This is the post where I whine and complain about how I want to live on vacation all year round, have people deliver free alcoholic beverages to my pool chair, and never have to worry about what’s for dinner because someone’s already made it for you. That’d be the life, wouldn’t it?
About a week and a half ago, the Husband and I packed up our bags, said goodbye (::tear::) to our pup, and headed back to one of our favorite places — Riviera Maya, Mexico. The last time we were there was our honeymoon, and we loved the resort we stayed at so much that we decided to go back there a second time!
The resort was the Secrets Capri, and I’ve already written a lot about it from my honeymoon posts that you can find on the travel page.
the husband and I need a king sized bed at home to maintain a good marriage.
We were pleasantly surprised on the first day that our favorite employee still worked there at the buffet restaurant! Two years ago he went out of his way to make sure I had everything I needed (and even went and bought soy milk for me at the market after work so I could drink coffee), so we were so excited to see Mario again. We also talked about how we really liked going to the same place again because we already knew where everything was and what to expect. It was nice to not spend four days trying to figure out the resort only to leave in the next few days.
What made this vacation even more special was the fact that the Husband’s brother and sister in law were joining us.
Kevin and Dani live in Baltimore, so we don’t see them too often — and Dani is sporting a baby bump, so I was more than excited to get a good glimpse of my new niece who is expected to arrive mid-November.
To be perfectly honest with you, I barely took any pictures. I think I uploaded 50 of them? I just couldn’t bring myself to take pictures of the same things I took pictures of two years previously, so I ended up with very few.The weather was absolutely beautiful while we were there, so every day was more or less the same while we were there — wake up at a leisurely time, eat breakfast, lay by the pool, eat lunch, lay by the pool, take a nap, take a shower/get ready, go get dinner, watch a show, go to bed.
And I loved every single second of it. Some of those days included a workout (yes, I’m one of those people…), one of those days included an amazing snorkeling excursion (I’ll tell you more about that later) — but overall, it was a glorious week of relaxing and catching up with my husband and family.
the only picture I have of the Husband and me on vacation
The entire time we were there, there were weather reports of a possible hurricane stopping by to visit on our second to last day. Unfortunately, Ernesto did make an appearance, but it wasn’t too bad.
On our second to last day there, we woke up to cloudy skies, a lot of wind, and some short spurts of rain. That lasted until (of course) the second we left. By the time we were boarding the plane, it was nothing but sunshine. It made for a boring last few days, I’m not going to lie. If I can’t lay in the sun, my thinking is that I should be doing something productive with my life. I was also nervous we would get delayed going home, but that wasn’t the case at all.
I’m planning on doing another post about the excursion we did as well as the books that I read while we were there. Thanks to the Husband for agreeing on going on vacation this year! I had such a good time!

haha they are few and far in between! The Husband doesn’t like being in pictures!
sounds like a wonderful vacation! I just posted about the resort we stayed at last week for our 5 year anniversary - ah, I like that idea of living on vacation year-round
I’ll have to go check it out!
Ahhh!! I am leaving for Mexico in 6 days..you’re making me so excited! Your view was beautiful!
Oooh! Have fun! Where are you staying?
Cabo!
Looks beautiful - no wonder you want to go back!! And everyone needs a little break from pictures (and blogging) for awhile…
Agreed!
Ah, I am SOOO excited to go to Rivera Maya in October. Seriously, I am going to stalk your recap posts.
PS- I have that pink dress and LOVE it as a bathing suit cover up.
So glad you had a wonderful trip!
He went and bought you soy milk for your coffee- that is service! …..That is the only picture you go of you and the husband on vacation- it is totally desk worthy- VERY cute!
that resort looks beautiful! I am so jealous of your vacation! I agree with you, when there is bad weather on vacation I wish I could be doing something with my time, but luckily it didn’t affect your trip until the very end!
Looks like a great vacation (minus the couple of rainy days)! Great picture of the two of you guys, very cute!!
Your schedule of waking up, being leisurely, eating, repeating all day long until bed and doing it again the next day sounds perfect.
And what a great one-and-only pic of you two!
Glad you had great weather (mostly!)
I love that photo of you and John! You look be-a-utiful!
I can’t get over the fact that the boy went and got you soy milk.. how sweet!!! I’m so glad the four of you had such a wonderful vacation. It’s always nice to get away for a little bit <3
That’s a wonderful picture of you & your husband!
I have always heard such good things about Riviera Maya, Mexico! No vacations for us this year (since we bought a house!) but Mexico is definitely on my to-visit list!
I hope you had a nice and RELAXING time! Gotta get that in before school starts!
That looks so relaxing! I love the colors!!
That sounds like a great vacation! I bet was it fun to revisit the place where you honeymooned
.
what a cute pic of you two! i want to be a professional vacationer. that would be the life!
My husband and I love to travel and just got back from Mexico on Saturday. Our transport van dropped people off at your resort. We went to Catalonia Royal Tulum. Everything was beautiful…but we both got very sick. As beautiful as Mexico was it makes me scared to try anywhere else in Mexico.
That’s a great picture of the two of you!!
It sounds like you really got in some much needed relaxation! Glad you enjoyed it:)
Although, how could you not?! It looks beautiful!
Sounds like a great vacation - relax, lay out, eat, repeat. Perfect.
SUCH a great picture of you and your husband!! Glad you enjoyed your trip!
Okay, this is too funny. I knew you were in Mexico, but I didn’t realize where you were staying! My friends Rachel and Steve who just got married were down at the same resort! They were there July 16-23 though, so you just missed each other…not like you’d know anyways
The resort looks beautiful! Sounds like you guys had a great time!
So fun!!! My husband and I went to Marco Island, Florida last year on vacation, and we loved it so much, that I think we might go again this year over Christmas break. So I definitely understand. When you find a place you love, you want to keep going back for more!
Aww sorry about the rain! I never know what to do with myself when it rains on vacation… it seems like such a waste to just sit inside and read. But at least it was only for the last few days! The rest of your trip in the sunshine must have been amazing. And the resort looks great from what I can tell from the pictures! I’m glad you guys had fun!
That looks BEAUTIFUL! Glad you had a good time and that you could go back; I wish my husband and I could go back to St. Croix where we went on our honeymoon! Maybe someday!
You may only have 1 pic of you and your hubby, but what a good one it is!! So glad you had a wonderful time
Looks like such a beautiful, fun place to be! Glad you had a great time.
