Ever since my CSA ended back in December, I have been a little depressed about the fact that I a) actually have to go to the store and buy my produce instead of being surprised and b) I don’t have my plethora of vegetables growing in my garden at the moment.
Earlier this week, I received a box of organic produce courtesy of Door to Door Organics. They gave me a gift certificate to use for one of their “Itty Bitty Boxes” a while ago, but due to my CSA this fall, holidays, and traveling, I didn’t have the opportunity to use it until this past week.
Door to Door Organics is an awesome set up – it runs out of a few different cities/states: Colorado, Chicago, Kansas City, and Michigan. Door to Door Organics partners up with organic farmers so fresh produce can be delivered to their customers. When signing up, you choose your city and then decide what kind of box you want – a fruit, a veggie, or a mixed. Then, you also choose your size – a Bitty, a Small or a Medium. For the sake of my gift certificate, I was given a Bitty Box – however, for a two person family with one being a vegetarian, I would definitely choose a larger share to receive on a regular basis.
After choosing your share, there is an option of receiving produce weekly or bi-weekly, which I think is a really great option – some people plow through veggies, while others take a while longer to eat through it. The last step is to type in your zip code, and they tell you exactly what day of the week your box will be delivered! That is one really big “pro” to Door to Door Organics. Although I love my CSA, it was such a pain to go and pick up the box each week. I also didn’t have the option of picking and choosing what kind of produce I wanted with my CSA, which is something Door to Door Organics offers.
A Bitty Box, which retails at $26.99 included all of the following produce.
Not the best deal in my opinion (since I go through so many fruits and vegetables), but if you’re looking for convenience, Door to Door definitely brings that!
I’ve already plowed my way through the bananas, the apples, both the yams and half the pepper in a matter of two days. I will say one thing though – the produce is really great. I am always worried that when I don’t pick my own produce it will end up being bad. However, the apples are crisp, the yams were delicious, and I have not had a sweeter red pepper in a long time.
If you would like to try out Door to Door Organics, they have set up the code “cleaneating” for all my readers to get $10 off your first order!

Thanks so much chelsey for sharing this and for the coupon code! do you have to live in those particular states to receive the produce? i am assuming so. but it not, i would love to try this out!!!
Haha, yea I think that’s a bit expensive for what you get, but still that’s some good produce in january!
I miss my CSA too!
That seems pretty pricey but I think I would definitely be tempted to order it anyway on weeks where I’m super busy with exams!
so cool! THanks for the code
That’s such a great idea! It’s a great way to get clean, organic food when you’re super busy. However, I do really enjoy going to the local market and picking out my own groceries.
That’s awesome! I want them to come to my house. Though I do love dropping by the farmer’s market and perusing the stalls with the kids, this would still be very convenient and useful.
I like the concept, but the price seems pretty high. Also, part of what I love about my CSA is that it’s local produce grown by a farm that I know. Since you’re getting tropical fruit, that produce doesn’t look local! I’d rather have a winter CSA (there are lots that deliver either storage vegetables or shares of their summer vegetables that have been frozen).
i bought a living social deal for door to door organics once and it was great! we also really like irv and shelly’s (http://www.freshpicks.com/cms/).
I’ve never heard of door-to-door organics…thanks so much for sharing! What a great way to get produce!
I miss being able to walk out to my garden and get a HUGE amount of vegetables whenever my heart desires. Spring and summer, I miss you!
That’s awesome. Are those cute little sweet potatoes?
They’re yams!
I’ve definitely been thinking about joining a CSA this coming spring/summer. Door to Door sounds like a good, convenient idea, but I agree it doesn’t look like much for $27!
I was thinking about my CSA and it came out to about $30 a week - and we got probably more than double that!
i agree it does sound a bit expensive for what you get except with $10 off it’s not so bad! i sent the link to my friend in kc.. too bad they don’t deliver in st louis otherwise i’d try it!
yeah with the $10 off it’s worth it!
I miss Amazon Fresh, I use to live in 98007 zip code, and CSA too. We also had daily farmer’s markets throughout the area. I am still surprised how some areas have it all, and some are… food deserts. Thanks for sharing!
That price is pretty steep. Would you buy from them if you didn’t get any compensation/promo?
Probably not. Mainly because I love going to the grocery store and I can get it cheaper!
What a great idea! My friend is starting up an organic farm and is looking to get involved in something similar to this or CSA. I will pass this information along to him! Thanks for sharing.
I think this is such a rad idea, but I eat wayyyyy more than what a box will always deliver. Sigh. I would order a whole box just on my spinach!
I love trying new things though, so that would be fun!!!
