spork fed with nasoya (giveaway!)

June 4, 2012

A few weeks ago, I received a great package in the mail from Nasoya. I’ve always been a fan of their soy products, especially their tofu. Ranging from silken to extra firm (my shorts!!!), they have a plethora of soy products. My favorite, however, has to be the sprouted tofu. Sprouted tofu has almost double the protein content. The reason for this is because sprouted tofu uses sprouted soybeans instead of the whole soybean like other types of tofu.

Along with my package, I also received the book Spork Fed, a vegan cookbook hosting many recipes with soy. I haven’t gotten a chance to make anything yet, but I have a few pages dog eared! The pictures are gorgeous, the recipes are unique, and you can tell a lot of work was put into the cook book.

Nasoya is offering one reader the opportunity to win the same package I received in the mail. This winner will receive the following:

  • 5 Nasoya free product coupons (only 2 are pictured)
  • a copy of Spork Fed
  • Extra Firm shorts (!!!!)

To enter this giveaway, simply leave a comment on this post about your favorite soy product. This giveaway will be open until Wednesday, June 6 @ 11:59 PM. A winner will be announced Thursday morning. Happy entering!

The first comment can never be lucky but here goes…….I love Nasoya’s firm tofu. I use it to make baked tofu every week for salads. Silken tofu is just pure heaven. There are no other words.

I love Nasoya products! I’m not a fan of eating tofu plain but I love sneaking it into dishes for the extra nutritional boost. The extra firm can turn into a “cheese” stuffing for lasagnas, stuffed shells, etc. and the silken is a great addition to pies and cheesecakes (way to justify eating dessert at any time of the day for that extra protein boost!).

I would probably say soy milk, because among all the dairy-free milks, soy milk is the one I actually don’t mind the taste of in terms of having it over cereal or in hot chocolate (bear in mind, I only drink unsweetened varieties of these products, which may be why I can’t handle almond milk or rice milk in this way). It tastes the most similar to me in that sense. I use other milks in baking so I don’t have too much soy, but soy milk is the go to for cereal or anything else where I ‘taste’ the milk! It’s hard to find unsweetened varieties but I love So Nice’s…it’s amazing!

I used to not be that into tofu and always opted for tempeh instead. Recently, however, I’ve been enjoying tofu quite often. I love pan searing it and sprinkling it with nutritional yeast and some seasoning blend. Yum!

Silken tofu is a staple in our fridge. Between stirfrys, desserts, and vegan mayo we use it up quicker than any other ingredient.

Tofu….one of my favorite things!

Reply

Jenny June 5, 2012 at 10:01 am

I like soymilk and edamame, and tofu that I’ve had in restaurants, but I’ve never attempted to buy/make it myself. Since we never ate it growing up, it’s one of those things I’ve never learned how to make/prepare myself so I tend to shy away from buying & making it on my own, even though I like it whenever I eat it!

Reply

Giovonne June 5, 2012 at 10:58 am

My absolute favorite soy product is dark chocolate covered edamame from Trader Joe’s…AMAZING!!!

Hi there,
I just stumbled across your blog today, and boy am I glad I did. I love all the gf and meatless recipes you are sharing.
I actually had the opportunity to meet the Spork-Fed girls last week. We had a health fair at my work and they shared one of their fabulous black bean slider recipes. It’s so easy and satisfying to go meatless, something I will be doing much more of.
I love cooking extra firm tofu. Fortunately , my daughter is a fan too. I like to squeeze all the water out of it and then slice it in 1/2 inch pieces and saute or grill with a marinade. We also loves it in miso soup and stir-fry.
Looking forward to trying your recipes. :)

I’d have to say soymilk - in my coffee. I’ve had tofu at restaurants, but never tried cooking with it at home. Hopefully that will change soon!!
PS - Love the shorts. How fun are they!

Hi Chelsey! I have been following your blog for about a year now and finally created my own! My post this morning featured a photo of a pre-run breakfast on my patio with your blog in the background on my computer screen :) Would love for you to check it out! I am following you on my account but not sure how to make comments from my account (to include my picture, etc when I post on yours or others) so I am just commenting at the bottom here.

I love tofu and often cut it up and throw it in the wok when we make stir fry. Stir fry night at my house is great because my boyfriend and I can essentially eat the same thing at the same time but I can have what I want in mine (tofu, extra veggies) and he can have what he wants in his (meat, etc). I also like soymilk when I get iced coffee from Starbucks.

I like vanilla soy milk…it tastes like candy! Sometimes when I switch back to regular plain milk I don’t like it (cereal) as much.

A store near me that specializes in local, organic groceries sells stuffed baked tofu. It is SO good. My husband turns up his nose at anything with tofu in it, soo…more for me!
