little packages of joy

December 8, 2011

About a month or so ago, I heard some buzz about a great Secret Santa opportunity in the blog world. Apparently, there was a cookie swap being planned. And a cookie swap is something you don’t have to tell me about twice.

I immediately signed up for the Food Blogger Cookie Swap, which was run by Love and Olive Oil along with The Little Kitchen. These girls put in such hard work to make sure everyone had matches — I have to say, it was incredibly organized.

The Great Food Blogger Cookie Swap

So, how did it work?

1. You signed up to be a part of the swap, including your mailing address and any dietary restrictions you might have.
2. By a certain date, the organizers emailed you three matches who you baked 1 dozen cookies per person.
3. You mail those three people their cookies.
4. In return, three people were also assigned YOUR name, meaning you get three dozen cookies in the mail.

It is only mandatory that I tell you I have been eating cookies non stop for the last two days.

I received my three packages over the course of the past few days and every single dozen I received is nothing less than stellar.

The first package I received was from Becca.

The second I received this package, I tore into a cookie and muttered a statement of disbelief. Honestly, when I am buried, I want to bring these cookies with me. They are dense nuggets of sugary goodness, and I have been joyfully eating one (or two) every night after dinner. I tried putting them in the freezer to make them last longer (read: so I would stop living off of cookies for a day or two), but the good/bad news is they taste excellent frozen. Win, win or lose, lose?

Now would also be the time you DON’T comment on my nasty fingernails.

The second package I got was from Maria @ GF Girl in Chicago.

Maria sent me White Sugar Cookies with Pecans, and it would be a total lie if I told you I have not been crumbling these into my oats in the morning. Who says you can’t eat cookies for breakfast? I sure wouldn’t want to be friends with them.

These cookies are crisp and crunchy, but thick — just the way sugar cookies should be in my book. I want another one just looking at this picture.

The last package I got was from Julie @Â Swim, Bike, Running on Empty.

Julie baked Nutty Chocolate Pumpkin Bits — and they are delicious! They are moist and chewy, almost cake like and so good!

Now, in my opinion, I am absolutely convinced that this whole cookie swap thing should not just be during the holidays. I’m thinking something monthly if we can work it out… however, I’m pretty sure my pants won’t like me (or I won’t like them) if that were to happen.

Thanks for the goodies girls!

Question: What is your favorite holiday cookie?

Uh. Makin those. So many cookies are WAY better frozen, I see it as an accidental blessing.

And now I’m kicking myself for not signing up for this! Holy yum! The favorite cookie question is just impossible to answer. I pretty much like them all! Although, ones with liquor in them are kind of nice this time of year ;)

Chocolate cookies are the best - and I always forget to tell you that your gravatar looks very similar to one of my friends, so every time I look at it, I always think it’s my friend Courtney!

It’s hard to pick a favorite. My mom makes batches and batches but I’m going to have to say I like her twist on the peanut blossom. She makes chocolate peanut blossoms and uses the peppermint kisses on top. Yum!

these look fantastic!! man oh man, if i had these options of cookies in my house, they’d be devoured way too quickly! it looks like you got a perfect mix of some different kinds too!

ok, so i can’t only pick ONE favorite holiday cookie… but a few of my favorites include: no bake PB & chocolate oatmeal cookies, chocolate snowballs, and FUDGE! i don’t care if fudge isn’t a “cookie”, it still counts in my book. ;)

My favorite holiday cookies are ginger cookies! I love them so much, especially with a little cream cheese frosting! I love super soft cookies as well, where they just melt right into your mouth!!!

Thanks to you, I’m now craving a delicious cookie! :) Maybe my holiday baking will have to start this weekend!!!

Wow, those look incredible! But then, I’m pretty much a sucker for cookies in general. My favorites are classic chocolate chip and peanut butter. But for the holidays I try and get a bit more adventurous with some sort of mint, pumpkin, or gingerbread flavors. As long as they are gluten-free they are good with me!

If you ever organize a monthly cookie swap… I will be the first to sign up. And cookies for breakfast are definitely legit.

Oooo cookie exchange. My favorite is a good ol chewy sugar cookie with frosting. I also was introduced to saltine toffee last year, and it is pretty much Christmas crack. I pinned this recipe for peanut butter pretzel bites, and am planning to make them tomorrow (http://twotinykitchens.com/2011/02/23/peanut-butter-pretzel-bites/).

Ooh soooo good - I just got the one match because I’m in Canada and have the whole ‘natural sweeteners only’ thing so there was only one person who matched that requirement wanting to ship to Canada, but I cannot wait for their cookies to get here! So excited!

What a great idea!! I used to love those store-bought shortbread cookies. They’re just so addictive! And 1 serving per bag, by my calculations.

Cheryl December 9, 2011 at 7:51 pm

My favourite cookie recipe is for no-bake peanut butter/chocolate cookies, the kind that people sometimes add coconut to (and thereby ruin them). I want to try the Puddle cookies so badly! yum!!
