scenes from the weekend

June 16, 2014

Good morning everyone! I hope everyone had a great weekend and a great Father’s Day. I know John enjoyed getting to sleep in a little and then spending the day with his girls. But before we talk about that, let’s back up just a little bit and talk about the rest of the weekend.

I’m not sure why I get so excited talking about the weekends during the summer. My entire life is a weekend during the summer – maybe it’s because there’s a little more family time (and more arms) on the weekend.

On Friday, I hung out with the girls all day, and we started a project for John. Just like about a million other people, I took photos of the girls with the letters DAD to be put in a picture frame. I’ll show you the finished project at the end of the post, but here are a few of my favorite “bloopers”. 9 month olds are HARD to photograph.

Emerson was cracking me up during this. Girlfriend would not sit still to save her life. I also (finally) took their 9 month pictures, and the ones I tried to take with the two of them together were almost laughable.

We also had pizza for dinner. There are no pictures from that. It was a really relaxing night, and I stayed up way too late binge watching Orange is the New Black on Netflix (anyone else a fan?). After I hit “publish” on this post (Sunday night), I am finishing up the last episode. Why oh why do I binge watch these things? I have no self control at all.

The first part of Saturday was just a normal day. The girls and I hung out at home, I got some work done while they were napping, and we took a long walk after their nap. We stopped by the park to make sure we could get some swing time in as well.

Brooklyn loves the swing, and she gets the biggest smile on her face when she is at the park. Emerson basically tolerates it. They both had fun this time though because they were in the same swing!

While the girls were napping in the afternoon, I finished prepping John’s Father’s Day gift, and I got ready for a night out with my bestie, Kim! We bought tickets to the Rascal Flatts concert months ago, and I was so excited to finally go. I’ve been a Rascal Flatts fan since high school and have only seen them in concert one other time a long while ago.

We had fun singing and dancing, and I was convinced they did not play long enough for my liking. It was a late night, but a fun one!

I didn’t get into bed until 12:30, and right when I got into bed Brooklyn woke up crying. I’m not a “cry it out” in the middle of the night mama – I’ve tried, and I just can’t… especially because I don’t want her to wake her sister up. I went into their room, scooped her up, and we snuggled on the couch for about a half hour. When I put her down, she was still awake, but she went right back to sleep when I put her back into her crib. She just needed some mama time. ;)

I finally fell asleep around 1:30, and the girls were up and at ‘em at 5:30. I let them play in their cribs for a half hour before I rolled out of bed at 6, making sure I was quiet so I didn’t wake up John on his special day. He works so hard, and he deserved an extra hour! Once he woke up, the girls gave him his present.

We went to church at 9, and our pastor interviewed former Chicago Bears player Mike Singletary. It was pretty good! After, we went off to John’s parents’ house for lunch and to hang out with the family. The girls took a solid two hour nap once we got there (woohoo), and they woke up just in time for lunch. After some family time, we headed home around 3.

The rest of the day consisted of playing with the girls.

They were incredibly tired and crabby, so after early baths, it was an early bedtime. Both of them were asleep within seconds of being put to bed. It was a busy day!

I’ll be back tomorrow with the girls’ 9 month update (a few weeks late –whoops!)

Question: How did you celebrate Father’s Day? Or, what was the highlight of your weekend?

The girls keep getting more and more adorable with each passing day. I seriously can not handle it most times. :)

I did the same thing with the letters “DAD” for my husband. It was so hard to get my 11 month old to sit still :)

I LOVE the gift! So adorable! My highlight this weekend was playing soccer with my dad for the first time in months. It was just a random, lets-go-kick-the-ball kind of thing and even though it was super hot, it was awesome to spend time with him!

I LOVE how the “DAD” photo turned out! Adorable idea, especially with both of the girls holding the “A”! And how fun that you got to go to the Rascal Flatts concert! I’m sure it was a blast and having a night out anywhere is always a nice little reprieve. ;)
