thursday thoughts

June 6, 2013

1. I was going to wait until tomorrow and do “Fun Facts Friday”, but I just couldn’t wait. I wanted to get back into writing today, but I have too many random thoughts swirling around in my head to actually make a cohesive post.

2. Thank you thank you thank you for all your thoughts, prayers, and messages regarding the passing of my dad. We have been doing okay, and I am just so glad I am not in school right now as I wouldn’t have been able to help my mom out with a lot of things this past week. Things definitely aren’t “normal” and I’m not sure if they ever will be – but life moves forward. However, I can’t even begin to think about how the next few “important dates” are going to go – Father’s Day, our birthday, when my girls are born. Ugh, I can’t even go there.

As weird as it sounds, we had some laughs while cleaning out my dad’s closet on Sunday. The man had a GOOD head of hair. He never lost any hair from chemo, and it was always thick. He took pride in it… maybe a little too much. We could not stop laughing when we found FOUR hair dryers in his closet. FOUR!!!

3. And I found this gem while going through pictures and making memory boards for my dad’s memorial open house we are holding on Sunday. It is uncanny how much Aubrey looks like me.

4. Yesterday I spent a few hours watching Friends episodes On Demand. I watched two of the greatest episodes ever – The One Where Ross is Fine and The One with Ross’s Spray Tan. HILARIOUS.

5. I had my 24 week prenatal appointment yesterday. We are hitting viability baby!!!! Baby A is definitely breech right now, and Baby B is transverse and could go either way. They flip and turn all day long. We will see if they actually turn the way they’re supposed to before they make an appearance.

6. The Husband and I are planning on taking a long weekend and going up to Mackinac Island in Michigan later this month. I don’t want to travel tooooo far away at this point – it’s about a 7 hour car ride. My doctor said as long as everything looks good with the babies at my 4D growth check next week we should be good to go for the next month or so!

7. My little brother is graduating from college this weekend!!! I am so proud of him. He is getting a degree in audio engineering – and I am so glad he found something he loves to do. His passion is in music, and he’ll make a great producer some day!

8. I made these sweet potato nachos with a recipe that Jenn gave me yesterday. Ooooooooo my goodness – SO good! I just wish I had some jalapeños to go along in them!

9. We welcomed a new little girl into our family on Monday! My cousin Melissa had her second sweet little girl, Ava Mei. I was thinking she would be no more than 6.5-7 pounds as my cousin is a teeny tiny little thing. Instead, girl came out almost 8 POUNDS!!!! I had to return the newborn clothes I bought for her. Her cheeks need to be squeezed. They are adorable. When I was holding her, I thought (and said), “How the heck am I supposed to hold two of these at once!?!?!?”

10. I’ll probably be back Monday with more regularly scheduled programming. Have a good (almost) weekend!

Have fun on Mackinac Island! I was married there and it’s very close to my hometown. :)

Very fun! Anything you recommend for a lady that will be almost 7 months pregnant with twins? John is SUPER nervous because he feels like we will have to walk everywhere. I told him we could just take a carriage, but he isn’t so sure.

Maryea {Happy Healthy Mama} June 10, 2013 at 10:35 am

You can definitely walk almost everywhere. If you get tired and need a ride, there are carriage taxis. You’ll have a great time! :)

Congrats on the new family member!
I haven’t been to Mackinac Island since I was a kid but Id love to go back. All I remember about it was biking everywhere and fudge.
Have a great Thursday :)

LOL - John is so nervous about the whole having to walk everywhere thing. I keep telling him we can take a carriage to anywhere we need to go to, but he’s downright scared all that walking isn’t going to be good for me.

Hi Chelsey,

I am so sorry about your Dad….I know how hard it must be. On a brighter note, you will be able to hold both at once, it’s amazing what you can do once you have twins. I also nursed them at the same time and that is key so you are not nursing 24/7 if that is what you choose to do. We also did some supplementing with a bottle and they did wonderfully with both!

Reply

cleaneatingchelsey June 6, 2013 at 8:14 am

I am planning on doing just that! :) I’m hoping breastfeeding goes well. Regardless, I am planning on MAKING the babies be on the same schedule. One eats, the other one does too. One goes down for a nap, (hopefully) the other one does too. Granted, I’m sure not every day will work out that way, but I am sure my sanity will be saved if I approach it that way!!

I love that picture of you and your dad :) . My husband and I are going to Mackinac Island in July for our anniversary! I love it so much up there! I saw your question above about getting around. Do you know where you’re staying yet? If you stay in the downtown area, you won’t have to walk too far to get to the shops and restaurants. For everything else, you can take carriage rides/tours. The island is really not that big around, and everyone is really helpful and friendly, so you’ll be fine!

Such a precious picture of you and your dad! I lost my dad years ago, when I was young, and you’re exactly right- things will never again be the “normal” you’ve known for so long but they certainly get better. The best thing you can do is focus on all the happy memories and let yourself be sad sometimes.

Enjoy your long weekend :-)

Can’t wait to see and hear all about your baby adventures. Both me and my husband have siblings that are twins….we always say we are probably destined to have twins. lol

Also, I still can’t imagine the pain you’re feeling, but I’m so glad you’re finding things to humorously remember your dad :)

Reply

cleaneatingchelsey June 6, 2013 at 4:34 pm

You just might be in for it! Fraternal twins run on the maternal side, so as long as your sibling twins aren’t identical (those aren’t hereditary - just pure luck ;) ) you might be having twins some day. :)

I’m so happy you’re able to find some joy while going through this!

Those Friends episodes are the best! I also love the episode when someone ate Ross’s sandwich! There’s nothing like watching some great friends episodes to cheer you up.

Kristi June 6, 2013 at 5:32 pm

Don’t you love finding pictures of your Dad like that? I always think how precious it is, because often times Father’s and Daughter’s lose that physical closeness you had when you were younger.

Reply

cleaneatingchelsey June 6, 2013 at 6:43 pm

agreed! My dad was super affectionate when we were little, but that definitely fell out as we got older, which I think is pretty normal. It’s fun to see pictures like that!

I don’t even own one hair dryer, I have a lot to learn! And those sweet potato nachos look delicious; I’ll have to give them a try.

Reply

Mackinac Island is a good choice! I live very close by :) I agree with another comment above, that if you can stay near downtown, you shouldn’t have to walk too much. And carriages are always available to go to other areas. Have fun!

Firstly, those sweet potato nachos are my fave - I made them and took them to book club and they were DEVOURED.

Secondly, so glad to have you back and if writing helps we’re happy to read. Take your time though - and my love and prayers to your family. I lost my dad to cancer four years ago and I remember the period afterwards well - I didn’t respond to many people because I was in a bit of a stupor, but the words meant a lot. So many hugs xx

Victoria @ Reluctantly Skinny June 9, 2013 at 9:52 pm

Totally made those nachos the other night…with jalapenos, and they were amazing - you definitely have to make them again to try it! I haven’t been to Mackinac Island since I was a kid - but my dads family is from Traverse City, and he talks about going there all the time! Enjoy your trip =)

FOUR HAIR DRYERS!? haha love it! My dad was the same way [and went through chemo too, he passed from lymphoma when I was a tween] and had like, crazy piles of hair products and tools. Hopefully our somehwat-metro dads are at peace now <3 love you girly and I'm keeping you and the fam in my thoughts! You'll def be a baby juggling pro by the time the twins are here - not to worry! Let's just hope ours come out a tad smaller than 8lbs! haha! Oh man! Paul was a 10lb baby so I'm terrified!!! <3

hahaa omg - we called my dad metro (behind his back) all the time. He took longer to get ready than any female in our house!!!! I’m sorry you lost your daddy way before I ever did. I can only imagine how hard that must have been for a hormonal pre-teen. I’m hoping I don’t have two 8 pounders. That would just be scary!!
