I don’t know about you all, but I have been tired with a capital “T” this week! Yesterday more than anything, it took me a while to get myself peeled out of bed. Once I was up, I was fine — it was just the fact that I had to get my butt out of bed so early that I was not okay with!

Now that I’m devoting my workouts to LiveFit Trainer, I really am making an effort to get them all done before school — mainly because my gym is a madhouse in the afternoon! I am not about to fight someone for the 20 pound dumbbells at 4:30 in the afternoon — nope, not me! Thankfully, the person who opens has compromised and is coming in at 4:45 instead of 5:00 now which means more workout time for me! Yesterday was day 9 of LiveFit and the muscles targeted were back/biceps. It wasn’t as difficult as last week, which is good news for me!

A few people told me they couldn’t wait to see what I was eating now that I am doing LiveFit. However, to be honest, I’m not eating too much differently! I’m adding in a few more snacks, making a more conscious effort for protein, but since I already ate pretty “clean” to begin with, there isn’t much more to do!

Breakfast — 6:00 AM

Another Wednesday (okay, it was Tuesday), another delicious breakfast! This was a good one — full of great mix-ins!

January 24, 2012 004

  • 1/3 cups oats
  • almond milk
  • 1 egg white (whisked in)
  • 1/2 banana (whisked in)
  • 1 tbsp. chocolate Sun Warrior
  • cinnamon
  • blueberries
  • peanut butter

I could have eaten this for every meal yesterday and been happy — it was way too good for words!

On the side, I had a very large cup of Joe with soy milk. I wanted an IV drip of caffeine yesterday!

January 24, 2012 006

Snack — 9:30 AM

During my plan time, I ate a small snack to tide me over until lunch. I fried an egg this morning, topped it with some nutritional yeast and the good stuff (ketchup). I also brought a few carrots for some munching action!

January 24, 2012 008

Lunch — 11:30 AM

Okay this picture looks semi gross, but I swear it was good. I had a bowl of leftover chili (new recipe coming tomorrow!).

January 24, 2012 009

I also had a banana on the side but I was too lazy to get the camera back out again. #fail.

Snack — 3:30 PM

Raisins and almonds — the usual!

July 5, 2011 012
Dinner — 6:15 PM

Dinner was definitely not protein packed, but was very veggie packed! I was craving a lot of veggies like nobody’s business, so who am I to resist the cravings?

A veggie salad — which I topped with hummus and balsamic vinegar…

january 24, 2012 032

and roasted broccoli and sweet potatoes!

january 24, 2012 037

This is honestly one of my favorite meals — I don’t even care if it’s not very balanced!

I spy my sous chef!

january 24, 2012 038

Snack — 8:30 PM

My protein-less dinner was made up for at my snack though! I had a crumbled protein muffin on top of Greek yogurt and half of a chopped apple. There may or may not have been a nut butter spoon there as well. Let’s be honest — when is there not?

january 24, 2012 039

I think I did pretty well in the food department yesterday — I definitely went to bed satisfied, but not “stuffed” or like I ate too much throughout the day. Perfect feeling!

Question: How many times do you eat throughout the day? Which meal is your favorite and why?

Despite it featuring every WIAW on the blog, that bag of almonds & raisins always make me smile-> such a good snack! I’m with you on breakfast: I could eat that every single meal and have a very content tummy :) ! Have you found your hunger levels to have increased since you started lifting weights? Mine definitely have which means i have been amping up my protein intake…I even bought my first pack of protein powder #nervous

Oh my gosh, I have been a hunger beast! I guess it’s because your metabolism stays spiked longer when you strength train than when you do cardio. I found a really good article about it the other day:

Since I started teaching, I eat 6-7 times a day. My lunch break slowly becomes less about eating and more about just sitting, so I eat with my kids during their snacks and lunch time. Before, it was about 4 times a day.

I would love to be able to eat/teach at the same time but I’m not that coordinated. I’d probably spill on myself. My kids already think I’m ditzy enough!

To be honest I like that you’re not doing the LiveFit eats. I’m stoked for everyone who’s following the plan closely, but there are only so many egg whites and stuff you can see. I’m interested to see your results compared to theirs- I have a feeling that eating clean is more important than eating a ton of protein!

I love reading about your LiveFit-I am going to try it after my spring marathon! I always get lazy in the lifting department when mileage goes up.

I love the egg in the oatmeal, it makes it so fluffy. I could eat breakfast for every single meal and snack.

Do you make your own protein muffins? I am guessing you do-they always look sooo good!

Charlie is so adorable! I have a boston terrier and he’s ALWAYS sitting on one of the two rugs in the kitchen just waiting…….staring……watching my every move like a hawk for me to drop a morsel and then he swoops in like a ninja in the night and gobbles it up! I made kale chips yesterday and must’ve dropped 4 of them on the floor because I was pigging out on them right out of the oven and Baxter loved em! I bet Charlie loves some of your healthy foods too! PS. Way to be motivated in the morning! I suck at waking up early to exercise.

I eat embarrassingly frequently… breakfast is a 3 part affair thanks to needing to absorb iron/can’t eat my cereal at the same time as my yogurt (silly nutrition), and then I have 2 more regular meals and 2-3 snacks. So 7 times a day? My favorite meal is my morning snack- apple and string cheese make my morning!

Reply

cleaneatingchelsey January 25, 2012 at 8:24 pm

I’ve never heard about iron absorption before - can you fill me in?

Reply

Laurel January 26, 2012 at 6:40 am

I am anemic and take a monster iron supplement twice a day, but the trick about iron supplementation is that it is best with vitamin C, but should not be taken at the same time as anything containing calcium or a variety of other things (quote from http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/6315480: “tannins, phytates, phosphates, soya protein products and various “dietary” fibres have been reported to inhibit non-heme iron absorption”). Non heme iron is what is contained in non-animal sources of iron (I’m a vegetarian)… soooooo I have a banana and a multivitamin (blocks iron absorption), then coffee (blocks iron), THEN 2 hours later I have my iron supplement, iron fortified cereal, and an orange. It’s a fun game.

sorry for the long reply, and I’m not a nutritionist but I’ve seen one about my anemia!

I am super tired as well- we are talking falling asleep at 8:15 tired. That is so not me but I’m going with it (since I have already done it twice this week and may or may not do it again tonight) This constant lack of energy after 5:00 is killing me!!! I feel you pain, one day when the spring time comes maybe we will feel lively again.
I eat about 6X a day. Breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, snack after school, supper. WOW that seems like a lot now that I say it. Again, oh well- I’m owning it!

Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin January 25, 2012 at 7:23 am

I eat 3 meals + 2 snacks per day. I’ve thought about switching over to 5-6 mini meals per day, but that seems so difficult, especially when it means packing them to take to campus with me. My favourite meal is hands down breakfast!!!

Your oatmeal looks delicious! I’ve been whipping egg whites into my oatmeal lately too and I love it. It makes it kind of taste like French toast. :D

5-6 times a day - breakfast, am snack, lunch, pm snack, supper and sometimes bedtime snack/dessert. Supper usually isn’t eaten til 7:30pm so I usually don’t need the last snack.
Breakfast is and will always be my favorite meal.

Chili is about as photogenic as the Indian food I’ve been having for lunch lately. But both are generally pretty darn good despite their looks.

I don’t have a fav meal. Dinners are usually the most interesting, breakfast is the most awaited, but lunch is really fun when you eat out for it. Hmmmm… guess it depends on my mood.
