You’ll be glad to know I survived hot yoga without feeling as if I had to throw up all over the place after eating all of those pancakes. I call that a successful class — not to mention my instructor played “Like a G6” during one of the flows today. Any yoga instructor that does that is a-okay in my book. However, it’s kind of sad that I must get my groove onto that song in yoga class. #whitegirlproblems
After yoga, I was in the area to go to a new to me farmers market. While Tinley Park is in fact pretty close to where I live, I’ve actually never been to their market before!
It was an absolutely gorgeous morning — thankfully the God forsaken 90+ temperatures have left the area (for the moment), and we were left with a breezy 75 degree morning. I’ll take it.
The farmer’s market was held in the parking lot of the town’s downtown train station. I actually lived in Tinley Park for the first four years of my life, and my old church is right down the street from the farmers market. The downtown area of Tinley Park is really cute and has a lot of newer buildings with great restaurants.

Not to mention some insanely adorable old homes that have vintage charm that you would not believe!
I had heard this was a good farmer’s market from a couple of different people, but I was surprised to find out of the 20+ stands which were set up, only 3 of them were full of produce! The rest of the stands were canned goods, face painting, etc. — still fine, but not what I was expecting.
There was only one real stand to choose from for my vegetable selection. With the exception of the swiss chard and green tomatoes I bought from a teeny tiny stand, which was a total hidden gem, I got the rest of my vegetables where everyone else was crowding around.
Apparently it isn’t a good idea to carry an iced coffee in one hand, a camera around your neck, and try to bag produce up at once. Don’t try this at home kids.
I ended up buying onions, broccoli, tomatoes, beets, summer squash, and green beans from the overly crowded produce stand. And I even managed not to spill my coffee. Success!
There was also a fruit stand, where I bought the juiciest peaches ever. I ate one this afternoon during my cleaning break — I’m kind of sad I didn’t get two quarts!
All in all, the farmer’s market wasn’t a total bust. I got some great produce, took some fun pictures, and got to stand in the sunshine for a good half hour.
I’m going to wait until next week to get my face painted though — I couldn’t decide between a unicorn or a butterfly. I’m sure you understand.

Go unicorn - everyone is doing butterfly’s. Be different.
I love our little local Farmer’s Market. It’s just in a large parking lot, but all of the vendors know us because we’re there almost every weekend, and I love knowing that I’m supporting our local farmers. Oh - and the peaches are almost always to die for! I always wish I had bought twice as many.
I want some of those peaches-yum!
I would have gone the unicorn route for sure. And while I love farmer’s markets, the one we get here is kind of a bust so I hardly ever go… unless I need to stock up on carrots
There IS a man that does some craaaaazy balloon animals, though, and I was extremely tempted to hit him up for a Shrek and Donkey. Sadly, a 10 year old boy got to them before I could. Drat. Maybe next time…
Looks like you had a nice day! I would also go unicorn more whimsical. I just went to my first farmers market last week and it was so fun to see what everyone was into and selling.
Looks like a perfect summer day. Reminds me a lot of the “Peach Festival” in my home town.
Also - I’ve been one of the people painting faces in those booths before! With no art talent…at all.
Oh peaches…how I love thee! Those look absolutely amazing-ripe+juicy
I love farmers markets. The last couple I’ve been to seem to be more miscellaneous items than actual items from a farm. At least you were able to find some good stuff!
What an awesome market!! And i’m glad you survived yoga! I love hot yoga!!
Hmmm I have actually been wondering how to paint a unicorn on a persons face…that would be interesting to see! I actually would have went with the butterfly…haha nice pics
I just stumbled on your blog! I love all of your pictures and day-to-day happenings
I also just read your post on blueberry pancakes. Now THAT is a recipe I need to try. I am in love with blueberry pancakes but never have the energy in the morning to cook anything substantial- although I am always hungry enough for it! I added you to my blog roll- can’t wait to read more!
ps. I tried hot yoga this summer- it was hard, but definitely the BEST feeling once you are back in normal temps.
Hi Meaghan! Thanks for reading!
I was wayyy too much of a tomboy to get the butterfly. I always chose to be a tiger. Which was incidentally the most complicated facepainting to get and I was always stuck in the chair for like, an hour.
I live in the Milwaukee area so there are about 10 farmer’s markets within a 25-minute drive. By theory is: The more produce the better - that’s why I go to them after all. Oh and if you ever get up to WI, the Appleton one is the best I’ve ever been to, over 100 vendors!

Oh wow - that sounds fantastic! I might go up there just for that!
love going to farmers markets that are in cute places that yours! to me they have so much more history and character to them
it has been years since I have had my face painted. always a fun time though.
haha I don’t even remember ever getting my face painted!
I love going to farmer’s markets! I haven’t been to one in months though because I always work on the days that our market runs.
Ours isn’t super awesome either though… you actually have to be discriminating when you go because there are some stalls run by people who aren’t actually farmers - they just sell produce that they pick up from the food terminal. That totally annoys me because that’s what grocery stores are for, NOT farmer’s markets!
Mmm…those peaches are looking mighty fine! I bought some fresh rasp’s from my farmer’s market yesterday - let’s just say they didn’t make it past their first day in my house. I am excited from mine because I got some golden beets - one is bigger than the palm of my hand. Can you understand my excitement for that? Or maybe it’s the butterfly that I got on my cheek… hahaha
My brother and his wife used to live in Tinley Park! What a small world
Our local farmer’s market has been a bust this year with only one or two people with produce. Apparently the vendors all go down the road an hour (to the one I go to near my work) because there are more customers.
So my mom lives right down the street from the Tinley Farmers Market, and yesterday was the first time I ever saw it going on. I guess I don’t get out that early on most Saturday mornings. I may have to go check it out for myself next week.
I vote unicorn!!! And you HAVE TO post a photo. It’s a requirement.
All the farmer’s markets in my area only have 2 or three produce stands too! It’s frustrating. My vote is for butterfly! I think I’m biased though, my middle school mascot was a unicorn. We weren’t very intimidating.
