25 days of christmas – part i

December 8, 2012

It’s clear that I’m not a Scrooge – I love anything that has to do with Christmas!

I saw this blogging challenge of Jenny’s blog, and I thought it would be fun to do a post each week of the blogging challenges she came up with. Today I’m going to be answering #1-7, and each Saturday until the end of the challenge I’ll be answering more! Woohoo for blogging on the weekends!

1. Your favorite Christmas movie – Oh gosh, this is a hard one. It’s not my absolute favorite, but the one that holds the most memories for me is A Christmas Story. It’s my dad’s favorite, and every year that movie would be on the television for 24 hours straight. At night when we couldn’t sleep because we were too excited, my sister, brother, and I would snuggle up in my sister’s bed and watch it until our parents would finally let us get up and open presents.

2. Your 2012 Christmas wish list – I had a really hard time with any sort of Christmas list this year. I told the Husband I didn’t really need anything and that he could surprise me. Otherwise, I told family members the following:

Aaaand, that’s all I could come up with!

3. When/how did you learn that Santa wasn’t real?

I’m really not sure. I remember being skeptical starting in about second grade, and one year my mom totally dropped the bomb and put a package under the tree for my dad from Santa way too early. Plus, it was something she bought when we were all with her (BBQ sauce from Rainforest Cafe – I didn’t know Santa could get that! haha!). My sister marched downstairs where my mom was cutting hair (I think my sister was in 6th or 7th grade) to probably tell her what she had done. My sister then came back upstairs and said “eh, Santa isn’t real”. I think I’d figured it out way before that though!

4. Favorite Christmas song – O Holy Night, but only if the person singing it doesn’t screw it up!

5. Best gift you’ve ever received – Eeeek, I don’t know! I have an extremely generous family and am always receiving wonderful presents. I will have to say the one I remember the most though was the pink vanity table I got when I about six or seven!

6. Your favorite Christmas tree ornament – This is too hard!!! My parents give us an ornament every single Christmas, and each one have a memory behind them.

7. Most Memorable Christmas – The Christmas we were first married. I remember being so so sad that Thanksgiving that I wasn’t at my parents’ house and participating in my family’s traditions. But that Christmas was so wonderful because we were able to start our own traditions as our little family. That was also the Christmas we had gotten Charlie just two days before, so there was a lot of commotion going on. It was a lot of fun!

Question: Take one of the questions above and answer them for yourself!

I love that you said that about your first Christmas as a married couple. I’m a little sad that it won’t be the same as I’m used to this year, but it’ll be fun to start our own traditions!

What a great idea! A Christmas Story is by far, the best Christmas movie! And I too have a new phone cover on my life. Who would have thought those things could be so darn expensive. I swear, some of them cost more than the phone itself!

I hear ya! I have a pretty bulky one, which I like because my phone won’t blow up if I drop it. Buuuut on the other hand, it’s bulky!

Heehee. I was planning a post like this for tomorrow because as much as it would have been nice to do it every day, that’s way too much commitment for me. O Holy Night is such a great Christmas song - the one by Celine Dion kind of rocks my socks.

I found out the truth about Santa pretty early … like around 4 years old. My mom was wrapping gifts and I was in the room with her, and she signed one of the gifts “to Kristen, from Santa.” She didn’t realize that I could read what she was writing! ;) But I didn’t say anything for a long time because I was afraid if I said I knew the truth, the gifts would go away haha!

::tear:: I’m sorry you were that little! And I agree, I never said anything either because I didn’t want the presents to go away!

I feel like I’m one of the only people who hasn’t seen A Christmas Story! My favourite Christmas movie growing up was always The Santa Clause. The original - none of that sequel nonsense! :P

It smells exactly like a perfume I had to have (and now can’t remember the name of!).

Hey Chels…Just had to drop this here as I think it is AMAZING and well…I can for sure see you as a mother so this will come in handy and I think you will agree it really is the best way to “break it” to kids when the time comes about Santa.

Oh and on my wishlist is a flat screen HD tv….I still have a big bootie TV which I was totally fine with…… until I experienced HD while housekeeping. It ignited my materialistic lustfire.
What I need is dental work…what I want? HDTV. LOL. Sigh.

And so …right. I feel. Pass it along to your sis and niece…Charlie? In this day and age unfortunately the Qs come fast and well…isn’t this the “Santa” you believe in? Love how it ties to Christ.

Okay I’m totally with you on #4. I LOVE O Holy Night and it’s always so frustrating when the person singing it…never.should.sing.ever.

I actually remember finding out Santa Claus wasn’t real and being extremely mad at my parents for lying to me. I really want to explain to my future kids the real story of Saint Nicholas. My husband thinks it’ll be sad if our kids never believe in Santa… I still haven’t made up my mind as to what to do!

:( I don’t know if I was mad or not. I think I just didn’t say anything because I wanted the presents to keep coming! ;)

How funny…my first Christmas away from home (with the now Hubs) we had just gotten our puppy on Christmas Eve. That and the traditions we started made being all grown up and away from home much more bearable. :)
