greek me

November 13, 2010

I won’t lie to you all – I really enjoy yogurt. Like REALLY enjoy it. Particularly, Greek yogurt. Over the course of the past year, I have completely cut dairy out of my diet. No milk, cheese, ice cream, yogurt – nothing. Dairy gives me absolutely horrible stomach problems, and I can’t handle it.

With that being said, I’ve been doing some research and some reading. What I’ve discovered is the majority of people who cannot digest milk, cheese, and ice cream for some reason are able to digest Greek yogurt. Basically, Greek yogurt is low in lactose due to the straining process and is loaded up with pro-biotic cultures to aide in the digestion process

So, I took a jump – a leap of faith actually.

And now all I have to do is wait.

hey chelsey - ive totally had problems with dairy also but greek yogurt has been fine! also i think the QUALITY of the dairy product really matters, because for instance, i could never eat cheese in the states without stomach pains but here in italy, the fresh cheese has been GREAT and it’s actually made me feel BETTER! it was such a pleasant surprise!

I’m the same way with dairy. Usually I can eat greek yogurt but sometimes I just start to eat it everyday and I think the build up of lactose tends to get to me and I have to stay away from it for a while.

Hope you can stomach it!

I hope all goes well! I can’t eat regular yogurt or greek yogurt but for some reason goat milk’s yogurt is okay with my stomach.

I agree Greek Yogurt is far better than all other yogurts. In fact, I can’t do other yogurts. So, it works out well.

Btw..your jar of goodies looks fantastic.

You would faint at the amount of dairy I consume (at least a cup of yogurt and generous with the cheese daily…oops).
Anyway, greek yogurt is great. So is goat yogurt. I recently discovered sheep’s cheese and yogurt (supposed to be even easier on the digestive system than goat or cow) and that’s good too.
It all causes me discomfort to some degree to be honest, but I try not to think about it anymore. Life is too short. I think a lot of it is stress and overthinking and all that…and that a lot of us can handle more than we think.

I should tell my mom to try greek yogurt. She’s lactose intolerant. And then there’s my dad and sister who don’t eat dairy by choice. I don’t know how I got out of having any dairy issues!
