a few reviews

May 20, 2013

Over the course of the past six or so months, I have really shied away from doing product reviews. I get a lot of offers, but honestly – I know product reviews are some of the least liked of posts for me if that’s all a blogger does.I’d rather tell you all about products I’ve bought myself and have loved.  I have really only been accepting things lately if they’re something I really and truly am interested in trying. I have tried a few new products lately, both of which I had never heard of.

First up - MetroMint

May 19, 2013 1113

I was SO pumped to try MetroMint. I feel like all I have been doing lately is drinking an exuberant amount of water, and I am so sick of it. When the opportunity arose to try a flavored mint water, I was all over it. Aaaand to be perfectly honest with you, I was not a fan of any of the flavors. I love flavored water, but I think the mint really threw me off. If you like the taste of mint water, then this is your thing. It’s not mine. Would I buy it again? No.

Sambazon Protein Drinks

I was a bit skeptical of these. When I drink protein shakes, I like making them at home because I hate the way store bought ones taste chalky. I received coupons to buy a few drinks, and I have to say – I was pleasantly surprised! The Acai Berry + Chocolate was my favorite, but the Chocolate + Almond + Coconut Milk was a second runner up. I was afraid that you would be able to taste the Acai Berry in the one shake, but it went completely unnoticed (which I was thankful for!). There were only two downfalls to these shakes – the price and the sugar content. I think each one of these drinks was almost $3.50, which I consider to be pretty steep for such a small shake (maybe I’m just cheap). The sugar was also ridiculous – around 30 grams per shake. I don’t mind it when sugars in shakes come from fruits, but there was added sugars like crazy in these guys. Would I buy them again with my own money? Absolutely if I was in a pinch and needed something quick.

Question: What’s your favorite store bought smoothie and flavored water?

I am so not a mint fan, so the idea of those waters really throws me off….and not in a good way, haha!

I don’t think I’d like the mint water either. As for the shakes, I’m cheap too because that’d be just outta’ my price range.

I always make my shakes at home too, its easier to control the calories & sugar. I do like the Hint waters.

I prefer making my own smoothies and I like my water plain! Lately though, I’ve been kind of obsessed with Vitamin Water Zero. They’re so yummy, but also expensive so I limit myself to one or two per week.

I make my own flavored water every week. So much cheaper and and “real” than the processed stuff. I also like making my own smoothies, but I’ll buy the Naked brand if I’m in a pinch. I just hate all the added sugars! I would buy coconut water every single day if I could, though.

As always, love the honesty! :)

I’ve gotta say, I really respect that you don’t accept every product review you receive. So many bloggers have completely sold out and have started reviewing things (some that they would never in a million years purchase on their own!) and their blogs start to read like one giant advertisement. Major props to you!

I honestly can’t remember the last time I had a store-bought smoothie - I always prefer the taste of my own! Plus they tend to be pricey…and I’m cheap ;-)

I really like those Sambazon smoothies, but I agree that they’re a little pricey!

The MetroMint water has been around for a while. I tried them (and loved them) a few years ago. It’s a great way to stay even cooler in the hot, summer heat!

Hmm yeah I can’t imagine mint flavoured water tasting very good. 5 or 6 years ago I remember Dasani used to make flavoured waters and they were really good - I think they stopped making them though unfortunately!

I totally agree with you on MetroMint – did NOT like it at all. When I first heard about it, I thought I would really like it and looked all over for it. When I finally tried it, all I could think was ewwww, this is what I couldn’t wait to try??!!! haha :-)

I love MetroMint but can’t find it anymore where I live … It’s like cold peppermint tea which is awesome uin the summer.
Would love to try the Chcocolate Munt one (I didn’t like the lemon-mint) … Maybe will need to take a road trip and buy a few cases!

I like Vita Coco’s coconut water with pineapple. I can’t stand regular coconut water, but flavored coconut water is so much better.

I was wondering about those protein shakes because I just saw them recently and thought they looked good. Boo to the sugar though!! Good to know that the taste is good though if I really did want a protein shake!

I LOVE Metromint, except the berry. The chocolate mint is amazing. I have been drinking them for a few years.
