christmas cleansing

December 26, 2010

Did anyone else wake up this morning feeling exhausted and to your tongue swelling from the amount of sugar you consumed on Christmas? Perhaps your house was in such a disarray with the amount of presents overtaking every inch of table space and your entire guest room? You could also have still had some dishes in the sink from yesterday’s cooking, yet when you got home you were just. too. tired. to. do. one. more. thing.

Just me? You all must be super heroes or something.

Between the new dog, our first Christmas, cooking, and 4 Christmas parties (with another one tomorrow by the way), this morning I woke up ready to do some serious mind, body, and soul cleansing.

Really, that’s just a fancy way for me to say “I’m going on a run, I’m eating lots of veggies, and I’m going to sit around and do nothing all day”.

But everything sounds better when said fancy-shcmancy right?

Body Cleansing: Breakfast.

What do you mean you thought I got a new camera so my pictures shouldn’t be fuzzy anymore? Can’t a girl get her artsy side on?

Pumpkin oatmeal topped with grilled bananas, leftover cinnamon rolls (shhhh… I know, cleansing, right?), coconut, and peanut butter.

I could not let leftover cinnamon rolls go to waste. You just don’t understand.

Or maybe you do…

I’m pretty sure I was still stuffed to the brim from yesterday as I wasn’t really that hungry AND I was super stuffed after breakfast, but it was just so good cleansing for my body.

Mind Cleansing: Running

Can you believe I have not run outside in a long time? Probably since before Thanksgiving. I’m a baby when it comes to the cold and well, it’s dark outside by the time I get home at night. Running before school just makes my life easier, so my running tights and earmuffs have been stowed away in our front hall closet for a while.

Today though, I was ready to get bronchitis feel the cold air whipping through my face and into my lungs.

My new shoes from Mommasita and Dad (why doesn’t he have a fun nickname?) came in handy.

My old Asics were really hurting me, inserts and all. They made it through TWO half marathons and for the past 3 months. That’s really bad. I got my old ones in April – 8 months for a pair of running shoes? Who am I?

Below is a test to see if I could take a picture of myself with the Rebel. It turned out well… minus the fresh faced’ness and headband circa 1984 from Mommasita (that I’m pretty sure I stole from her. I’ll be getting a phone call later).

A 4.5 mile run through neighborhood streets so I wouldn’t get run over by skittish winter drivers? Very cleansing for the mind.

Body Cleansing: Lunch

After my run all I wanted was veggies. veggies. and well, more veggies. I have not wanted veggies so badly since the day all I wanted was roasted veggies for dinner. After being sick this past week, vegetables were not on my front burner. I am so glad that changed.

A giant green salad topped with hummus was on the menu.

I also ate the very last bowl ::tear:: of butternut squash and carrot soup. That was hands down the best soup I’ve ever made.

Soul Cleansing: photography lessons

I sat down on the couch after lunch to read up on Ashley’s photography posts to learn a little about my new camera. I’m determined NOT to use automatic settings with my new baby (I feel like I should name her something – Roxy the Rebel?).

It’s true – and if I were in real photography school, I’d be in kindergarten right now.

I started playing around in manual.

Too dark….

Woah! Too bright…

Meh.. we’re getting there!

Subject #2 – my phone.

Too dark…

So much better!

I obviously have so much to learn about the different terms and how they all work, but my goal is to work through it. The good thing about a DSLR is that the pictures you screw up can be sent to the trash with one little click. However, I haven’t been throwing anything away quite yet because I have been studying the different settings and how they affect the pictures.

You can say it – I’m such a scholar.

Mind Cleansing: Reading

I got through about 5 pages before Charlie tried to jump on me and give me a hug. Seriously, this pup needs to learn he is not a lap dog.

The cleansing is just beginning – I’m off to look for more wholesome food and will be enjoying my evening in the company of my in laws playing some games.

Let’s hope my laughing tonight doesn’t end in any more bodily cleansing. Tears are welcome, pee is not….

Question: Have you done any post Christmas cleansing?

Before I forget - LOVE, LOVE a heartbreaking work of staggering genius. And I love you even more for making me remember that ;)
But I love you even more (am I creepy yet?) for being bound and determined to master your dSLR sans automatic settings. There is wayyyy too much for that camera to offer to just be thrown on automatic and snapping away! You will be very glad you mastered it from the beginning in a week or so. After that, it’ll be second nature ;)

No, not creepy at all. I knew you would be proud of me!

I haven’t done a post of cleansing, but the husband and I did wake up and drink green monsters with more spinach than usual! We needed to get our bodies feeling back to normal!

I have been eating lots of veggies & other wholesome foods since I’ve consumed my body weight in desserts these past few days :)

P.S- Charlie is sooo cute! Congrats on the new addition to the family :)

I got the EOS - Love it so far! I have had a lot of fun playing around with it. I learn by doing though, so I have to experiment!

I love the way you compiled this list of cleansing. (Found your site today through Snacking Squirrel.)

For the last few days I’m been drinking a cup of plain, hot water before and after meals to aid digestion, and to stay warm in the cold and snow.

cleaneatingchelsey December 26, 2010 at 9:48 pm

That’s a great idea! I usually drink tea in the evening that aides in digestion as well!

Oh goodness, I did wake up feeling heavy and did the same thing you did. Oatmeal for breakfast. Why is it that we always avert to oatmeal after a major sugar fest? You’d think I would go for something less sweet, like eggs. But no, no, oatmeal is what I crave always.
I also noticed how heavy I felt at the gym today. So worth it, but I’m really to get back to normal this week.

Girl, I feel you on the whole cleansing thing! I am out of town until Wednesday, but gosh I can’t wait to get back into “my groove.” How is that book, btw? I started it a few summers ago, but never could get into it. Let me know!

No cleansing for me…I think being away from the normal hustle and bustle of Christmas celebration has enabled me to stay quite on track with my eating and other things…maybe no more chocolate in the morning though?
Have fun with the camera..I think I would be so overwhelmed with all the functions.

Best oatmeal ever! K, I am loving the new camera! You are adorable Chelsey!! Love all your cleansing….nothing wrong with laughing so hard that you pee your pants ha, have fun playing games. P.S. I need to learn about all the settings on the rebel too, wish we could take a class together on it!

This morning I ate a whole bag of Kale…enough said.
Love the shots with the rebel!
I hope you enjoy the book! It gets so good. So…remember…just REAL.
Get used to braving the cold with the new pup! Is it cold enough that he needs doggie-wear? I always thought it was frivolous Paris Hilton stuff still I watched my dog shiver. Luckily we live in South Florida so she has no wardrobe…we just suck it up during our 5 days of 50 degrees. (0:

I am loving the book - it’s so raw. It’s awesome.

My pup can handle the cold. He doesn’t mind running through the snow now or anything. He’s a brave one!

When I read that book I can’t help but imagine a screenplay I can write…like he took me to a place where I “saw” a movie…I saw the flashbacks and the mom and…well I could go on. I won’t.

I am glad you are liking your book.

I would love for some popular blogger to start a sort of book club…like bi-weekly posts on the book every two months….it would be cool.

PS- Your comments on my blog mean the world to me — I have such an internet crush on you and to think you’d care…well..it moves me! Thanks for being …you.

Im so jealous of your camera! I know I ordered one last night, but they obviously dont ship on weekends and Im ready for it to be here NOW!!

I’ve been trying to “sugar detox” for the last week. Im not doing very well. Too much chocolate everywhere! Plus, the marathon of “Best Thing I Ever Ate” today sure didnt help matters.

Love this post! I definitely need to do some cleansing! :)

I have those same Asics! And my old pair was in that color. One thing I realized with Asics is when they start to hit the “big mileage” they fall apart quickly. I was surprised how much my feet hurt once I hit the time I needed new shoes!

Reply

cleaneatingchelsey December 27, 2010 at 7:35 am

I love Asics - they are the only shoe that fit my feet right! I have a high arch and really skinny foot.

I was going to start “cleansing” yesterday, but, uh, then the pile of leftover desserts happened. Soooo today I’m getting back on track….it’s just soooo hard to ignore the cookies!!

This post is motivating me to learn to use my camera better too, by the way. Need to do that!

Reply

cleaneatingchelsey December 27, 2010 at 7:37 am

Honestly, all I’m doing is setting it to manual, and then playing around until I get it right!

I did a lot of cleansing yesterday as well! I am pretty good at eating healthy when the Holiday is over…but during its balls to the wall!!

Reply

Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin December 27, 2010 at 7:38 am

I wanted to start my post-holiday cleanse yesterday, but there were too many leftovers to be had! I ended up having a second turkey dinner and I nibbled on random cookies and chocolates all day long. :P I’ll start today… or tomorrow…

Looks like you’re having fun playing with your camera! You’ll be a pro in no time!

TheSceneFromMe December 27, 2010 at 9:00 am

Ah haha! Love the tears and pee comment!

I need a camera lesson too. Better than a lesson, I need a whole class on my camera. The manual is too daunting to read!

Love your cleansing. Your better than me at it. Hopefully today will be my “snow day” and I can recoup a bit! Keeping my fingers crossed I don’t get called in to work X

Reply

cleaneatingchelsey December 27, 2010 at 2:35 pm

:) I need a class too, but just play around with it. As long as you know the basics ISO, F-stop, and exposure.. you’re good to go!

Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman December 27, 2010 at 10:40 am

Thankfully I ate pretty healthfully on Christmas (that’s a first) but after the lead-up to the holidays I need a “cleanse.” Namely, I’m craving salads like they’re made of cheeseburgers.

Reply

cleaneatingchelsey December 27, 2010 at 2:35 pm

I am too - I went through a “no salad” phase, but I’m glad to say I’m back on track!

Reply

Tina @ Faith Fitness Fun December 27, 2010 at 12:36 pm

I love your elongated definition of cleansing - go on a run, eat more veggies, and then do nothing. Sounds about perfect! :D

And you’ll get the hang of the camera soon. Just read up on stuff then mess around with it. I use mine solely in Manual mode now and love it. I still have plenty to learn and room to grow, but you’ll get there with figuring out how things all work.
