scenes from thanksgiving weekend

December 1, 2014

Hi everyone! I hope everyone had a great holiday weekend. I, for one, know it felt amazing to truly sign off and not open my computer once in five days. We all need a little break sometimes, and mine was much needed.

This long weekend was so nice to spend some extra time with my girlies, and I am so not ready to go back to work this week. It’s always bittersweet!

There was so much going on this weekend, so I thought I would do a few random bullet points about the four days we didn’t talk!

  • Thursday was busy busy busy! We ended up going to John’s aunt’s house for most of the day and over to my aunt’s house for dessert. The girls took a good morning nap before we left for the day, but there was no getting them down for an afternoon nap. I knew they wouldn’t! By the time we were ready to leave to go to my aunt’s house, Emerson was passed out on John’s sister in law, and Brooklyn could not keep her eyes open when we got to my aunt’s house. Tired little turkey!

  • My mom is awesome, and she kept the girls overnight on Thursday. One of my traditions is to decorate the day after Thanksgiving, and I knew it would be really hard to do with the girls around in the morning. I absolutely love my house with Christmas decorations up. It feels so cozy, and I instantly feel like I should spend my days and nights curled up under a blanket next to the tree. It’s the best!
  • Speaking of the tree… the girls have not even attempted to grab it. Okay.. that’s a lie. Emerson did once, but after she was told not to, she hasn’t gone back. I’m impressed because I thought they would be all over it!
  • Anyone do any Black Friday shopping? I always go – never for big ticket items, but because I want to score good deals, and it’s a great ay to get all of my Christmas shopping done in one swoop. I was home by 2:00 AM on Friday and have about 3/4 of my shopping done. Success!

  • I had a blast taking some pictures of the girls under the tree for some Christmas card photos. Here are a few of them – I’ll share the actual card after they are all mailed out. I couldn’t believe I even got some good ones… I guess that is what happens when you use a strand of lights to hold a couple of toddlers’ attention!

  • We had quite a disaster on Sunday night. I was planning on roasting a lot of vegetables for dinner and then to use throughout the week, and I had two pans of them. The girls were eating dinner, and I had just put the veggies in the oven when the oven started smoking and the fire alarms started going off. It smelled horrible, the girls were screaming, Charlie was howling (he was scared), and John wasn’t home. I turned the oven off and tried getting the alarms to go off with no avail. There was a LOT of smoke, so I put Charlie in the yard and took the girls across the street to a neighbor’s house. John came home right away and was able to get the alarms to stop. I guess olive oil dripped off one of the pans and was burning on the bottom of the oven. There was no fire (thank goodness!), but it was a pretty crazy night! It was a good excuse to get out the oven cleaner, I guess!
  • I have my meals for the week going up as a separate post, so keep a look out for it if you’re looking for some ideas this week!

I hope everyone has a great day – anyone have some kitchen disaster or Black Friday woes to tell?

Sounds like a wonderful holiday weekend. The girls look adorable as always!! And the exact same smoky disaster happened to me last week but with a piece of chicken. The apartment was full of smoke, smoke alarms going crazy, G was screaming, I’m standing on a bar stool banging the crap out of the smoke detector…LOL. What a mess! :)

I kept them overnight in a ziploc bag to cook today. They turned out just fine!

I love your tree!! Hunter is pretty fascinated by all the “balls” and lights on the tree, but he’s surprised me by being pretty good about not touching it too. He’s been told “no” a few times, and then he backs away and says “no no”. Haha! He’s a rule follower like his mama. ;)

Love the photos of the girls! They are too cute.

haha too funny! That would be my Brooklyn. Today Emme was testing my mom and kept trying to go over by the tree. Whenever my mom would tell her “no no”, she would look at her, smile, and give her “surprised” face. Hysterical.

No kitchen woes… but I happily went black Friday shopping and spent 75 minutes in line at Kohls as a means to avoid a house full of my in-laws. By house full I mean 30 of them… yeah.

bahahaha - I saw your Facebook status. My cousin and sister went with me so we held a spot in line. It was much quicker than 75 minutes though. Maybe 25!

And 30 relatives… oy.

I’m so jealous of your daughters’ jammies! I have been looking everywhere for a pair of those for Harlow, but can’t find her size! They sold out quick! I ended up getting her a different pair, but reeeeally wanted those. The reindeer is so cute with the ornaments on his antlers!

I’ve been looking everywhere for the “merry and bright” pajamas!!! I can only find like one of each kind of cute Christmas pajama everywhere. That presents a problem for someone who needs two of everything!

Yikes that sounds like a hectic Sunday night! One time I set my toaster oven on fire because I had the brilliant idea (not) of melting cheese in my taco shells in the toaster oven - but the cheese dripped down and started a fire. Oops (I should also mention I was like 10 years old at the time haha)!

Cute photos of the girls!

LOL - oh my goodness. That is too funny. We have set things on fire before when we were younger too. One time my sister was reaching into the toaster oven and set a paper towel on fire. And I’m pretty sure we set salami on fire in the microwave. We used to melt cheese on it and eat that for lunch. So so so gross. ;)
