fun facts friday

March 8, 2013

1. Three cheers for Friday!!! This week has gone pretty fast considering I was pretty bored at work before of standardized testing. I rejoiced yesterday afternoon when I actually got to teach the entire afternoon. I was so sick of sitting at my desk! My kids’ favorite part of the afternoon? Talking about one of our vocabulary words for our reading story this next week – mucus. You want funny? Get fifth graders to talk about boogers.

2. Speaking of standardized tests being over, I just feel so much better about life when they’re done. Not because I stress out about them at all, but because it signifies the down slope to the end of the school year. We only have TEN weeks left. That’s crazy! Yesterday we changed seats, cleaned the classroom, and opened the windows up to let some fresh air in. It felt good.

3. Done with teaching talk. Maybe.

4. Yesterday I tried the Chocolate Protein Macro Bar for the first time. Aaaaand I’m going to be honest – I wasn’t a fan. I ate it because I was starving, but it definitely wasn’t my favorite. I won’t be eating one again. Sorry Macro Bars, maybe another one of your flavors will wow me.

5. Who’s excited a few 50 degree days are in the 10 day forecast?!?! I love snow, but I am so ready for spring. I’d rather be walking Charlie outside in the fresh air than walking on the treadmill at the gym. It would make my life so much better.

6. You know what also makes me feel better? Highlights. Holy cow – I needed them so so bad. I don’t think I had gotten my hair highlighted since early November. It was bad.

7. I’m getting so excited for berry season. Recently they’ve actually tasted okay despite not being quite in season. I bought a pint of delicious blueberries last week (and they were eaten in about one sitting) and the Husband bought some strawberries last night. He was a little bit upset to find me scarfing down on his strawberries (for his smoothies) last night after dinner. I just can’t help myself!

8. After writing this post (Thursday night), I have a loooooong road of folding laundry ahead of me. It’s bad guys. You should see the guest room. The basket is full and so is the bed. I wish I would just learn and fold the clothes right when they come out of the dryer. After I fold it all (and maaaybe put it away), I’m rewarding myself with the juiciest pineapple ever. Sounds about right.

9. It’s the weekend – Happy Friday!!!!

Happy Weekend!
I’m the same about folding laundry. I don’t mind washing it-and I hang everything on a drying rack (except sheets and towels). Then clean laundry sits in a basket for about a week until I finally fold and put it away!

haha - for me, it’s been two weeks. Honestly. I’m the worst.

This week has actually flown by for me, and trust me, I am not complaining!!

I am beyond ready for some warmer weather this weekend (yay!), and I am totally ready for Spring/Summer for the simple reason of wanting more produce to be in season. I am obsessed with raspberries, blueberries, and strawberries, and I have found that lately they have tasted okay, but not amazing! I am ready for amazing berries. I am also ready to not have to pay $4 for a small container of raspberries!

Happy Friday! :)

I can only imagine how boring it would be to watch your kids taking tests instead of actually doing something.

I’m definitely ready for spring too.

So boring! I’m glad it’s over!

I’m so excited for berry season. I bought some blueberries a few weeks ago and they were absolutely tasteless - here’s hoping they’re getting better!

i wonder what highlights would look like in my dark hair? hmm

You don’t have to go blonde - you could get a caramel or a red. It would look cute!!!

Oh, the joys of fifth grade. You deserve some kind of medal of honor for teaching pre-pubescent tweens. For real. I remember my entire fifth grade year being so dramatized- I was SO over the top dramatic.

Reply

cleaneatingchelsey March 10, 2013 at 4:27 pm

haha they are so much fun! It’s really not toooo bad. We have some drama queens, but not too many. ;) They get worse by the springtime but then we send them off to middle school! ;)

I feel like a total dork for saying it but I’m totally psyched for berry season too. That first perfectly ripe strawberry, ahhh can’t wait for it. Plus they’re so much cheaper when they’re in season!

haha if you’re a dork, then I’m a dork!

So excited for spring and ready to go berry picking!! I am pretty sure I forget about my laundry and leave it in the dryer every time. It never takes as long as I think but I always dread folding it.

I am also ready for long summer days filled with watermelon, pineapple, mango…but mainly peaches. I have just been craving juicy peaches and nectarines lately! woohoo

Happy Friday!

I HAVE to finish folding things today. I swear, my laundry never ends.

I hear you on berry season! And you always remind me of how soon summer will be here with the number of weeks left in the school year. Ten more Monday mornings for you! Crazy :)

I don’t find folding laundry to be that bad, actually? I am a weirdo. But I HATE unloading the dishwasher. hate it.

Reply

cleaneatingchelsey March 10, 2013 at 4:29 pm

It’s horrible. You’re delusional. ;)

And I don’t have a dishwasher, so I can’t lament with you on that one!

I can’t believe it’s Friday already, this week has flown by…and so has this school year! I have a 5th grader and he brought home scheduling worksheets for middle school, not gonna lie, I shed some tears. I can’t believe he is done with elementary school already.

Have a great weekend :)

haha - too funny! We just got our transition papers (we have to fill out a lot of paper work on each kid and what class they should be placed in/their personalities/etc.). We’re on the downhill slope!

Ony 10 weeks?! I think we’ve got a little bit more than that. Once we hit fourth quarter, I feel so much better about life.

Reply

cleaneatingchelsey March 10, 2013 at 4:31 pm

haha! When is your last day of school? I definitely did not count the week of spring break in there!

Reply

Sharla March 8, 2013 at 6:15 pm

I used to fold all the laundry then leaving it setting in the basket for days…now I avoid folding it altogether - what is so awful about laundry?? haha

Reply

cleaneatingchelsey March 10, 2013 at 4:32 pm

I don’t know. I guess I should just get over it and fold it already!

I love the teacher stories….and it sounds so familiar to me since all my close friends (and sister-in-law) are teachers. So sorry to report…. it will be 70 in Augusta, GA tomorrow! I can’t wait! Ready for spring too! And…. your laundry life sounds like mine. Laundry…. all weekend!!! :) Thanks for the post! :)

Amber K March 8, 2013 at 9:50 pm

Having super dark hair I’ve never had highlights. Okay, I tried it once but they all turned way too red. No thanks! Guess I’ll just have to update my look some other way!

Reply

cleaneatingchelsey March 10, 2013 at 4:33 pm

Have you tried caramel highlights?

Reply

Amber K March 10, 2013 at 7:46 pm

Oh yeah. When I dye my hair, it doesn’t seem to matter if I use a color with “ash” in the title or not. My hair will always veer towards red/orange. I had to bleach my hair to dye it blonde when I was a teen, because even though I have dark brown hair the red undertones are STRONG! Probably because my entire extended family is a bunch of redheads!

Gosh, all the laundry! I am in the same boat and then some. I just landed a mid-year teaching job (whoohoo!) and my short-lived housewife routine is now over. Grateful for the job, but I wish all the housework would just disappear. =)

Kristen @ notsodomesticated March 9, 2013 at 6:29 am

Highlights definitely make me feel better, too. Unfortunately, my hair is growing SO fast these days, that I swear it looks bad just a few weeks later! I got mine done about a month ago, and I feel like it already looks like poo. Bummer!

We have a predicted high of 60 for tomorrow! Seeing that we were hit pretty hard with snow/sleet/slush on Tuesday night I am extra excited about this. Come on spring (and then summer ;-) )

Jessica @ Prayers and Apples March 9, 2013 at 11:14 am

Highlights make me so happy too! It’s this constant war I have with myself… my hair is super dark, so I highlight it… then i highlight it some more… then i dye it back dark (which is where i am now)… and then within a couple weeks I start missing my highlights again *SIGH* i’ve been doing this since jr high! haha :)

I’m going into teaching (I’m in my last year at university) and standardized testing is the one thing I’m most dreading. I’m glad yours are over and you’ll be able to get back to teaching!

Reply

cleaneatingchelsey March 10, 2013 at 4:23 pm

They’re not that bad as long as you don’t make them your sole focus the entire year and “teach to the test”. We honestly never mention ISATs once until the week before we take them. The kids instantly freak out for about a minute until we tell them everything they learned this year will help them. We NEVER make a big deal about them.

I LOVE so much about your blog.
1. That you’re a teacher
2. That you reward yourself with fruit like I do (I also follow you on instagram/twitter) :)
3. You live in Chicago (I’m originally from Wisconsin).
4. You teach my favorite grade :)

SO glad I found your blog.

I’m so jealous. Our testing isn’t until the middle of April. I am so sick of hearing about it and prepping. It’s so stressful and I just want it to be over! Sounds like your year ends a lot earlier than mine.
