Last night, my parents invited everyone over for a family favorite – mom’s vegetarian chili.
Okay, that’s a lie – I invited everyone over to my parents’ house for chili. I was having a crazy craving for Mom’s chili earlier this week so I asked her if we could all come over for dinner yesterday. Nothing like a home cooked meal from Mom.
But to be perfectly honest, the real reason we all wanted to get together was because of this princess right here.
Isn’t the headband her Auntie CEC gave her incredibly adorable? And don’t you just love the ring around her mouth from her pacifier? Too cute.
It took a while, but I finally got a turn to hold her. With Nana and Grandpa around, it’s difficult to steal in a minute. Throw my aunt into the mix and we are all constantly calling who gets the baby next.
Before dinner, I was able to take a few pictures of my sister and brother in law with the baby. Let me tell you, taking pictures of people is much more difficult than photographing food. Food doesn’t move. People do. Obviously. And if your food moves, I’m scared.
This is my favorite!
After I took the next one, my sister exclaimed, that was really awkward looking back. To which I replied, “it looks kind of awkward too.”
Aubrey was getting sleepy near the end of it.
Mid-yawning babies are probably the cutest thing on the planet.
Oh, and the chili was good too.
Question: What is the best home cooked meal your mom makes for you?

Aww! Such an adorable baby! I love the flower headband
My favorite homecooked meal is my my moms pancakes. They are soo good!
She is SUCH a doll!!! And dare I say, she’s grown a TON since your sister had her. I mean, she looks BIG. I can’t believe she was just born like what, last week?! They grow.so.fast.
Lovely chili but you’re right, Aubrey is the showstopper here!
She is 2 and a half weeks - gosh so cute.
OMG that last picture of the baby yawning makes me melt- SO cute! I love my mom’s version of a vegan lentil loaf- she nails it every time! I know this sounds cheesy but I love all my mom’s cooking (insert angel emoticon)!
Omg she is precious! I love the headband!!! And her skirt!
It must be a mom thing- my mom’s chili rocks and I can’t get enough of it!! Plus, I asked for the recipe when I moved away from home and and she replied ‘there is no recipe, I just dump stuff in…’ Oh, moms!
Auntie Chelsey is awesome! That headband is soooooo cute! (the ring from the pacifier just adds to the cuteness!) Your sister’s newest addition to the family is a keeper!
The picture of Aubrey and Aunt Chelsey is PERFECT!
haha that’s what my mom says too!!!
SHE IS PERFECT!! She looks like a baby doll!
Wow! She is so beautiful! Good job on the pictures and the headband, Aunt!

I love love my mom’s turkey pot pie! That headband is so cute
Oh my goodness! She is PRECIOUS. Love this post…so heartwarming.
My mom makes a KILLER homemade tomato sauce! I love putting it on top of garlic-infused spaghetti squash.
oh yum - homemade tomato sauce is AWESOME.
My mom stopped cooking a few years ago when my parents downsized, but now my dad is the chef and she’s the baker!
My dad is pretty much a grillmaster, so a dinner of grilled vegetables, salmon, and potatoes is perfect
Oh my goodness, she’s adorable!!! And I love that headband you bought for her.
My mom makes an amazing minestrone soup. I always ask her to make it every time I visit home!
Ohhhhh your niece is too cute for words. I want to scoop her up!
SOOOOOOO cute!!! These pictures just reminded me of why I’m secretly hoping our baby is a girl
I’ll keep my fingers crossed for yoU!!
Aww, she’s adorable! Definitely a good reason for a get together
My favorite thing my mom makes is a mushroom, sausage risotto that is so delicious & warming in the middle of winter.
Ha! I invite myself over to my mom’s house on a weekly basis. She doesn’t seem to mind, but I’m sure that there’s a more “polite” way to do it. We kinda just show up and scrounge.
haha - I usually pilfer through the cabinets!
Taco Night! Loved when we all gathered around and built our custom tacos.
those pictures are so cute! My mom makes the best vegetarian curry!
It was a chili weekend around here for sure. I have to say, chili is one of those things my mom also does well- a staple in our house on many of the winter weekends…
She is sooo cute! And i do love the headband you got her…babies in headbands are the best thing ever! That chili looks really tasty too, I love my moms chili!
I’m so excited to get chili this week!!!!
And I am so amazed at how much harder it is to take pics of people over food. It really is! In fact, I had my uncle take our wedding pics. he is a food photographer and I thought “no biggie - you can do wedding photos. Food = same as people, right?”
Ummm…no. My biggest wedding regret is that we didn’t hire a wedding photographer. Our photos aren’t BAD, but let’s just say he certainly doesn’t have an eye for people and creative shots like weddings.
hahaha I love your honesty!
Such a gorgeous baby!
oh my gosh. I adore that yawning picture.
and for some reason, my favorite meals by mom are the comfort food ones. there’s just something about a mommy-cooked meal that screams comfort.
I’m a sucker for her chicken and dumplings.
She is so precious
Love those little yawns.
Omg she couldn’t get any cuter! I always love holding babies too. When there’s a baby in the room, I noticed that the mother loves letting other people hold the baby. Gives them a chance to rest their arms!
Um, that mother is not my sister.
Awww how precious!!!!
She is so adorable! I remember when my first niece was born, all my siblings would fight to hold her. When I knew she’d be over a certain day, first thing that morning I’d tell my sister, “I call to hold Marilena first today!” lol!
My sister will deliver her baby by this Wednesday and I cannot wait to hold a newborn again!
I love my mom’s tomato sauce! It’s simply amazing
haha - I do that too! We went out for dinner a week ago and I was like “I call her first!!”
Awww she is so precious!!! I love her little outfit
. I love my mom’s lasagna!
She is too adorable! (as is the headband). This makes me homesick! My favorite meal my mom makes is her corned beef with cabbage carrots and potatos. I think it’s my favorite because she only makes it for St. Patrick’s day so it’s extra special! Haven’t been home for it for 5 years… I should convince her it’s a Katie is home meal now. Forget St. Patrick’s Day.
Do it!!
Oh my god! Your niece is so adorable! I just want to hug her!!! I love my Mom’s Potato Soup and mushroom casserole! But I would adore some of that veggie chili right now it looks fabulous!
I’ll hug her for you!
Adorable! Thanks for sharing.
My mom used to make really good lasagna, bbq pulled pork, and meatloaf. Soooo good! Luckily I can recreate her recipes.
OMG Chelsea she is so beautiful!!! I love these pics. Great photographer.
She is tooooooo cute! I want one now…so bad!
She is adorable!! You still got great pics. I’m not really sure what the best homecooked meal my mom makes.. Is that bad? haha
Aw, they look like such a happy family!
Those pics are too cute!!!
Also….do you think we could have that recipe!?!? It looks so yummy!!!

My mom makes a killer eggplant parm!!
What a cutie!!! One of my siblings better have kids.
Mom doesn’t really know how to do vegan food, but I cook for her enough that it works out. made her promise to try tofu!
SHE IS THE CUTEST LITTLE THING IN THE WHOLE WORLD!! You look beautiful Chels!! Okay, so do we get the recipe for that chili?
If you go to my recipe page, there is a recipe for “almost mom’s chili” - it’s almost identical!
Oh my goodness. She is absolutely precious!
I’ve been reading your blog for a while now and finally started one of my own. So, I decided it’s about time I actually begin commenting on all of your fabulous posts!
