WIAW… err, tuesday.

September 7, 2011

The other day my family and I were talking about my blog at our barbecue we hosted for the Husband’s birthday. We talked about all things tweeting (to which the bestie confessed she had to take me off her phone tweets because I’m a little too “much” — I agree. I’m sorry.), and my mom brought up What I Ate Wednesday. She was a little bit concerned because I wasn’t telling the whole truth about the concept.

Her exact words: “You do know you post your What I ate Wednesday post in the morning, right?”

Yes, Mother — I absolutely do know that is when I post it.

Which then led her to her next point. "Then you should call it What I ate Tuesday, because it is NOT what you ate Wednesday.”

Apparently someone is missing the concept.

But just to make my dear mother happy, I present to you What I Ate Tuesday… on Wednesday.

Peas and Crayons

Breakfast — 5:50 AM

This is what my mornings are now amounting to: dark and dreary. In the bowl:

  • 1 serving voluminous overnight oats, heated up in the microwave because it was 49 degrees outside (really!?)
  • cinnamon
  • homemade coconut flakes
  • blueberries
  • Trader Joe’s Crunchy Flax Peanut Butter

Snack — 9:30 AM

An unpictured Michigan peach — it was good.

Lunch — 11:30 AM

You’ll be happy to know I actually lugged around my Rebel today in my big teacher bag just so I could take a picture of the food I ate today. Then, I failed miserably.

What was it?

  • romaine salad with Basha Hummus (from Costco)
  • leftover Trader Joe’s Traditional Refried Beans
  • Vanilla Chobani (already thrown away)

Snack — 4:00 PM

The infamous raisins and almonds in a bag. This happens just about every day on the way home from school.

Dinner — 6:15 PM

A new crockpot creation — Chickpea and Tomato Curry Stew. I bet you want that recipe, don’t you?

Yeah, you’ll have to wait on that one. Sorry I’m not sorry. A girl’s gotta keep you coming back for more.

And I may have washed that all down with a few squares of dark chocolate.

Snack — 8:30 PM

TLTP — Too Lazy To Picture

Question: What is the best thing you ate all day?

the best thing i ate yesterday (since I didn’t make breakfast yet this morning) was dinner- scrambled eggs, whole grain toast, and morningstar “fake bacon” + hot sauce. I love having breakfasts for dinner.

I made dinner for my family, but made overnight oats for me for dinner. mmmmmm.

A Michigan peach? I’m from MI and I didn’t even know we grew peaches! Best thing I ate yesterday was my 7 veggie quinoa soup - YUM! Love that soup…
My mom said the same thing to me….too funny!

Michigan peaches are THE BEST! Well, other than Georgia peaches.

The best thing I ate yesterday? Definitely the huge slab of naan I had for breakfast. Pillowy breads are the best!

Gina @ Running to the Kitchen September 7, 2011 at 8:38 am

Like your mom, before I started doing WIAW posts, I thought the same thing! Best thing I ate yesterday was french toast + caramelized bananas for breakfast. My meals got progressively worse throughout the day since I was traveling for work.

As soon as I saw your curry soup I was ready to bookmark a recipe. It looks great and I’ve been craving something like that for a while now. Guess I’ll have to wait and come back then!

I love the picture of your empty containers! That’s what my blog would look like if I posted my eats every day. And your mom’s comment about dishonesty made me laugh, because I feel like a semi-liar every time I title my post What I Ate Wednesday. Ha!

Reply

Tessa @ Amazing Asset September 7, 2011 at 9:41 am

Hmm you are right, I do want that recipe! I guess I will just have to wait :)
And seriously, what the heck is the weather thinking with these cool temps already?!
Best thing I ate today was a Honey Crisp apple with almond butter, I am so glad they are back in season!

I always intend to post WIAW, but I forget to take a picture of my lunch until it is demolished. It literally happens every. single. week. Gah! I have got to get better at this!

Kaitlyn@TheTieDyeFiles September 7, 2011 at 9:49 am

You’re right, I do want the recipe!! And I’m pretty sure we have all the same varieties of tupperware. Though I have two drawers filled with every type imaginable, so I’m not surprised.

49 degrees?? I was bummed about 60. It’s starting to get too dark to photography my dinner! I think I may look into some artificial lighting. New England winters are long, dark and dreary. I won’t be able to stand looking at awful pictures that long!

My friends were confused too when they saw WIAW and the post would come out before I had finished all my meals! :) This Wednesday, I mean TUESDAY I ate teriyaki chicken with brown rice and corn on the cob. YUM!

That stew looks amazing! Especially because I’m sick (ugh), and I’m looking forward to cooler temps! Best thing (and only thing) I’ve eaten so far today was a big bowl of oats. Almost time for mid-morning/pre-work snack. :)

You are such a healthy eater! I am also very impressed by your ability to blog AND teach full-time. My sister is a 1st grade teacher and I know how much work that is!

Random question: do you find it easier or harder (or the same) to eat healthfully in the summer than during school season? I am unemployed and I just find it so hard to eat well without a set schedule and with just sitting at home all the time.

Reply

cleaneatingchelsey September 7, 2011 at 12:01 pm

I find it easier during the school year actually. I have my food I bring with me for the day and that’s it!

Yes! I want that recipe!! I promise I’ll keep coming back if you post it! ;)

My favorite thing I ate today was my breakfast omelet. I’ve been traveling a lot, so my fridge has been bare. Finally, last night I went to the grocery. Eggs, mushrooms and goat cheese, oh my! It was heavenly.

That chickpea dish looks fab! Best thing I ate today is a toss-up between a pb & tofu sandwich and a taco burger with avocado + Greek yogurt! Hmm breakfast wasn’t too bad either (faux-vernight oats)!

I think I need to get on this WIAW bandwagon…it looks like so much fun. The best thing I ate all day was leftover spaghetti squash with Greek yogurt and a little brown sugar mixed into it. A weird concoction? Yes. Amazing though? YES!

Baggies of almonds and raisins were one of my favorite snacks when I was going to school. I don’t know what it is, but the combination of those flavors is absolutely divine. Best thing I ate all day was… everything lol. After camping over the weekend, all of my favorite homecooked meals taste extra good.

I’m pretty sure the majority of WIAW-ers post their Tuesday meals. Every time I’m with someone on Tuesday and say “I need to take a picture for WIAWednesday,” they ask me if I know it’s only Tuesday.
