a glimpse into my life

January 3, 2011

One reason I like blogs so much is because I’m a certified creeper. Okay, that made me seem really weird.

What I meant to say is I’m really nosy. That still makes me seem a little odd.

Whatever, any way you put it — inquisitive, interested, curious, etc. — it’s all the same.  When Facebook became popular, I was in heaven. Staying updated without having to actually talk to people? Score.

Back to what I was saying — I love blogs because I get to learn about other peoples’ lives and see how (maybe) normal I actually am ::crosses fingers::. Blogs allow you to be the “fly on the wall” when you may be hundreds or thousands of miles away from the person you’re reading about.

Granted, you wouldn’t want to be the fly on the wall in my home when I’m whining all afternoon about how horrible of a sinus headache I have. You probably also don’t want to hear me nagging at the Husband to get his butt out of bed in the morning. Thankfully for you, I’m censored and classy so you don’t have to read about that.

One of my favorite things about reading blogs is imagining what the person writing actually sounds like. I’m not sure why, but it’s a little like reading a book. You make up a character in your mind — how they look, the gestures they make, the way their voice fluctuates. It’s a lot of fun. Sometimes though, movies are made about books you enjoy. Many times, however, you will end up liking the character you make up better than the character in the movie. I’m hoping we can still be friends after this.

No, that was not me doing the saltine challenge — you’re lucky you’re hundreds or thousands of miles away from me so I can’t show you how I really feel.

I think it was better for me to be behind the camera for this one. There’s two reasons for this.

1 — Eating saltines would make my intestines tear me apart
2 — You don’t want to see the way my face distorts when I laugh.. it’s just not pretty.

I just hope the shrill of my voice doesn’t haunt you as you continue to read my blog.

Well, I’m just hoping you’ll still continue to read at this point.

Question: Have you ever done the saltine challenge?

The hubby recently was coaxed into the saltine challenge by his coworkers and came out victorious.

Never done the saltine thing, and really don’t have a desire to :)

I do the same thing with imagining how my readers/other bloggers sound. And I do hate it when the Mr. Darcy of my mind doesn’t match up with how he’s portrayed in film.

hahaha Im a total creeper too!! Facebook stalking is a favorite pastime of mine. :)

I love when people post videos, I always wonder what they sound like. How they talk, pretty much everything you said. Im glad its not just me.

Okay, I am also SO nosy. I’m completely unashamed. I like to know things, especially secrets or things I shouldn’t know. I don’t see any problem with that. :) Love this video. I always love it when bloggers post videos! Never done the saltines… and I probably never will because I know I couldn’t do it, ha!

cleaneatingchelsey January 3, 2011 at 7:38 pm

I wouldn’t be able to do it either. I’m glad I technically “can’t” because I am the kind of person who would claim they could “totally do it” and then would epically fail.

So funny, I totally agree! Humans are so voyeuristic (is that a word) and we are just nosy by nature. I also think it’s funny to hear a voice of someone you only know through reading, or finally put a face with a voice when you meet someone you’ve only talked to on the phone!

Okay. This was too weird. Because:

1: I just recorded a video of myself doing a “challenge”…I’m posting it this weekend.
2: I call myself “snoop bloggy blawg” and I WILL dig through archives.
3: I am OBSESSED with Mama Pea. I want to be her Nanny.
4: HERE is where you will get creeped out. Tonight…I was thinking about your husband. <-oh dear that sounds bad
I was thinking of maybe the next time you asked? What so you all want to know? I would ask what your husband thinks about your blog, how his diet has changed and MAYBE would he ever do a guest post.
CREEPY! <-sorry
5: I actually debated to read your post right now…I like to save them for the perfect moment cause I LOVE TO READ THEM! Sometimes I click on a blog and its all "I got sent yuckity from such company and here is what happenned…" you know what I mean. Yours are always treasures.
6: This comment is way too long. Creepy.

I love your voice. I LOVED the very very slight accent I here.
I think it is a fact of life that people can't stand their own voice "do I really sound like that?" But you've got a winner.

I have a long response….

1. I’ll co-nanny with you — those girls are adorable.
2. I love that you were thinking about the Husband. I’ll see if I can wrangle him into a guest post… or at least an interview.
3. I don’t have an accent! Well, who thinks they have one, anyways?

I agree - I do the same thing as I read blogs, imagining how people sound! It’s so bizarre actually hearing people talk after just reading for so long!!
And I love that you made your husband do the saltine challenge! haha. I’ve yet to do it, but I’m pretty sure I’d fail miserably :/

I love reading blogs because they provide an escape from my sometimes tedious life! I think it’s fabulous that I can read about people who live way more exciting lives than me!

When I was younger, I had this hoarse, raspy voice that my mom loved and wished I never lost. I guess I still have a lower voice tone though - I’m not a squeaky girl (unless I’m talking to my dog in a baby voice that is!)

I’ve attempted the saltine challenge twice and have yet to be successful. I love how he’s like”Oh I’ve got this.” And then he so doesn’t. Classic. Your voice sounds exactly like I imagined, which is weird because all I was basing it off of was my friend Chelsea’s voice who freakishly looks just like you. Odd.

Ha ha, I’m exactly the same and it was the same when I saw a video Mama Pea put up; it’s so weird to hear the voice!
What’s just as strange is that, although America and England are thousands of miles apart, both have that challenge (ours is the three Jacob’s cream crackers in a minute but I’m sure it’s the same) - maybe the first settlers brought it over and it’s been handed down through generations :-)
I tried it once, years ago, was too cocky and failed miserably but of course now, as a coeliac, I could say of course I could do it, if I could only eat them *sigh*…!

Reply

Lauren @ Coachlauren.net January 4, 2011 at 7:36 pm

I’ve done that one before for sure…and I’m convinced it’s impossible!!! Whats weird though is that when you start you totally think you can do it…until you get about 45 seconds in and realize there is ZERO moisture left in your mouth lol.
