1. By this morning, I was so tired of not teaching that I couldn’t wait to get to work. ISAT week is nice for the first day, but then after that you have all of your work done and are ready to get back to it. I had a few days where I was itching to instruct!!!
2. The other day I had some blood work done – turns out I’m extremely Vitamin D deficient. Read this article – it blew my mind. Not saying it’s the end all to my problems, but could definitely be playing a part. Needless to say, my doctor has me on an intense Vitamin D replacement therapy for the next 8 weeks. It’s like a giant pill of happy!!!!
3. It’s supposed to be in the 60’s all week next week – even 70 and 73 for a few days!!! @(#)(*#@)(*@#)($*@#)
4. Speaking of Spring, it’s time to “spring ahead” with your clocks this weekend. Don’t forget or you’ll be showing up early for everything. I’m a little sad to miss an hour of sleep, but I’m more than ready for the sunlight later in the night!
5. Tomorrow morning is Pancake Day (not any sort of national holiday – just pancake day because I say so). Not sure what kind of pancakes I want to make yet, but I’m pumped to say the least.
6. We are going to a “theme dinner” tomorrow night – the theme is Oregon Trail. Looks like I need a bonnet or something to wear. I’m thinking Laura Ingalls Wilder. Where in the world can I get an outfit to wear?
7. Yesterday during my acupuncture appointment, I slept SO hard. I usually take like a 15-20 cat nap, but wake up and just relax until they come back to take my needles out. Yesterday I fell asleep the second my head hit the pillow, and I was woken from my deep sleep 45 minutes later. I felt like I had been laying down for 5 seconds. It was amazing.
8. I want this. And this. And this. And this.
9. Why is it that I’ve seen them all around the blog world for the longest time, but I only tried an Adora Calcium Disk yesterday? I’m obsessed. I am packing some for lunch EVERY day from now on.
10. Only two more weeks until Hunger Games!!!!!
11. I just started reading A Grown Up Kind of Pretty – it is SO good. I bought it the other day for my Kindle because my wonderful mother surprised me by emailing me a gift certificate to Amazon to buy some books. It had nothing to do with me asking her if I could borrow her Kindle because I’m not allowed to buy any more books for a while either.

11. Happy Friday – have a lovely weekend!

Wow, I seriously had no idea it was Spring Forward this weekend. Thank you for reminding me or else I would be left in the dark.
Glad to hear you got some answers from the bloodwork. Always thinking about you! <3
And I’m always thinking about YOU!
I need a new book to read, and that one looks really good! And that’s great that you’re getting answers. Hopefully the Vitamin D helps!
I’m already about 100000x happier. I’m not even kidding you.
Yay, that’s great! Maybe that what I need to take in the winter…I’ve been taking Vitamin B-12 to help my energy, but I get the winter blues every year and feel so “blah.”
I’m not so much looking forward to the springing ahead on the clocks- back to work in the deep, deep, dark in the mornings but it will be nice to have some sunshine later in the day! I guess I’ll take it- YAY spring.
Testing is done! YAY for you! —I’m done with the reading portion of the tests! So pumped to have at least one part out of the way! Enjoy your weekend, Chelsey!
Enjoy your weekend too! Just think though - soon it will be light out at 7:30 at night! Incredible!
Don’t let the Kindle break the bank. After some research I learned that there are great ways to get free books. Like swapping books with other Kindle users, going on your library website and downloading them for 3 week periods, getting amazon prime to use their free lending library , OR checking out Amazon’s weekly list of books under $5,sometimes if you’re lucky it’s not just old lame books
I wrote more about this in a post because I spent $40 in my first month of being a kindle owner and that was a new budget I didn’t want to have to plan for! Hope that helps, Happy weekend
How can you swap books with other readers? I think there are only certain books you can do this with, right?
I’m a lurker, but I love your blog! Anyway, my husband recently cut me off from buying books for my Nook, so I started checking them out through the library. Maybe your library has something similar? It’s just like buying books right for the e-reader, only FREE!
They do have something similar, but I can never find the good new ones!
Spring forward, something mike is not happy about, haha! He treasures all the sleep he can get on the weekends!
I got your email, I was in bed on my phone and couldn’t reply to you for some reason, my iphone was acting up :p but how crazy about the Vitamin D! I will have to look into that or perhaps just start adding more
Yay for the weekend! I hope the dinner is fun tomorrow, cool how it is themed!
Love you!
I’m not happy about it either! On Saturdays I get up early for yoga, and Sundays I get up early for church - it’s a lose lose!
Oh, I’ll have to see what that book is about. I could use more books to read. Or I wish I could. I have 3 waiting for me…but NO TIME! Haha!
And interesting stuff on the vitamin D.
I know, right? What 3 books are currently on your “to read” list?
A few years ago I had bloodwork done and it turned out that I was vitamin D deficient also! Once you get that extra dose back into your blood, you’ll feel so much better! My mood improved, my energy soared, it was amazing! I still take a vitamin d supplement every morning and can absolutely tell when I forget it. Good luck!
I already feel so much better after just one dose - like 10000x happier! It’s amazing!
i had no idea it was already time to change the clocks! yay for later daylight
and i also was unaware of that weather forecast…. yesssssss!
Did you also know we’re under a “fire weather watch” right now - wth is that?!?
my recent bloodwork showed an extreme vitamin D deficiency also (but in today’s world, I’m pretty sure that everyone is vitamin D deficient). She recommended 2000 IU per day. Now if only I could remember to take them…
My doctor told me that 2,000 IU per day for a severe deficiency is not enough. She said it won’t do enough an you need a lot more than that. I’m on 50,000 IU per week for 8 weeks - it’s like a mega dose, but apparently it’s pretty common to prescribe so much for severe deficiencies. After it gets back to normal, then I can start taking the 2,000 IU.
An oregon trail themed dinner party? That’s AWESOME!!!!!!!
I’ve heard that you can check out books for your Kindle from the library - they download and then just expire from your Kindle in 3 weeks unless you renew. I don’t know how it works since I don’t have one yet
If it’s that way in Cincinnati, I’m sure it’s the same in Chicago!
We do have that option but I always want to read the new books!
AHHHH of course the week I LEAVE for spring break it’s going to be just as nice here as in Colorado Springs! Haha oh well, at least you can enjoy it! And I cannot wait for the Hunger Games movie!!!!
Have a fun spring break!!!
Ugh, I feel the same way about ISAT. Unfortunately, my fourth graders still take science today, so ISAT week isn’t quite over for me yet. But I am so, so excited to teach again next week!
My first year of teaching I taught 4th grade, so I ha to do all of those tests too!
I love the idea of an oregon trail themed dinner! I would try Salvation Army or any type of thriftstore for clothes, you never know what you might find!
Ooo I’m gonna have to check out that book for my upcoming spring break! I’m going to read that article on Vitamin D asap…so interesting! Hopefully it helps you out! And I am so freaking excited for the hunger games! Ahhh I think I’m gonna have to drag my fiance to go hehe.
If not in the hormone department, it’s definitely made me a happier person ALREADY!
I hope the D works for you!! My mom was D deficient and I know she noticed a HUGE improvement once she started taking supplements. Thanks for the book recommendation! I’ve been looking for some good reads to download for vacation!
Have a good weekend!
I have already noticed a dramatic difference in my energy levels, my happiness, and my headaches. It’s like an amazing thing.
I tried your coconut almond pancakes from the other day and they were awesome! Go pancake day
I’m so glad you liked them!
Ditto to the Kindle books from the library comments - all you need is a library card number! Most libraries have the service by now, and it’s so easy to use
I like the new books though and they never have any!
I AM SO EXCITED TO SPRING AHEAD! I live for longer days and more daylight hours!!! That theme dinner sounds so fun! What a cool group of friends you must have….I wish my friends would wanna do fun stuff like that! I have always wanted to go to a murder mystery dinner party….that would be awesome.
can you believe how cold it is in Chicago today?? what is going on with this weather!
Yeah …. cannot take it any longer. Nor can our poochie. She wants to sunbathe outside. Just loves-loves the sun on her white curls.
Hurry up summertime. We need you.
I don’t know, but I didn’t like it at recess!
I’m not sure what type of symptoms you have been having (I’m a fairly new reader to your blog); but I started intense prescription Vitamin D a few months ago. After my 12 weeks, I ran out and forgot to refill. My symptoms came back within a couple of weeks; so, I do believe the Vitamin D helps. Good luck!
Joshilyn Jackson’s other books are also very good - check them out! And to echo the other commenter’s statement regarding the library option for Kindle - it’s how I’ve read all my book so far. You have to sign up through Omni Libraries (northern Illinois’ system) but then all books are free! It’s awesome!
Well, I guess I should go off of what symptoms I have seen disappear in the last 2 days based off of my first pill that I took. I was always tired, an din the afternoon on the way home I would honestly be falling asleep. I was having headaches every single day and just had an overall fog and not “true” happiness. I have already seen myself perk up TREMENDOUSLY and my headaches/tiredness have disappeared. It’s absolutely amazing.
My symptoms were a bit different - heart palpitations and lightheadedness. I didn’t think the D helped but apparently those with a medical degree do know a little something. Good luck - hope you have continued success with it!
Good luck with the vitamin D, I hope it helps! I found out earlier last year that I was quite deficient in vitamin D and taking some every day helped me in SO many ways, it definitely did make me happier and made difficult things in life seem so much easier.
Is it silly that I’m kind of jealous of your oregon trail theme dinner? That sounds like so much fun! Try checking out good will or the salvation army for a long dress, those stores can be gold mines for costume parties.
Happy Friday!
It has already made me so much happier! And less tired and my headaches are gone!
I’ve never been so ready to lose an extra hour of sleep. GIVE ME THE LIGHT!
Thanks for the tomato love
You’re welcome - they look fantastic.
Here is a great recipe for vegan and gluten free vanilla blueberry buckwheat pancakes for your weekend (and a great vegan blog too)
http://ohsheglows.com/
I saw those the other day - they look good!
I’m voting carrot cake pancakes tomorrow morning, naturally with Greek yogurt as ‘frosting’
That does sound pretty darn good!
Not sure if this would work for you - but my entire family (parents, sister, me — I think you can add up to 5??) share one kindle account. That way we all have access to everyone’s books. I rarely have to buy books since we also share the same taste.
To keep it “fair” we load amazon cards to the account when needed but my parents’ card is the backup payment and they don’t complain if we go over.
Would my mom and I have had to do that before we registered our kindles though?
I don’t think so… I gave my sister my old one that had never been linked with everyone else’s (they all joined the kindle bandwagon 1+ year after my original one) I would have to ask her again, but as long as she didn’t delete the books off the kindle I don’t think she ever lost the books I purchased before giving it to her. There are lots of post like this in the amazon forums I found - here’s a recent one: http://www.amazon.com/forum/kindle?_encoding=UTF8&cdForum=Fx1D7SY3BVSESG&cdThread=Tx3O3JY5VQ6DW33
Wish they made it easier to share books back and forth, I’m so cheap when it comes to buying books because even back when we all bought “real” books I always just shopped the parents’ library!
I would’ve forgot about Spring forward! Actually, I will still probably forget. Too bad we lose an hour of sleep =/ I’ve never tried the adora disk either, I want one! Happy Friday
Thanks for the book recommendation! I’m almost done with my current one and am dreading the end…it’s so good! (The Baker’s Daughter)
Also, that theme dinner sounds amazing AND the HUNGER GAMES!! I need to line up a babysitter NOW.
Thanks for the pb+ ginger link love. You will LOVE it.
That’s the next book on my list!!!
Actually, if you don’t change your clocks, won’t you be late for everything… or am i insane? like, getting to work at your usualy 9 am would be the new 10 am, yes?
Thanks to all the commenters who posted tips on free kindle books!!! I need to check this out ASAP! I’ve gotten a few books for under $3 when they have the specials, and I really enjoyed them!
Um, yeah - that was a mistake on my part. I was trying to figure it out after I posted this and was driving to school. I couldn’t figure out whether I would be late or early!! haha!
Sounds like a great week…time off, an acupuncture appt, and a nap!
And Spring Ahead…whoa. You’re the first person who’s mentioned this or that I’ve seen of it. Thanks for the heads up. YAY. Love the longer/lighter days!
I feel like it’s early this year!
Yay for the warm weather!! We’re experiencing some warm weather here too but rain is on the horizon (yuck) — I’m tired of cold weather clothes! And I’ve never been able to find those Adora discs but am dying to try them! Oh and I’m right there with you about not being able to buy anymore books, but I’ll be adding that one to my ever-growing wish list!
I am so jealous that you’re going to an Oregon Trail themed dinner! That game was the best, but I always died of typhoid fever.
haha - my oxen always died when we were forging through the rivers.
An Oregon themed party is kind of awesome … I have no idea what you would serve there but bet it’ll be a lot of fun to see what people come up with.
I was so D deficient that the doctor had me on something like 50,000 units of D once a week for like 4 months. I think I’m okay now, but I’m supposed to take a D supplement daily (of which I ran out and haven’t gotten more of) so maybe that is why I’m so tired all the time. I guess being D deficient can cause a lot of physical problems. Good you got checked out.
That’s what I’m on too - and my tiredness is GONE and so are my headaches. I’m also about 10000x happier in general after just 2 days. It’s pretty amazing!
Good Will has the best clothes for themed parties. My husband and I always go there to create out halloween costumes and its SO cheap!
Great idea! I forgot to suggest something.
Not sure what, or how to go about finding/making a costume. Those girls wore very-very simple things. Bland cotton dresses in grays or pale blue.
Did they have night hats …. for sleeping? Wow. Do you remember the shoes??? Ohmygosh. Weird. Those were the days I guess.
haha - I’m going to have to go to a few thrift stores tomorrow!
I am loving this gorgeous weather! After last year’s winter, I will gladly take the 40 to 50 degree winter.
I am loving the cookie butter from Trader Joe’s! Tastes like gingerbread cookies.
I’m not excited about missing an hour of sleep- its usually the one night I don’t get as much sleep….but the weather is looking nice in my area too
Wow I love the sushi salad idea! And I am so excited for the Hunger Games too
.
I’ve been taking a vitamin D supplement for a while now. As I’m from the Caribbean, I am used to a lot of sun, and moving to grey, rainy Vancouver was a shock to my system. The Vitamin D not only helps my body but my mind too - I don’t get nearly as affected by the grey weather as I used to when I first moved here! Highly recommended!
I am counting down the days until the Hunger Games movie comes out! I can’t wait. I keep watching the trailers online because I can’t get enough!
I hate springing forward and falling back. I wish everything could just stay the same! This has nothing to do with the fact that no matter how much I try to prepare for it it messes me up for days. Or that’s exactly why.
Acupuncture already makes me nervous (dang needles), but I think I’d be too wired to even think about sleeping! Glad it’s helping you.
I’m not one of those people who are afraid of needles - they’ve never bothered me!
Please write more about this Oregon Trail themed dinner party…I love a theme and am very intrigued!
haha it’s actually a fundraiser dinner for a church - they have one every year. Some of the other themes we’ve gone to have been Prom (so so fun!) and 70′s.
I’ve been dying to instruct my cooking class lately - don’t you just feel like a little ball of energy without it? And I just can’t wait until the Hunger Games - I’m kind of disappointed that I haven’t made anything for it just yet even though I read all of the books when they first came out! ^^;
Glad your getting your Vit D fixed and your doc is on top of it. It’s so critical for calcium absorption!
That dinner party theme is too funny-brings back old memories of playing that game at school!
Let us know how you are feeling when vitamin D gets into your system. My sister takes one everyday.
So glad temps are warming up! Yay. We need it badly. My body is always cold.
Hey Chelsey …. you can find all Adora flavors at Whole Foods. I just bought a bag. When I have friends for dinner, I put an Adora in a wine glass for each pal!
Enjoy the weekend ~ ~ ~ : )
Thanks for the tip!
Yay for good weather! I was in desperate need of a good book so thanks for the suggestion.
Vitamin D deficiency is growing problem and research is saying that it’s because we’ve gotten so obsessed with sunscreen, isn’t that crazy? We try to protect against melanoma and then we’re Vitamin D deficient! good news is that a lil’ bit of time in the sun will take care of you and the Vitamin D supplements will, too
my family works in research and worldwide common health problems … anywhooo .. during the spring and summer you’d get enough sunshine in a 30 minute dog-walk (enough for one day’s worth) which will also help with calcium absorption
so take those calcium supplements, too!
That’s what I”ve heard as well!
So excited for daylight savings time! True, it will stink to miss an hour of sleep, but since I can sleep until whenever on Sunday, I don’t really mind. Last year, I had bachelorette party on Saturday night, we were up until around 4 (which was really 5 after the time change) and then we had the bridal shower the next MORNING at 9am. It was kind of painful, even though the party was fun
where do you buy your adora disks?? i have been looking all over for them!
I got them at a health foods store around her, but someone just told me that you can find them at Whole Foods.
Too bad your theme party is tomorrow; these shirts would’ve been PERFECT!
http://www.bustedtees.com/dysentery
I want weather in the 70s—so jealous! Happy weekend!
Okay after reading this post I literally hopped in the car and went right to Whole Foods to get those Adora calcium chocolates. I don’t take any supplements except for B12 because I’m huge on getting my vitamins/minerals from food sources….but with calcium and Vitamin D I feel like I could definitely use a boost here and there (especially on days when I don’t have a smoothie, since the almond milk I use is one of my best sources of calcium).
I was SO pleasently surprised by Adora…they are literally amazing! The dark chocolate flavor was phenomenal. It’s like a great piece of chocolate that happens to have a bunch of calcium and Vit D. I’m gonna have to stop myself from eating ten in one sitting, seriously. Thanks for the tip!
The sushi salad looks good! I’m totally gonna repin that. Yup. OMG the Hunger Games! I am so excited. I hope you’ Vitamin D issue gets better! Have a great weekend, and enjoy the nice weather: for me (in freakin’ Texas) it’s cold and rainy and windy. Yuck.
My doc just started me on a vitamin D supplement. Now I’m kind of excited to take it after hearing how happy it’s making you! I also love Joshilyn Jackson and can’t wait to get my hands on this book!
Hi Chelsey,
Not sure how you feel about taking fish oil, but just one dose provides 100% of your daily vitamin D3 need in a natural form. I buy cod oil (NOT pills…an actual bottle of oil) from Whole Foods and everyone in my family takes a tablespoon a day. It’s pricey but has soo many benefits associated with it. Look into it! Good luck with everything…I feel your feminine-problem pain (I have the same problem)
-Irina
Thanks for the advice, Irina! That is what my TCM doctor wanted me to do in the first place, but I told him I wasn’t comfortable taking fish oil - he said I could take the D3 tablets once my 8 week intense therapy is over.
I love book recommendations! Thank you
Also…last fall my husband didn’t work for almost three months because he wasn’t feeling well. (He’s a pilot, so feeling a little off is a much bigger deal than it is to most.) Long story short, after a million different tests, he was diagnosed with a Vitamin D deficiency and felt like a new person after the supplements kicked in. I hope they work the same magic for you!
