wiaw – FINALLY!

January 29, 2014

Well, seeing as I have had the last two days off of work, I figured I could get my act together and participate in a WIAW (as always, hosted by one of my favorites – Jenn!). Ever since I had the girls, I have pretty much let myself eat whatever I wanted whenever I wanted. While a lot of times that was good, a lot of times it was not so good. I’m pretty sure eating my weight in m&m’s and saying “it’s okay, I’m nursing” is actually accurate. In an attempt to reign myself in, I’ve been more conscious about what I’ve been eating. Not restricting or cutting calories in any way, but making better choices. Feeding twins burns a lot of calories in itself, and since I am (trying) to exercise regularly as well, now is not really the time to cut calories!

A lot of people have been wanting to know about my choice to continue to eat meat. As some of you may know, I was a vegetarian for quite some time and when I became pregnant, I added animal protein back into my diet. My body craved it, so I went with it. I’m still eating meat, and I can’t really say I’m upset about that! I feel really good, I still enjoy a lot of vegetarian dishes, but meat is staying in my diet at least for the time being. Plus, it’s a lot easier to just make one meal for the Husband and me instead of catering to him and me!

(sidenote: this coffee was a bad idea. I had a horrible headache, and I knew the only thing that would make it go away was caffeine. It worked, but now it’s 10 PM on Tuesday night and I am nowhere near tired. Gaaah!)

And there you have it – a full day’s worth of eats! Two little ladies turn 5 months old today – I’m working on a post right now, so hopefully it will be up tomorrow!

Question: Favorite food obsession right now?

You somehow made it happen… a picture of oatmeal that makes me want to eat it! ;) Usually pics of oatmeal just look like mush to me, but now it just might be my breakfast!

My food obsession right now is the dressing Garlic Expressions. It’s so dang good. That or popcorn with Texas Pete. And meat. Yes, meat.
Oh pregnancy, let’s be serious, everything tastes good to me right now!

I was veg until pregnancy, and almost two years later I still do. I hated to admit it at first, but I feel much better. No need to justify your choice - you’re doing what’s best for your body so you can be 100% for your family. No judgment :)

I haven’t had oatmeal in a long time and I’m not quite sure why. It’s such a comforting breakfast, especially in this crazy Chiberia! ;)

I am LOVING peanut butter right now too! I add it to just about everything - so much so that I can get myself in trouble :)

Dark chocolate and peanut butter is pretty much the best combo. But then nut butter + most things always wins for me!

We need to be friends. I always love everything you’re eating…staples in my house include oats, coffee with soy, peanut butter (although I like almond butter better) dark chocolate and VEGGIES. :)

I’m about to venture into the kitchen to spoon some skippy into my face. I blame you =) Ohmygosh and the smell of P’s coffee right now is driving me into a frenzy! I know I”ll regret it too but… ahh… I want! Maybe decaf will quell the craving. Though I do the same thing as you for headaches, coffee is just magic… I’m rambling. I can’t focus. Coffee. Must. Have. Coffee.

Happy WIAW schnookums!

I was a vegetarian once as well, but that time has passed, my body craves meat and so I go with it. I don’t think any style of eating is forever as our bodies change due to age, lifestyle, and external or environmental factors. At one point, I did well as a vegetarian, now I am doing well as a meat and fish eater, so I’m okay with that!

I’m glad that you are feeling great, because that is what matters!

Right now my food OBSESSION would probably be English Muffins - usually for lunch or dinner - with a runny egg. YUM!

have a great day!

It all looks so good! I’m interested in the oats with peanut butter, they look so delicious! Are they soaked overnight or cooked?
Yum!

I seriously love every meal that you pictured! Oatmeal with that trail mix you showed, banana and peanut butter have been my FAVORITE meals lately. I eat way too much peanut butter, I just love it so much with/on everything!!

So much hummus, avocado and butternut squash - all on top of some beautiful greens. Every. Single. Day.

I’m a firm believer in everything in moderation. Including meat. I also believe that when your body craves something, there is a reason why. GO MEAT! :) xo

I’m loving peanut butter, clementines, and eggs fried in a little bacon fat. My seven month old daughter is obsessed with bananas - she’s about to polish off a whole (albeit small) banana for lunch!

I think it’s perfectly fine to go from an all veggie diet to something different. Our bodies change, especially with pregnancy and breastfeeding! I’m not a huge meat eater, but I do find that lean chicken, turkey, and fish are awesome for filling me up so I don’t have to binge on empty calories later in the evening.
My current obsession is roasted pumpkin with rosemary!

I’m really into kale salads lately…kale with chopped apple, dried cranberries, green onions, and olive oil and lemon juice as a dressing.
I don’t eat meat and I haven’t for 6+ years, but I do get cravings sometimes. I love the taste of meat, and cravings are something I would love to learn more about. I was craving a burger the other day, and found out from bloodwork that day that my iron was slightly low. Was it my body telling me I needed iron?
I don’t know though because I crave Flamin’ Hot Cheetos ALL the time, so I don’t think I can necessarily rely on cravings to tell me what I should be eating! ;)

I’ve commented before, and even though it doesn’t apply to you now I would still love ideas for meals accommodating both a vegetarian and omnivorous diet- veggie stir fry for you with added chicken for him, etc. I would love to cook dinner for my boyfriend and I, but he is super picky and really only eats meat. :P We live together and always cook our own separate meals.

My current obsession is oatmeal cookies. I actually gave up meat when i was pregnant with my second…i tend to get extra ocd during pregnancy and couldn’t not think of the germs on raw meat. I cook for 6 people now and while i prefer a vegetarian diet for myself, everyone else loves meat. Plus still nursing and needing the protein/calories that are so easy with meat. 5 months! Your girls are beautiful.
