I have never been too big on Halloween. Yes, when I was younger I loved it. But for the past 10-12 years, it hasn’t been all too exciting.
Boy oh boy how two little girls can change my opinion about things!
I love how holidays are now so much fun. As a parent, I now get to re-live all of the excitement that holidays bring through the girls. So. Much. Fun.
The weather in Chicago was horrible on Friday evening. Actually, it was horrible all day long. On my way to work it was snowing. SNOWING! I do remember Halloweens where it snowed when I was younger, so this wasn’t too surprising to me. I was just glad I bought the heavy warm costumes! It was cold, windy, and only in the lower 40’s all day. Yuck. I even saw a news report later in that day that shared it was so windy that there were 28-30 foot waves crashing into and flooding Lake Shore Drive in the city. What a mess!
That didn’t stop us from dressing up the girls and going to a few houses though! Emerson was dressed up as a flower, and Brooklyn dressed up as a bumble bee. I was a little nervous all week about Emerson’s costume for two reasons. The first one being I had to cut the back of her headpiece because it wouldn’t fit over her head, and the second one being she HATED wearing it. She cried every single time we tried to put it on her. I guess the excitement of the holiday (ha – I’m sure she had a lot of excitement about it at 14 months) made her forget all about it because she wore it like a champ all night!
We stopped by a few neighbors’ houses before we packed up the girls to bring them to go see my aunt and then to go see their grandma. Since my mom was watching the girls on Friday, she was able to see them and go out with us before she swung by to see Queen Elsa (aka: Aubrey) on her way home.
I can’t wait until the girls continue to grow and we can watch them enjoy these special holidays for themselves. It will make it all the more special!
