vega breakfast challenge

September 30, 2011

A few weeks ago, I was contacted by Vega to participate in their Vega Breakfast Challenge.

As part of the program, I was asked to compare my current breakfast to one single serving (69 grams) of Vega Whole Foods Health Optimizer. I received four sample packets of the WFHO: two berry, one vanilla chair, and one original.

I have used Vega Whole Foods in the past, putting the supplement into my oatmeal or a smoothie — and I have always been pleasantly surprised by the taste when mixed into a recipe.

The main challenge of completing the task of comparing my breakfast to the Vega Breakfast was that the calculator was very difficult to use! It was hard to enter in the quantity of the item I really use and it wasn’t completely accurate.

The easiest thing I thought of doing was using a difficult calculator to enter my normal breakfast into.

In Corner 2: Vega WFHO in Vanilla Chai Flavor

The Vega Whole Food Health Optimizer has pretty solid statistics, including:

  • 100% of your daily vitamins and minerals
  • 60% daily intake of fiber
  • gluten and soy free
  • plant based

So, how did they measure up?

My breakfast’s stats:

And the Vega WFHO stats:

I do have to admit that the WFHO has much more of the daily nutrients than my normal every day breakfast. While I don’t see myself replacing my entire breakfast with the WFHO anytime soon, I can see myself continuing to use it as an add-in to my cereal or oatmeal.

The only downfall of this challenge was trying to use the calculator, but overall it was pretty fun to take a look at my macronutrients, which I don’t do on a normal basis!

Question: Try it out! How would your breakfast stack up?

Disclaimer: Vega sent me these samples in exchange for writing an honest article about their product and challenge. All views and opinions are 100% my own.

I love that you are using it as an add-in rather than a replacement -> that’s the way to do it! I either have oatmeal pancakes or overnight oatmeal (the yogurt kind) for breakfast so I think it provides a good amount of nutrients..and taste -> WIN!

I think my breakfast is pretty good :) . And I honestly don’t want to get sucked into looking at macronutrients all the time. I’ve done that and it can make me obsessive…no thank you!

I don’t think I could ever be satisfied by just a smoothie mix for breakfast either. But it has super impressive omega 3, iron and calcium stats!

I tried single servings on the chocolate and chai flavors last month and really enjoyed them! I definitely expected them to taste a bit more ‘green’. I think the chai flavor would be great mixed in with some sort of pumpkin dish!

I’ve been debating whether or not to add a bit of Vega to my breakfasts - but I have no idea which flavor - do you have a favorite / recommendation?

i tried the vega vanilla chai flavor this weekend and loved it! not overly sweet like many chai-flavored items, and i love the protein content to help keep me full.

That looks so good!! Where would you buy those packets? Is it only online, or can you get it through a store like Whole Foods?
