simple things a through z

August 7, 2012

I’m so late on this – like soooo late. Like a month. But I don’t care. Enjoy this survey I’ve been seeing around the blog world for the last month or so!

A – Almond butter. Believe it or not, but I’m barely a peanut butter fan anymore. Coming from a girl who mourned the fact that she was “supposed” to give up the peanut butter in February, this is big guys. I begrudgingly finished a jar this past week because we had no almond butter.

B – Babies. Love my niece and goddaughter! They’re too cute for words.

C – Charlie. Enough said –he’s my baby.

D – Dancing. I’m a beast on the dance floor. Maybe not in a good way, but I love going to weddings so I can dance for hours even if no one else will dance with me (::ahem:: Husband).

I’m such a creep. Seriously.

E – Eggs, namely organic with omega’s from Trader Joe’s. I didn’t eat eggs for a few years (it’s in that vegetarian “gray” area), but I’m glad I started to again. Although make sure you eat organic ones, guys – my mom found an article about this the other day. Gross.

F – Family. Mine’s the best.

G – Groceries! I love shopping for groceries every week. It’s honestly one of my favorite activities. I’ve gotten some flack from others before about how I’m a grandma for this, but I don’t care. Sorry I’m not sorry.

H – Heat. I love the summer, and I love the heat outside. What I don’t love is when it’s over 100 degrees like it has been too many times this summer. No thank you.

I – Iced Coffee. Ugggghhh, the obsession ensues. How do I make it stop? How?!?!?!

J – John! (the Husband) I’m seriously surprised at how he can even deal with my ridiculousness on a daily basis. He’s a saint.

K – Ketchup. I’m one of those weird people that put it on everything – EVERYTHING. Last week my brother watched me dip roasted broccoli into ketchup, and I’m pretty sure he almost puked.

L – LOFT. If I could afford to buy out that store, I probably would. It helps I get a 15% discount for being a teacher.

M – Mama. You tell me who doesn’t still need their Mama every day even as an adult. I don’t know what I’d do without mine.

N – Naps. There is nothing better than a 20 minute power nap in the afternoon!

O - “online” friends. You all are the best.

P – Planning. I know that the majority of life CANNOT be planned, but the Type A in me wants to plan out every situation and possible outcome I come across. #freak

Q – Quiet Time. I HAVE to unwind every single day with a book in my hand, the lights down low, and the TV at a level where I can’t hear it from the bedroom.

R – Running. While I don’t do as much of it these days, it will still be my #1 form of exercise!

S – Starbuck’s. ::sigh::

T – Trader Joe’s. I don’t know how people live without them.

U – University Classes. Okay, this was a stretch, but I love to learn, and I’m a freak for being insanely excited to head back to classes this fall. Talk to me later when I’m trying to pump out a paper late at night when I want to sleep and I might say otherwise.

V – Vacations. There’s nothing like them – I’m all about “living under your means” so you can go out and have fun doing things. Each year since we’ve been married, we’ve made it a priority to go somewhere!

W – Water. I am more than certain I drink at least a gallon every single day. No wonder I go to the bathroom every hour (at least).

X – Xerox Machine. Another stretch, but can you imagine life without printers/copiers? I would just die.

Y – Yoga, which reminds me I have NOT done enough in the past few weeks! I need to get on that.

Z – Zebras? I have no clue. Are there other words out there that start with “Z”?

Question: Pick your own letter and tell me one of your favorite “simple things”!

I also love grocery shopping and dipping veggies in ketchup! Personal question: why were you supposed to give up peanut butter?

My acupuncturist recommended it while we are trying to conceive - I don’t remember the exact reason!

I am totally a grandma also then - I love grocery shopping!
B is for books. I love reading and just finished another one yesterday. Today I’ll be starting I am Legend (I never saw the movie).

N- nectarines. Uber obsessed with nectarines this summer. Cut one up with plain yogurt and homemade granola and I am in heaven.

I don’t just have an obsession with iced coffee, but with Starbucks in general. Make it stop!! I wish I could appreciate almond butter, but I’m such a peanut butter lover. I’m not sure how to make the switch, but I assume I’m the only person on the planet who doesn’t really like almond butter. There. I said it.

Ugh, I know. There’s just something about going into Starbuck’s that makes me feel wonderful.

I never thought I’d see the day when coffee took a back seat for this teacher- but for some reason, baby does NOT do well with coffee. I’ll puke within minutes. Gosh, I must really love this little one to let go of the coffee for over nine months.
I love getting the 15% discount for being a teacher because buying clothes for teaching is EXPENSIVE!— if only I could find a shoe store that would do that because the teaching shoes are just as important in my book! :)

Reply

Shelby August 8, 2012 at 1:05 pm

New York and company just started a shoe line, and they do teacher discounts. I am not sure how teacher friendly the shoes are however, I haven’t checked them out yet.

Ugh, those baby cheeks and bows…I’m DYING.

Also, I still use my teacher discount. Is that cheating?

Danica @ It's Progression August 7, 2012 at 8:54 am

I love grocery shopping too! I even like the part of planning out the week’s meals and making lists-my family thinks I’m nuts but my husband is thankful for it-we get exactly what we need and probably save quite a bit of money in the long run.

Reply

Amy August 7, 2012 at 9:18 am

I’m impressed that you didn’t cheat on x and z! I couldn’t do it, haha.

I will go with L and say lunch dates. These are one of the best things about being a teacher in the summer. :)

WOW! Aside from Charlie for C I fell like we are the same person! I totally feel you on the almond butter front. While PB is nice to go back to here and there for nostalgia it is ALL about almond butter!

S- Sunflower Seed Butter… the love of my life lately :)

Reply

christina August 7, 2012 at 9:48 am

I put ketchup on peas one time. It was interesting. But I put it on everything too. Why not? And woohoo for LOFT! Jealous of your discount. Over 75% of my closet is from LOFT.

And I love grocery shopping too. I’m going this afternoon and I’m actually excited about it haha.

I wish we lived close so we could spend hours walking around the grocery. I often get picked on because shopping (for food, not clothes, mind you) is my happy place!
And please give Charlie and scratch behind the ears from me. Sweet pup!

B: Ballet, of course;) I can’t imagine living without ballet; dancing in my pointe shoes brings me so much joy and happiness-cheesy as that may sound! Oh, and I am glad you have discovered the culinary delights of almond butter; I definitely prefer it to peanut butter now!!

Reply

Jen@HealthyFoodandFamily August 7, 2012 at 6:58 pm

I love grocery shopping, it’s my favorite day of the week! Unless I have to take all 3 kids with me, at that point it’s like being followed by a trail of sharks looking for something to eat every 5 seconds.

I agree with almost all of your answers! Almond butter has been a win lately, I can’t really stomach peanut butter. Its so weird, but its just not my thing. I used to hate AB, but I’m seriously loving it more and more lately.
Coffee, oh my gosh. I can’t stop my addiction? Seriously, how do we stop this? I don’t think its possible at this point.
And my mama obviously is in this survey. Duh!
This makes me sad I have no TJ’s close to me!

Reply

Lisa August 8, 2012 at 8:52 am

I’m more of a sunflower seed butter lover. Can’t put that darn jar down! : P

And I can’t agree with you more on Trader Joe’s. I prefer TJ hands down compared to Whole Foods. WF just has way too many options and I always leave that place empty-handed.

Diane @ life of di. August 8, 2012 at 11:29 am

I love Trader Joe’s too :) You never know what you might find and the prices are so much better. I see you have iced coffee on your list too - I can’t believe I’m admitting this but I actually haven’t had one yet this summer. I need to get on that, not too much longer until summer is over!

Gina @ Health Love and Chocolate August 9, 2012 at 12:08 am

I am definitely a peanut to almond butter convert as well!

Oh girl have no shame about your ketchup addiction. I will & do put it on everything. I know it sound gross, but I love ketchup even on my salads as dressing! It’s so delicious :)
