snack healthfully (LARABAR giveaway!)

February 7, 2012

At the end of 2011, I got word from one of my favorite companies about an exciting opportunity in 2012!

As you all probably know, my heart swoons over Larabars. I have been eating them for a few years and proclaiming my love for them one cashew cookie bar at a time. Last year I found out that Larabar has an Ambassador Program for health and fitness professionals (not that I am calling myself a professional AT ALL), and I thought it would be a great program for me to become a part of to help me share my love for Larabars with you all!

To help kick off the celebration of becoming a Larabar Ambassador (and for February being American Heart Month!), I thought I would host a giveaway with some of the goodies Larabar has sent me.

One of the things I love about Larabar is their pure ingredients – each one of the bars is comprised of no more than 9 ingredients, some of which are of the nut variety.

Since February is American Heart Month, I can’t let it go without saying how heart healthy nuts are for your body. Taken from the Mayo Clinic, nuts have been shown to be:

  • made up of unsaturated fats (the good kind!)
  • include omega-3 fatty acids (perfect for a vegetarian)
  • high in fiber
  • include Vitamin E (which may help to stop plaque build up in your arteries)

source

All of those awesome qualities can also help to lower bad cholesterol. Time for some snacking!

For my first Larabar giveaway, one lucky reader will be winning 12 of my favorite Larabar mini’s as well as a Larabar water bottle.

To enter this giveaway, leave a comment about what heart healthy activity you are going to partake in during the month of February.

This giveaway will be open until Thursday, February 9 @ midnight. A winner will be announced Friday morning. Happy entering!

Disclaimer: Larabar sent me these goodies as part of the Larabar Ambassador program. Larabar is not affiliated with the American Heart Month nor do they claim to make your heart healthier.

I agree the bars are tasty, but am deterred from purchasing them because of the packaging..it seems like a lot of waste coming from the way they are packaged because from what I understand the wrappers are not biodegradable. If they are though, I’d love to know..

Interesting point! And I’m not sure about the wrappers - something to look into for sure!

A third grade student in me answers to this question:
- I didn’t know I had to have a heart healthy activities this month. Does eating an extra pound (on a top of regular two pounds) of walnuts counts? Or chasing a geese outside for two hours to take their picture considered an activity? I really love those cherry Larabars, please, pick me! pick me! Lol.
That’s all the extra from me. My usual routine is yoga, cardio, aquafitness, and cross training. I can’t think of anything else. Oh, no. I have in my mind to chase Cardinal birds to take picture of them too. Imagine that!
Seriously I love those cherry Larabars. :)

mmm…i LOVE larabars! the fact that they are simple and natural (and that i can read and decipher every ingredient on the label) makes them amazing and #1 in my book. my husband and i each eat a peanut butter one every morning. i think i keep whole foods in business with these as i go there and purchase boxes at a time!

this month, i am completing the february run challenge! the goal is to run everyday. no rules, except that it has to be one mile or more to count. it’s a great way to motivate yourself and prove to yourself that you can do anything you put your mind to! you can find out more about the challenge @ http://www.swimbikerunningonempty.weebly.com. i would love for others to join me!

I am doing a 12 week XTREME boot camp at my local gym. They take a before pic and after…can’t wait to see my results. I did the very first one that the gym offered and I went from 22% body fat (8 months post baby) and left the challenge with 15%. The workouts were brutal, but the feel of accomplishment was awesome!!

Since I love weight-training already and am in the 3rd phase (YES!) of LiveFit Trainer…I’m getting quite a bit of activity already. However, I’m also dog-sitting these next 2 weeks…a very active black lab. Needless to say, I’ve had the little man for 4 days and feel like I’ve explored every trail in the city so far. I love it! I get to see my new city (just moved to Ann Arbor, MI) AND supplement my workouts with some jogs (since I have a desk job…this is definitely a plus!).
Thanks for the giveaway Chelsey!

You inspired me to start Livefit! I’m only on week 2 but so far, I LOVE IT! I also have been trying to stick to a 40-40-20 macro count (although, it is hard to constantly count calories). I’m kind of nervous for when the cardio kicks into high gear with phase 2 and 3 (like Janetha from meals and moves, I prefer weight training over cardio) but also excited to shed some pounds.

Come onnnnn Luna Bars!!

I just recently found your blog….I love reading it and really want to try overnight oats now! My heart healthy activity is walking at least 3 miles at least 5 days a week.

I am going to get my walk on! It’s a great way to get from a to b, save gas, and get some blood pumping!

I’m training for my first 1/2 marathon-a lot of heart healthy running for me. :)

I crossfit regularly, and this month, I’m going to focus on getting yoga back into my schedule as well.

I started my 30 day yoga challenge on January 29th! I have to complete 30 yoga classes in 30 days. I am allowed to miss days, but no more than 2 classes per day for make up! Also, I made the big change from a vegetarian diet to a vegan diet on February 1st (bye bye cheesy eggs). So far.. so good!
