Last night, my parents invited everyone over for a family favorite – mom’s vegetarian chili.

October 2, 2011 231

Okay, that’s a lie – I invited everyone over to my parents’ house for chili. I was having a crazy craving for Mom’s chili earlier this week so I asked her if we could all come over for dinner yesterday. Nothing like a home cooked meal from Mom.

But to be perfectly honest, the real reason we all wanted to get together was because of this princess right here.

Isn’t the headband her Auntie CEC gave her incredibly adorable? And don’t you just love the ring around her mouth from her pacifier? Too cute.

October 2, 2011 191

It took a while, but I finally got a turn to hold her. With Nana and Grandpa around, it’s difficult to steal in a minute. Throw my aunt into the mix and we are all constantly calling who gets the baby next.

Before dinner, I was able to take a few pictures of my sister and brother in law with the baby. Let me tell you, taking pictures of people is much more difficult than photographing food. Food doesn’t move. People do. Obviously. And if your food moves, I’m scared.

This is my favorite!

After I took the next one, my sister exclaimed, that was really awkward looking back. To which I replied, “it looks kind of awkward too.”

Aubrey was getting sleepy near the end of it.

Mid-yawning babies are probably the cutest thing on the planet.

October 2, 2011 223
Oh, and the chili was good too.

Question: What is the best home cooked meal your mom makes for you?

She is SUCH a doll!!! And dare I say, she’s grown a TON since your sister had her. I mean, she looks BIG. I can’t believe she was just born like what, last week?! They grow.so.fast.

Lovely chili but you’re right, Aubrey is the showstopper here!

It must be a mom thing- my mom’s chili rocks and I can’t get enough of it!! Plus, I asked for the recipe when I moved away from home and and she replied ‘there is no recipe, I just dump stuff in…’ Oh, moms!
Auntie Chelsey is awesome! That headband is soooooo cute! (the ring from the pacifier just adds to the cuteness!) Your sister’s newest addition to the family is a keeper!
The picture of Aubrey and Aunt Chelsey is PERFECT!

My mom stopped cooking a few years ago when my parents downsized, but now my dad is the chef and she’s the baker!

My dad is pretty much a grillmaster, so a dinner of grilled vegetables, salmon, and potatoes is perfect

Ha! I invite myself over to my mom’s house on a weekly basis. She doesn’t seem to mind, but I’m sure that there’s a more “polite” way to do it. We kinda just show up and scrounge. ;)

I’m so excited to get chili this week!!!!

And I am so amazed at how much harder it is to take pics of people over food. It really is! In fact, I had my uncle take our wedding pics. he is a food photographer and I thought “no biggie - you can do wedding photos. Food = same as people, right?”

Ummm…no. My biggest wedding regret is that we didn’t hire a wedding photographer. Our photos aren’t BAD, but let’s just say he certainly doesn’t have an eye for people and creative shots like weddings.

Omg she couldn’t get any cuter! I always love holding babies too. When there’s a baby in the room, I noticed that the mother loves letting other people hold the baby. Gives them a chance to rest their arms!

She is so adorable! I remember when my first niece was born, all my siblings would fight to hold her. When I knew she’d be over a certain day, first thing that morning I’d tell my sister, “I call to hold Marilena first today!” lol!

My sister will deliver her baby by this Wednesday and I cannot wait to hold a newborn again! :)

I love my mom’s tomato sauce! It’s simply amazing

She is too adorable! (as is the headband). This makes me homesick! My favorite meal my mom makes is her corned beef with cabbage carrots and potatos. I think it’s my favorite because she only makes it for St. Patrick’s day so it’s extra special! Haven’t been home for it for 5 years… I should convince her it’s a Katie is home meal now. Forget St. Patrick’s Day.
