feeling primal (giveaway!)

October 14, 2011

When I first got our dehydrator, one of the first things out of the Husband’s mouth was - “what the heck are you going to make with that?”

Do you want to know what I told him?

Jerky.

I was going to make… jerky? Really?

There’s a couple of problems with that. For one, I don’t eat meat. Making jerky would be like making my meat eatin’ husband some tofu and expecting him to gobble it up without complaint. Second, who makes jerky? (Don’t answer that if you do so regularly. You’ll make me look bad.)

October 5, 2011 033
So really, I don’t know if I’ll ever make jerky in that dehydrator of mine — mainly because I am now obsessed with Primal Strips.

A few weeks ago, I tried my first Primal Strip after I went to that cooking class at Whole Foods — they had an assortment of delicious treats out for us to all try (all of which were vegan and gluten free!), and one of these snacks were Primal Strips. I had never had one before, so I was curious as to what it was. Meatless Vegan Jerky Soy? Ummm, I didn’t know how I felt about that.

October 5, 2011 030

And then I actually tried it the next day during lunch.

I think you’ll know how much I loved it when I immediately emailed John @ Primal Spirit Foods to lay into him about how in love with Primal Strips I was.

There are so many amazing things about this strip — I am huge on eating soy that is Non-GMO, which Primal Strips are. They are also high in protein — 9 or 10 grams per strip! That is my kind of snack.

October 5, 2011 031

I have been adding these to basically everything. Baked potatoes, salads, sandwiches, or just plain ripping it apart with my teeth (they are called Primal Strips after all.).

Only two of the varieties are gluten free — Hickory Smoked and Texas BBQ — but there are more flavors as well, such as Mesquite Lime, Hot and Spicy, and Peanut Thai.

October 5, 2011 027
I can’t choose my favorite — don’t make me!

Lucky for you, the folks over at Primal Spirit Foods have offered to hold a giveaway for a lucky reader! One of you can win a variety pack of Primal Strips to enjoy for yourself. To enter this giveaway, you can do one (or all!) of the following:

1. Tell me what Primal Strip you are most interested in trying

Hi! One of my friends actually started a jerky business in college and later sold it haha. And my mom bought my stepdad a smoker for Christmas last year so he could start making his own. I’ve been a vegetarian for about 14 years so I’ve never tried jerky but if I could find it, I’d try the Hickory smoked. Or the Texas BBQ.

At first I was ALL about the Texas BBQ since my bf and I eat shredded tofu with BBQ sauce all the time… but that Mesquite Lime made my mouth water!! I have never heard of these before, and the bf is going to FREAK out when I tell him (since he is new to the vegetarian lifestyle and sometimes craves jerky).

I’d really like to try the hickory smoked version. My main question about these is: If Macho Man Randy Savage were still alive would he say that I could “snap into” Primal Strips?
