What’s that out my front window? Do I live in a corn field?
No, not so much. However, I did ask the Husband to go out and find me the following: hay bales, mums, and corn stalks to help our curb appeal appear a bit more… fall like.
He sure did deliver. Last night when he was unloading this on to the front porch, I did a stupid thing and asked him where he got the corn stalks from. He smiled at me, and that could mean only one thing… he pilfered them from poor farmer’s field. When in doubt… just don’t ask. What would they have done with this anyways, right?
One thing you must know about the Husband is that he’s Dutch — which means he is automatically very frugal. He will find any way to shmooze or get a bargain or a deal. I suppose this was just another one of his schemes. Hey, I probably would have dished out $10 a stalk. The Husband? $0. Perfection.
This morning (after a very fitful night of sleep) I got out of bed and really wanted to make some pumpkin pancakes. Unfortunately, my stomach and heart really wanted a nice piping hot bowl of oats. Since I didn’t want to end up disappointed after breakfast, I went with the oats.
This morning I also incorporated TJ’s pumpkin buttah into my coffee. It gave it a little kick! I liked it a lot better than my pumpkin mush at the end of my coffee like the other day.
After breakfast, I had a list about a mile high of things I needed to accomplish this morning. So, I got ready and was about to head out the door when I noticed my vision was a little blurry. It was a little funny to me since I had put my contacts in. Low and behold, one of the little buggers escaped from my eye without me knowing. Just imagine the Husband and myself crawling around on the floor and me screaming, “I DON’T HAVE ANY MORE CONTACTS LEFT!” for all the neighbors to hear. It was not a pretty sight.
After about 5 minutes of frustrated searching, I gave up and put on the glasses.
I hate wearing my glasses. Don’t even tell me I look cute. I don’t care if I look cute — I really dislike wearing them. I associate wearing my glasses with going to bed since that is the only time I ever wear them. Thus, every time I wear my glasses, I am always really sleepy throughout the day. Yes, it is all psychological. No, I can’t get over it.
There you go. A happy picture — mainly because I am on my way to the eye doctor’s office to pick up a couple of more boxes. Nothing says procrastination quite like my life, I’ll tell ya.
This morning, I had a lot on my plate. I was gone from about 8 a.m until around 1 p.m. and actually accomplished quite a lot:
- Visited my parent’s house to show them my car — got Chagall all riled up because I haven’t visited for a while.
- Went to the Farmer’s Market with Mommasita ($25 for a crapton of fruits and veggies — no I don’t have a picture. I’m lazy)
- Went to Target and found a dress for a wedding (at Target?!?) a long sleeved shirt, and a pair of jeans…. and maybe a welcome mat and an area rug.
The thing about these jeans is that I can never find jeans… EVER. I have a hate/hate relationship with jeans. I hate shopping for them and they hate fitting me. It’s really quite complex. I can honestly say that I have not bought a pair of jeans that actually have fit me perfectly since I bought a pair from American Eagle when I was a sophomore in college (and yes, I still wear them… and am wearing them right now). So, when I put these magical pants on and they automatically fit, I didn’t care what the price was (even if they were just $25), I needed to buy them stat.
While I was out, I was glad I had a trunkful of fruits and veggies, and I found this apple to tide me over.
Oh yes, back to the errands… after Target, I:
- went to Trader Joe’s to get some pantry staples
- went to the eye doctor to pick up contacts
- went to Wal-mart to buy some more things (I could possibly avoid Wal-mart if I didn’t have the husband… but let’s face it, some of his staples are just cheaper there)
- went to Jewel to buy some GF flour
Yes, I basically went to four places to buy my weekly groceries today. I’m okay with it if you are.
When I got home, I was more than hungry, so I whipped up a fast lunch as I wanted to get my bake-a-thon going in the kitchen.
SCENE 1:
SCENE 2:
I like scene two better — I have an afternoon of baking, cleaning, and possibly running going on around here. Is it just me or when something goes wrong, cooking/baking make everything better?
I’m just going to leave you with this:
and be back later with many many delicious recipes!
Question: Do you ever not eat what you’re craving and regret it later?

Ok, phew, you got your contacts!! I have a little contact story myself…while I was living in Australia last winter, one of my precious contacts ripped while I was trying to put it in…of course that was my last pair of contacts, as I was waiting for new ones to come in the mail from my mom. I knew I wouldn’t be able to wait until the package came, so I fake printed a prescription off the internet, took it to the closest eye doctor and got an emergency box of contacts (that cost a fortune, but well worth it). There was no way I could wear glasses for more than a day!
I have a question for you! So you do all your grocery shopping on the weekend to last you the week…do you have everything already planned for the week ahead? Or just work with what you get? Happy baking!
That is HILARIOUS!! You’re kind of a felon.
I plann EVERYTHING out for the week. With work, I don’t have enough time to not plan. I plan about 4-5 meals per week and 2-3 baked goods. Then I do some prep work on Saturdays or Sundays. It takes a little bit of effort, I won’t lie!
I’ll do a post about it sometime!
I am busy just reading this! Looks like you got a lot accomplished, though
And I’v gotta say…I almost laughed out loud, imagining your hubs sleuthing through hayfields just to decorate your house. Too funny! haha.
I can’t wait for the recipes!! I agree, cooking and baking definitely relaxes me, too.
Awesome post! I love the hay bales with the flowers!
That is SO funny about your husband stealing the corn stalk! I’m sure the farmer isn’t going to miss it or anything.
I can relate to your jean troubles! It’s absolutely impossible for me to find good jeans for my 5″0 height! Lately I’ve started shopping in the H&M kids section… and even those are too long on me!
So I definitely understand your excitement at finding a pair that fits well. And at an awesome price too!
Sigh. FINE, then. I won’t comment that you look cute in your glasses.
BUT you look superdy-duperdy cute in your jeans (target is awesome-sauce), your scarf, your new car (yay!)….and *ahem..mumble* your glasses.

I’m the same way about my glasses - I hate them and don’t care if I look “cute” because in my mind I don’t. They’re such a pain in the ass too. Which reminds me that I should order more since I’m halfway through my last box. Do you use dailies?
Looks like a good day!
It’s funny that when you have glasses you hate them…I have never had glasses and have always wanted them. I guess if I was forced to wear them maybe I would not like it either.
Baking makes everything better
I love American Eagle jeans. I’ve had so many pairs from there that I wore till they had holes! I’m usually proud of myself for not eating what I’m craving as it’s usually mass amounts of nuts and chocolate ha ha
I love the target jeans. What is the name of them?
I know you don’t want to hear it because I don’t either, but you DO look cute with your glasses on.
Try Paige Jeans…they are basically a mortgage payment but they are worth it. Nothing else fits me like they do!!
