insert retail therapy here

August 7, 2011

Hi, remember me? I’m that one girl who used to blog two times a day and then decided to take off and leave you in the dust this weekend. Sorry I’m not sorry.

Okay, so that was not the nicest greeting after leaving you for two days with no updates with my positively mind-blowing weekend. Let’s try that again.

Hiiiiii!!!! I’ve missed you all so much this weekend. Let’s catch up, shall we?

Yes, much better.

In reality, yesterday I was off gallivanting around Chicago with one of my best friends and her husband, and today I had a lot of therapy planned.

While it could be debated that I could actually benefit from actual therapy, today’s was in the form of retail.

I did a lot of grocery shopping — my first big trip to the store in probably 3-4 weeks due to all of that traveling I did last month.

I went to Jewel to stock up on some Jazz apples (they are the best right now!), sweet potatoes and whole flax seeds (for a soon to come recipe!).

August 7, 2011 002

Some essentials from Trader Joe’s — a lot of beans to restock my pantry, tomatoes, brown rice pasta, Almond Smooth, balsamic vinegar, and cashews.

August 7, 2011 005

Produce from Trader Joe’s:

August 7, 2011 009

And some more essentials: tofu, ketchup, mustard, greek yogurt, butter (Husband — obviously), chocolate chips (Husband), chocolate coconut water (crack. seriously.), and peanut butter.

August 7, 2011 017

After Trader Joe’s I went to Costco where I proceeded to look through my purse for 20 minutes in the 90 degree heat trying to find where I put the card in my purse. Um, it was exactly where I put it. Awesome.

Raisins, salad mix, bananas, blueberries, lunchmeat, hummus, parmesan, cinnamon.

August 7, 2011 018

But before I did all my grocery shopping, I actually headed out to the mall to pick up some essentials for work. When I was younger, one of my favorite things about the beginning of the school year was the money my mom put aside for us to go “back to school” shopping. Seeing as I would “only wear Limited Too”, that got me all of about 4 outfits. But whatever, I rocked that plaid skirt and knee highs all of sixth grade.

From JC Penney’s I bought two camisoles (black and white) as my current cami’s have holes at the bottom from my pulling the shirt down constantly. I also bought a cute sheer short sleeved shirt from the a.n.a line. I also got some unmentionables, but they shall remain unmentionable.

August 7, 2011 022
I also went to The Loft, which is pricey at times, but they have really nice quality outfits. It also doesn’t hurt that I receive an extra 15% off just for being a teacher!

August 7, 2011 025
The crops on the right are so comfortable and casual yet dressy enough to work to work. I love the bottom cuff.

August 7, 2011 027
They have an elastic cuff so you can roll them (or not!) to your heart’s desire.

August 7, 2011 029
I also found a pair of jeans that actually fit me. Whenever that happens, it does not matter how much the pants cost. I have to get them. I have larger hips but a smaller waist, so jeans never fit me properly. I found these “curvy boot” jeans and bought them despite the $60 price tag.

August 7, 2011 032

The khaki pants in the middle were actually on clearance in Target! They also have a “curvy” fit (fit 4) and I love them. The pants were only $17!

At The Loft, I also scored 3 basic tees for $30. I honestly needed the essentials as mine were looking kind of gross. Plus, it is super easy to dress up a t-shirt!

August 7, 2011 033

For once I am actually glad the Husband does not read the blog because he would kill me if he saw I bought another pair of shoes, let alone three pair. However, in my defense, all three pairs were on clearance and I am constantly looking for dressier sandals and flats to wear to work.

August 7, 2011 035
I tend to accessorize with a lot of gold, so I thought these peep-toe ballet flats were absolutely adorable.

August 7, 2011 036
And you can never go wrong with a black sandal!

August 7, 2011 038

I would have liked to find more tops to wear, but I guess that wasn’t in my card today. When I got home, I did put together a huge pile of throw away’s and donations (throw away’s because I don’t think anyone wants my old undies…). In all, I probably spent about $250 on clothes, which isn’t too bad!

I’m going to have to remember that shopping high when my alarm clock starts going off at 4:15 tomorrow morning so I can squeeze in a BodyRock workout before I get ready/leave the house at 6 AM (teaching conference this week!).

Question: What was the last good deal you scored?

I love those gold ballet flats. Are they from Target?
And I somehow managed to go to Anthro when I was in Philly and spend less that $75 and come out with 3 things. I know. It’s like magic. (sale rack 4 life!)

I almost bought those nude/pink flat sandals from Target. I really really like them, but already had three pairs on my cart so I had to sacrifice one. I love the color. Great buys! I love buying new things - makes me feel so “new”. :)

The clothes are so cute …you have such a good fashion sense — which prompts me to wonder (as I also admire your grocery selection) what so you call a person with good taste in the groceries?
A foodie, I guess.

Nice purchases! I love getting things on sale. My latest purchase was a pair of Joe’s Jeans from the outlet mall, normally $180 for $120. My parents picked up the tab on that since they were in town for my grad school graduation (luckily since I haven’t found my post-grad school job yet).

Wow…all this time I’ve been wondering how I get little holes in the bottom of nearly all my cami’s. Apparently I’m a little slow on the uptake, as I never thought about the fact that I have to pull them down so much until you said that! d’uh.
Anyway. All your finds are super cute! And you can never pass up a good deal - never!

Reply

aha I love you! I always just recycle them down to workout gear when holes are around!

I am the biggest ‘The Limited’ fan!!!! (seriously, probably the biggest) ….I just spent a tad over $100 and got SO many teaching items it’s not even funny….. I got over $275 worth of merchandise, being a teacher an using the coupons saved me a fortune!
Clothes for work are too darn expensive for quality of any sort. I felt like I was on top of the world when I left!!!

Oh my gosh your new clothes are so cute! I love The Loft- but usually only when I can find a deal :) . I may have to go look at those jeans…it’s hard for me to find pairs that fit too! And hey, you can never have too many shoes right?

Reply

Lindsay @ Lindsay's List August 7, 2011 at 8:25 pm

Your husband sounds like mine when it comes to shoes. But you really can’t have too many, right? True story: Went shopping, scored some great sandals, brought them home only to discover that I already owned them. Travis will never let me forget that one.

No way, teachers get a discount at The Loft? Never knew that! I love the orange floral shirt, super cute. My favorite part of going back to school is always the back to school shopping too. Unfortunately, my closet is completely stuffed now and I don’t have any more hangers. Time to go through my clothes so I can go shopping!

I’m a big fan of Loft myself! Recently I scored a pair of white bermuda shorts and a khaki blazer for $45! (The blazer was regularly $49) I was one happy lady, even if it’s been too hot to wear the blazer yet, buying out of season clothes on sale is always a good deal!

Great buys! I love the roll-up cargos and those peep-toe flats with the roses. This makes me so excited to go shopping for fall clothes in a few weeks! :D

The last good deal I scored was TWO Jamie Oliver cookbooks for $50 when one alone is usually $40. Score!

Confession: I have NEVER even been inside Ann Taylor Loft! I know, right!? I’ve had friends sing their praises for the past 5 years but I’ve never dipped in (I secretly thought of it as an “old lady” store…even though I know that’s totally not true!) I really need to check it out!

Last deal I scored….I picked up 2 tees at the Old Navy for $4 each, 2 scoopnecks for layering. I dig ‘em.

I love Fit 4 from Target…if only their “short” inseam was really short (they’re still about 3-4 inches too long for me). I’m on a mission to find those curvy boots from The Loft in my size - they were out the last time I was there.

Reply

Kaitlyn@TheTieDyeFiles August 8, 2011 at 1:55 pm

Definitely need to check out The Loft for jeans, I have the same issue! I just never buy them and end up with ratty old jeans because I can’t justify spending money on jeans that don’t fit well. I used to love back to school shopping! Grandma took us every year. Now that I’m in school year-round it doesn’t have quite the same appeal. And I’m spending my own money.
