currently read

I know I have my summer reading list I made last month the second I got out of school for the summer. And I’ve been sticking to it — kind of. Sometimes I get sidetracked though. Like when my mom gives me book recommendations. Or when she lets me borrow her kindle (doesn’t matter that I have one of my own…) to read all the books that she has bought for herself (gotta love those moms — so selfless!). So I’ve taken a few detours from the list.

I currently read a few books that I can’t not share with you. They were just that good.

Gone Girl — On their five year anniversary, a husband comes home to find his house ransacked and his wife gone. As with most cases such as this, the husband becomes the main suspect. But did he really harm his wife? This plot is addictive, the characters are not what you think to be at all, there are twists and turns, and it will have you questioning until the end. A true page turner for sure. I flew through this one!

Circle of FriendsI found this book when I was browsing through my library’s online database. I read some reviews of it and decided to give it a go! This book is set in the 1950’s right outside of Dublin. It follows the friendship of Benny, a girl who is smothered by her overbearing parents, and Eve, a orphaned girl raised by nuns. This book completely takes you back in time and immerses you into the friendship of Benny and Eve up through their college years. The first 50 or so pages was kind of slow, and I couldn’t see how all the characters fit together. I’m glad I stuck with it because it picked up and I couldn’t wait to get back to my book each day. It’s a little long, but the entire time I was reading it I couldn’t help but think “I wish there was a movie for this book”. Then I found out… THERE IS! The book is fairly old (1990), and a movie was made in 1995. I’m going to have to watch it — stat!

Blessings — I am actually currently reading this one (and might need to stay up all night to finish it because I got it from my library’s online database — my rental period is up tomorrow!), and I love it. I read Quindlen’s One True Thing as well as Black and Blue a few years ago, and really enjoy her writing. This book follows a young man who works for Lydia Blessing, who is in her 80’s and living in the home she inherited from her family years ago. One night a young couple drop off their baby at Lydia’s estate, which is called “Blessings”. The young man, Charles (aka Skip) finds the baby and is determined to keep her as his own.

And speaking of books, someone a while ago asked me if I could make a “books” tab, and I’ve done just that. Now you can look and see what books I’ve recommended, my reading lists I’ve compiled, etc.

Happy reading!!!
