anxiously awaiting

December 21, 2011

Oh. My. Goodness. Have you ever once spent your day(s) with 21 fifth graders who are excited about the impending holidays? Ha! It’s been quite humorous on my part the past few days. The kids are so stinkin’ anxious to get out of school, so they have been very squirrely! This has definitely made me more tired the last few days. Two more days until our break begins!

Peas and Crayons

Breakfast – 6:15 AM

Notice the time change? Yeah, probably not, but I’m going to pretend like you did. I’ve come up with a new morning routine which has me spending less time doing blog work in the morning before I go to work. I have found out it IS possible for me to work out at 5 and be out of the house by 7. Success!

December 20, 2011 003

More chocolate protein oats (half eaten – whoops!) topped with dried cranberries and Teddie peanut butter. I got my Teddie on an Open Sky deal from Tina. (Could I have any more links in that sentence?) It seriously is one of the best peanut butters ever.

Treats for the Husband

December 20, 2011 005
Every year the parents at my school host a cookie exchange for the teachers around the holidays. While I usually can’t eat any of the treats, I always load up to bring some home for the Husband! There were so many delicious looking things I almost put my caring about not being sick aside to eat one of those peanut butter chocolate bars. Holy cow, they look so good!

Lunch – 11:30 AM

Lunch today was pretty delicious – some leftover soup that I made on Sunday. It has lentils, celeriac, carrots, kale, and brown rice in it. Anyone want the recipe? I would have to go take some better pictures because this one is looking pretty blurry!

December 20, 2011 006

And the soup is a weird color because I used purple carrots – they bled!

On the side of my soup, I also had about a cup of Chobani 2% mixed with cinnamon and 1 tbsp. chocolate protein powder.

December 20, 2011 007

Snack – 3:30 PM

I left school feeling so exhausted. Those kids sure know how to wear a lady out! On my way home, I snacked on (what else?) raisins and almonds.

September 6, 2011 004

Dinner – 6:15 PM

Dinner was just disappointing. It ended up being pretty good, but it was definitely not substantial. I had planned on making pasta, but then discovered there was only enough for one person so I ended up making it for the Husband (sacrifices, I tell ya…). Since we had a spaghetti squash, I decided to make that for myself instead. Then I turned it over and found out half of it was rotting. After cutting off the rotted part, I microwaved it for about eight minutes and when I “forked” out the meat, it tasted funky. I ended up tossing it.

Instead, I ended up having a big salad filled with tomatoes, onions, and chilled roasted beets (which I made over the weekend).

December 20, 2011 010

And by far the weirdest combination of the day, roasted cauliflower, sliced avocado (it’s under there!), and marinara sauce. Why I didn’t put the avocado on the salad is beyond me, but I thought it would get all creamy and delicious with the marinara sauce. I was right – it was pretty darn good!

December 20, 2011 009

And now (7:35 on Tuesday night), I am already hungry again – time for another snack!

Charlie did want to say “hello” though – we’re almost at our one year anniversary of adopting him!

December 20, 2011 013

Question: Are you waiting (im)patiently for a break from work/school/etc. for the holidays? How long do you get off?

2) Teddie pb is bomb. They don’t carry it at the grocery store at home…I wish I had stocked up while I was at school!!

That’s such a bummer about dinner! I hate it when I have plans to make something, only to find out one of my ingredients is rotten. It’s happened to me more times than I’d like to admit. :P

I had my last exam on Monday, so I’m on break until January 9th! Man, it feels gooooooood. :D

Today is my last day before Christmas break, and we have 2 weeks off from school! There’s going to be lots of “celebrating” today at school, so I’m not sure how much will get done. I’m watching a couple of my student’s in the orchestra concert, and then we’re having an all-school sing-a-long at the end of the day!

I feel your pain! I have taught lots of ages now and experiencing Christmas vacation drawing near is WAY differnt in each grade:
6th- excited but can usually contain themselves at least 60% of the time.
Kindergarten- still jaded and doesn’t understand how close Christmas really is their meaning of time still isn’t ironed out.
2nd- SUPER excited and crazy but scared enough of their teacher to contain themselves.
3rd- OVER THE TOP crazy and cannot control themselves no matter how serious their teacher says “Get it together! I’m not putting up with controlling zoo animals!”
I take it 3rd, 4th, and 5th can all be lumped into one group of zoo animals making us the zoo keepers the last 5 days before break? :) Keep calm and make it to Christmas break!

Reply

Yep, and I’ll get a new grade next year too (I’m praying like crazy for a lower elementary job and to STAY in a grade for a year or two!) ….. Does this explain why I am borderline crazy?! ;)

Reply

Alexis December 21, 2011 at 8:17 am

Props to teachers, I seriously could not do your job. I took the rest of this week off and have the next two Mondays and next Friday off. Granted off means taking care of my daughter for those days, but that is as close to time off that parents get. :)

I would love your soup recipe. I have been really enjoying homemade soups this season and have been adding a bunch of recipes to my collection because of it. So please, please share!

Jennifer @ Happiness Here December 21, 2011 at 8:20 am

I teach high school, and we got out on Friday the 16th. If you think 5th graders get “squirrely,” try teaching high schoolers the week before vacation! Whew!
9th - 12th: Lose brain cells and inhibitions and generally act as if they’re on crack.
Hang in there! Christmas is coming!

Reply

Gina @ Running to the Kitchen December 21, 2011 at 9:00 am

“Squirrely” is the best word ever. We have a million squirrels outside our house that run around like lunatics burying their acorns and I’m seriously picturing kids doing the same thing now. haha
I’m definitely anxious about getting some time off. I have so much left to do and I’m working through Friday! Ahhh!

Gah! I love that little puppy face!

I have off from my current job from 12/23 through 12/26 and then 12/30 through 1/2/12.
