Never do I make it public knowledge when the Husband goes out of town over the weekend, but this past weekend was just one of those! After Easter weekend being so incredibly busy, I was more than ready to relax all by myself for the majority of the weekend (and watch whatever girly show I wanted to watch on TV at night!).
On Friday night, I met up with my parents for dinner at a local pizza place that serves up the best gluten free pizza ever. Good for me, not for my dad’s wallet. At $18 apiece, he cringes every time my mom and I order our own pizza – it’s sooo worth it though! When I got home on Friday night, I put on my pink fuzzy socks (necessary), grabbed a blanket, and alternated between reading, watching TV, and snuggling with Charlie for the rest of the night.
On Saturday I had the best intentions of sleeping in, until I remembered that I hadn’t been to my favorite yoga class in about a month – sleeping in can wait, right? Right. It didn’t hurt that Charlie’s internal clock wakes me up around 6:00 every single morning, so I was up and at ‘em with more than enough time to make it to the 8:15 class. After yoga, I headed over to Trader Joe’s where I picked up a few items for this week, and on my way back home I picked up a coffee because I was so incredibly exhausted.
Instead of going straight home, I decided to stop over at my sister’s (who only lives about a mile away) and visit with her and Aubrey for a little while. man oh man, is my niece a drama queen – she cracks me up.
After a while, I headed back home to enjoy my pretty new flowers and a lunch that has been on repeat for the past week.
The rest of Saturday was spent visiting a friend who was in the hospital recently, going to church (I would sometimes like to go on Saturday instead of Sunday morning so I take advantage of it while the Husband is away!), and relaxing for the rest of the night because I wasn’t feeling so well.
I had hopes of sleeping in on Sunday, but I ended up having one of the worst nights’ sleep ever! Someone noted that once I have kids, I will laugh at that statement – while that is probably true, I sure felt sleepy on Sunday. I cleaned the house, which made me want to sleep – so I napped for an hour before I woke up to go meet my cousin for a sushi lunch!
Once I got home, I took yet another nap (don’t judge me), and that left time for Charlie and me to wait for the Husband to get home!
It sounds like quite a boring weekend, but I can assure you it was much needed – I felt quite well rested once Monday morning came around!
Question: Do you enjoy relaxing weekends?

I have a hard time relaxing even though my brain knows how beneficial it is for my body. It just always seems like there is something that needs doing! Sounds like you had a great weekend though. In fact, it sounds perfect.
Thanks - it was nice to just relax!

Sometimes you just need one of those weekends, I love being able to do my own thing for a while, feeling footloose and fancy free to clean and do yoga and what not, sounds good to me!
Me too! I like being on my own every once in a while!
Love relaxing weekends like those…it’s nice to wake up feeling refreshed on a Monday morning! Off topic but what have you been eating for breakfast lately- or is the oats rut over?
ha! last week I ate a lot of pancakes - today I had some cold overnight oats. I want to give a breakfast bake a whirl as well!
Sounds like a very restful, chill weekend! Those are the best! After a busy week that is exactly what I look forward to on the weekends!!!
Perfect little weekend you must have had! Glad that you felt rested when Monday came around!
…..I seriously woke up this morning and said “It seriously can’t be only Tuesday” as I stammered for my alarm. ugh.
Okay I hope you read my comment today and wonder why I am such a goober - I honesetly did NOT know you were pregnant. JULIE WHY DIDN’T YOU TELLL MEEEE?!?! I’m so happy for you, seriously!
That sounds exactly like the kind of weekend I’m craving, but unfortunately wont be enjoying for quite some time!!!
So sorry! Hopefully you’ll get one soon!
Your niece is so cute!!
I love relaxing weekends, and I sometimes enjoy a little “alone” time, when the husband is traveling somewhere. He’s my buddy and we always have a great time together, but a little alone time never hurt anyone!
Thank you - I’m biased, but she is stinkin’ adorable!
i get so excited when i DONT have weekend plans!! love relaxing!!
Relaxing weekends are the best! It’s so nice to just have some time to yourself to do whatever you want. Especially when that includes going out for pizza!
I was a single lady for a whole WEEK while my hubby took a trip to SC with the junior golfers on their March break. Not gonna lie, but I LOVED the break. Not from him, but just to have some alone time. Sometimes it’s majorly needed after being around someone all the time. I soaked it allllll up, but was obviously happy when he got home!
I’m glad you just relaxed…and maybe we could have a nap-off sometime. I might win, if you can handle that! hahahha
I agree - I love having him around, but some time for me was good. By the time Sunday came around though, we (charlie and I) were itching for him to be home!
I do, but sometimes I get too antsy. I always want to down time then when it comes I am bored. I need to learn to embrace the down time and just relax
I did get pretty antsy haha!
That weekend sounds lovely! I WILL enjoy relaxing weekends this summer, as long as my internship doesn’t give me out of the office work to do!
Oo good luck with your internship!
Relaxing weekends are often the best, especially when there is a cute pup around to snuggle with
Oh, and I must add that Aubrey is simply precious.
WHy thank you! Her and Haley would get along just swimmingly. We should have a play date.
i love single lady weekends every once in awhile. of course i miss my husband when he’s gone, but it’s nice to truly just do whatever the heck i want to do. glad you were able to relax and spend time with family!
xoxo
I was wanting him to be home SO badly on Sunday - especially since he didn’t have his phone!!!!
I have single lady weekend every month, sometimes, two times a month, when husband is on call at the hospital. And I like it from time to time. Relaxing, beauty naps, reading, and romantic movies… Sometimes it’s a road trip or window shopping. Why men don’t get that window shopping can be a lot of fun?!
I like regular shopping more than window shopping!
I love relaxing weekends and yours sounds perfect (minus the troubled night’s sleep)! I run around like a fiend most of the time so to me, there’s not much better than putting on my pjs, kicking up my feet and putting a dent in my dvr with absolutely nothing on the agenda
That sounds like the best weekend!
I kept my niece and nephew, so it was go, go, go!
Oh yes, it’s always go go go with kiddos!
that sounds absolutely perfect. I hate weekends where I am always rushed and feel more exhausted afterward!
Umm, HELLO, you forgot about the absolute best part of your Saturday…
your late night gchat session with ME!
haha I did NOT forget about that - highlight of my day obviously! Actually, it was awesome. I’m so glad I got to talk to you!
i LOVE weekends like this! so leisurely and relaxing… i feel like a new person come monday!
you and me both - 3 more full days until we see each other!!!!
Glad you had a nice weekend off, but at the same time, isn’t it funny how “relaxing weekends” with no plans end up being twice as busy as regular ones?
Totally!
Cannot believe how big Aubrey has gotten. How did that happen so fast?
I have absolutely no idea. She is huge!
I had a relaxing weekend too, they’re the best, especially after a busy weekend like Easter!
Sounds like a grea weekend! Charlie is too cute. I need to try and nap more like you, it’s so tough for me to do!
You better soak up those naps as much as you can!!!
If I’ve been go-go-go for a while then there is nothing better than a relaxing night or weekend. I dislike them when life has been quiet for a while because I feel like I’m ‘wasting’ my precious days off doing nothing, so there’s always that internal battle. But if life has been busy, I will gladly take a couple of days of relaxation! Sounds like you knew what you needed. You may have just been sleeping badly because your brain knew something was different with your husband away. Our subconsciouses are super powerful!
It’s true - if I’m away on vacation or something and he’s not with me, I’m okay with sleeping by myself, But when I’m at home and he’s not there, I toss and turn all night!
That sounds like a fantastic weekend! I love laying around weekends where nothing is planned and you can just decide at the last minute what you want to do. I stayed home this past weekend and rested to try and get over being sick. While it wasn’t the same as feeling good and resting, I did enjoy catching up on my tv shows and taking it easy!
When my husband is gone it is usually during the week and it always throws off my schedule. I don’t mind being alone, but I sure do miss him! I like to go to church on Saturday nights too. People always talk about their lazy Sunday mornings and it’s a nice change of pace.
It is nice - John loves going to church on Sunday mornings (I like it most of the time), but there’s something nice about just taking it easy in the morning that I really like.
Sometimes boring (relaxing) weekends are the very best! Actually, that’s the case most of the time.
I love relaxing weekends, especially after a hectic week! Sometimes being alone is just what I need too! Have a great day!!
That sounds like a fantastic weekend, I am super envious! I love relaxing weekends at home! I can’t remember the last time I was in my own house alone. Maybe soon!
Too funny, when my bf goes away for the weekend I always sing single ladies at work on friday, as if I’m going to have a crazy weekend of partying. Instead I enjoy those weekends getting things done that I have been putting off but relaxing with a book is usually squeezed in there somewhere
hahaha - my weekends are never crazy!
Do I enjoy relaxing weekends??? Uhh…yes. More than almost anything in life. Sorry you didn’t sleep well (story of my life) and glad you got some alone time. Everyone needs that now and again!
Aside…did I read somewhere that you live in the “Lou”? And would your fave gluten-free pizza place also happen to be the name of a Greek letter and mathematical symbol?
I live in the Chicago area - what is the pizza place youw ere referring to?
Oh, ok. There’s a place here called Pi. They also have a gluten-free crust, which I’ve heard is pretty tasty. What’s your place in Chicago called? I make it up that way a few times a year to see my bestie
There’s a place in Chicago called Pi as well - perhaps it’s a chain? I live in the south suburbs, so there is this place called Little Joe’s - their son is GF so they added GF pizza to their menu a few years back!
I love relaxing weekends like this, and it seems like this one was much needed! I had one of these “me” weekends recently and Loved it. Oh, and your pup is just so cute!!
If anyone comments and says they DONT like relaxing weekends, a napping intervention is needed. I love me some sleep, especially when I don’t have any responsibilities the following day. Ah, the sweet smell of laziness
In reality though, I could afford to be a little more “lazy”. I’m always finding a new project or task to check off of my list
My hubby was out of town this weekend too! I relaxed on Saturday by lying on the couch watching HGTV and Food Network shows and then on Sunday by going to a yoga class and taking an afternoon nap on the couch. Aren’t lazy weekends amazing?
Yess! So glad you got to enjoy a relaxing weekend!
I love watching HGTV and Food Network!
Ahhh, so jealous! We had a pretty lazy/relaxed weekend as well…but as relaxed and lazy as you can be with 3 kids!!
I love relaxing weekends! This Friday I will be finished with grad school classes, so this weekend is going to be a relaxing one for me! I’m glad your hubby is home. I hate when my husband goes out of town!
CONGRATS!!!!
oh my goodness
I LOVE relaxing weekends! That was pretty much this weekend or all weekends for me lately actually
Quite nice
Sometimes I love the time my husband is away on business (especially the brief trips). It gives me a chance to relax and have total me time. Your weekend sounds perfect!
