can’t imagine getting up at 4:15 every morning. I’m a big morning person, but that’s pretty early. Plus I require 8 hours of sleep… so I’d be in bed by 8:15.
Haha…Love this list! I agree with needing a drink and some relaxation after working with kids all week. I’m not a teacher, but I do work with kids on a daily basis. Love them, but they also drive me crazy sometimes!
And girl, I’m totally addicted to iced coffee, but you’re right-it’s just not the same when you make it yourself.
Have a great weekend!
I want to read the book before I go see the movie! Now I just need to find time to read a book…not enough hours in the day!
Gotta love ABC Family shows
. I hope you enjoy The Help! I LOVED it. I was actually surprised at how good the movie was!
I’m so happy I’m not the only adult that watches Secret Life! I’ve been sucked into that show since day 1, even though I LOL at the ridiculousness of the show EVERY week!
I saw the help a couple of days ago with my mom and it was seriously one of the best movies ever. I love learning about that time period to begin with, but this movie was just great! It made us laugh, cry, angry, and jump for joy
You will love it!
Oh I want to see The Help so badly! It’s one of my favorite books, and I have such a girl crush on Emma Stone. I hope it’s wonderful! PS - A girl from college had that picture of the fallen plastic chair on her facebook - I thought she was serious. I didn’t know whether to laugh or call her a silly bitch.
Even after a year of reading your blog, I STILL don’t understand how on earth you get up so early!
You’re such a champ!
As a Virginian, I have to laugh at #5. I was within 70 miles of the epicenter and was doing my homework and nothing happened. I have a friend 30 miles from who said a few books fell off and that was it. Glad you had a great first week back! It’s fun to work with kids, but by the end of the week you’re ready for the weekend.
That nail/sister/birthday idea is so insanely genius. I almost can’t wait until my SIL’s birthday in December. I kind of feel like bookmarking this post JUST so I don’t forget that.
Also, my rest days were always on Friday, too…and that extra 30 minutes was just pure heaven every week. And that picture is the funniest thing ever…it took me a full minute to realize what was going on - but when I did, I nearly spit on my computer I laughed so hard.
Haha the iced coffee addiction, I know many with that! I actually am not a fan of coffee, but alot of my family and friends lose their paychecks in Starbucks haha
WOW 4:15 I thought my 4:45 was rough…you have spurred me into thinking maybe I need to try this a few days a week…not for running gym isn’t convenient enough for that. I highly recommend a french press for home brewing it won’t chilled it but it is the best hot brewed coffee that’s not from Starbucks
Wow, I’m a little slow. I had to read the comments to understand the picture but, now that I do, it’s pretty darn funny! I’m an east coaster that, go figure, was on a flight to Cali when the earthquake hit so I didn’t get to experience it. My husband said however, he couldn’t feel a thing. We get terrorist attacks Cali gets earthquakes…(probably a bad joke right there but oh, well)
The Help was so good! I have thoughts, but I don’t want to bias you - you’ll have to let us know what you think.
My book club is reading Jaycee Duggard’s book. I am behind and haven’t started yet.
Glad to know it is interesting…maybe that will motivate me to start!
