fun facts friday – disney style

January 6, 2012

1. In case you are wondering, walking around Disney for two days before a half marathon is pretty stupid if you think about it. My feet are screaming at me – so I am taking it easy today and only am going to the parks this morning.

2. Crumbling a Babycakes donut on top of your oatmeal is the best idea in the world… more to come about that one! These made me think of my trip to NYC to visit a certain awesome lady!

3. I want to make these the second I walk through my door on Sunday.

4. I want to live in Cinderella’s castle – that’s the only thing that will now keep me happy in life. And my mom and I talked about how I would never pay for my child to have a $100 Harry Potter robe because I thought that was ridiculous, but the second I see those little girls dressed up as princesses, I’m all over it. (Don’t even talk to me about gender stereotypes… blah blah blah)

5. I’ve never run a race in the dark before. Is it silly that I am kind of nervous I am going to trip over my own two feet and break something?

6. Last night when my mom and I were riding the bus back to our hotel, we kept looking at each other and saying “when the heck is our stop?”. My mom was convinced we missed it – I was convinced we didn’t. When the last of the riders got off, the driver turned on the lights, and asked us where our stop was, we told her. She then told us it was her first stop and we missed it. #fail

7. I am going to be starting a new series next week called “Back to Basics”. I’m really excited about it – and who knows, maybe I’ll actually get a recipe up in this joint since that hasn’t happened in weeeeks. I am so sorry to fail you.

8. All of your responses to my skin care post were awesome. Thank you to all the lurkers who came out of the creeper shadows to comment on what I should do with my life – I love you. Now I just have to figure out what to do with all the opinions that were given. Gaaaaaah.

9. I throw everything away – E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G. It probably drives the Husband crazy, and sometimes I look for things only to figure out I have already thrown them away. Before we left for our trip, my mom found an old Disney park hopper ticket in one of her dresser drawers. I looked at the back of it, and it was from 1999 when we came as a family when I was… 12. That was half my lifetime ago. Well, it served her well because she still had 3 days worth of Disney fun left on that hopper and they let her use it. Savings of $300!?!?!? What the heck – I need to become a hoarder.

10. Official splits will be tweeted during my race tomorrow morning for all who are interested – I know you all want to wake up at 5:30 (or 4:30 if you’re on Central time) to see those, right? RIGHT!

11. Happy Friday – Have a magical day! ;)

OK so i wont be walking around 2 days before my half next month ;)

You won’t trip! They have big old spot lights on the course and the sun will
come up after the first few miles. Plus, you’re running through the castle! Who cares what time of day it is! Good luck!!! PS-after you leave Magic Kingdom, the course gets pretty boring. Make sure you have good music for miles 7-12ish, the last mile you’ll just be pumping and ready to run through the finish.

Good luck with the race! No I would be nervous too…not that you should be! With regards to the skincare I think I commented but I can’t remember… anyway I have the same skin type/issues as you and I use Image skincare products (the ageless range, the facial cleanser) and then the daily defense moisturiser. They have glycolic acid in them so penetrate the skin rather than just the surface layer. I think they’re made in Florida?!? Might be cheaper to pick them up from a dermatoligist while you’re there?! Quite expensive in Ireland but well worth it..one bottle of each has lasted over 6 months now!

I went to Disneyworld when I was approximately 4 and barely remember it, but Cinderella’s castle is one thing I’ll never forget. I was mad because I couldn’t go visit her inside… lol

My mom is the queen of not throwing things out. I’m always telling her to get rid of stuff (mostly for selfish reasons of not having to be the one to do it one day!) and I could just see her pulling something like that and then she’d be all “see! I told you it would come in handy!” Haha. Good luck tomorrow!

Jamie @ Don't Forget the Cinnamon January 6, 2012 at 8:12 am

Don’t worry-I ALWAYS get nervous about tripping while running in the dark! But, I never have if that makes you feel better?

You’re right, walking around the park on all that cement can make your feet super tired and tender. Take care of your feet before your run! …..If I ever get blessed with a little girl, you can bet she’ll have one heck of a princess outfit! I’m with you! (my boys will be dressed in dirt or their daddy’s football uniform) I’m not judging!…. Golly your princess would be adorable! (just sayin :) )
HAVE FUN!

Katie January 6, 2012 at 9:36 am

I also throw everything away!! Meeker will be like…”where is that bill/cookie/card/receipt?” and I always look at him sheepishly and then start digging through the trash can.

And I’d have to wake up at 3:30 to see your splits…so I’ll just catch them when I wake up later. :-) But good LUCK!!! I’m do excited for you.

(and enjoy those crackers when you get back home!)

Good luck at the race!

I always wanted to get married in the Magic Kingdom castle. Then I heard that the waiting list is 3 years long, and I don’t want to put that kind of pressure on my current boyfriend 8)

Good luck with your race! That’s so funny about missing your bus stop - I reckon you did it deliberately so you could get a nice tour of Disney in, right, right???

A Babycakes donut on top of breakfast? Okay, I need to know more about this!!!

“walking around Disney for two days before a half marathon is pretty stupid if you think about it.” — girl, I did the same thing about 8 years or so ago when Scott and I ran the Disney half together, too. We were so excited and loving the park and exploring that by the time the race came, we had already done like two marathons just on our daily explorations!

They honored a ticket from 1999? Now that’s cool. And that she HAD IT!!??

Reply

Stefanie @TheNewHealthy January 6, 2012 at 12:49 pm

Good luck on your race!!! And I throw away everything too. Even at other people’s houses - mainly my parents. But seriously, a $300 savings?? I may just become a hoarder too!!

J @ ... semplicemente j ... January 6, 2012 at 1:02 pm

Would love to do the Disney HALF one day .. it must be great to run a race at night … and I am happy about the ticket … but I am like you … I am quick to throw away things pretty quickly … Good luck!

Reply

Kaila@HealthyHelper January 6, 2012 at 1:03 pm

OMG THAT IS SO AWESOME!!! I can’t believe they let you use the pass! SO cool!

And I would definitely be nervous for a night race too….probably bc I’ve never done one before! But you’ll be fine girl! It’ll be the experience of a lifetime!

I am SOOO jealous! I love Cinderella and all things revolving around her. It’s weird I’m sure but I’m totally ok with it;)

Reply

Amber K January 6, 2012 at 1:55 pm

Wow, I can’t believe she still had that! How cool that they actually let her use it. I’m definitely throwing things away and then sometimes wishing I hadn’t. But never so much that I’d willingly let the clutter pile up.

Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin January 6, 2012 at 2:18 pm

I want to live in a castle too! When I was younger I was obsessed with the castle in The Beauty and the Beast - the library was amazing! :D

Good luck tomorrow girl! I know you’re going to rock it!

Yay! I can’t believe your race is finally here! I can’t wait to hear the recap. You’re going to rock it. I’ve never run in the dark before either- hopefully it won’t be too bad.
Oh, and I’m the saaame way with the little princess dresses. They’re just irresistible.

Reply

Maria @ Beautiful Busy Bee January 6, 2012 at 6:17 pm

Ooh are you running the marathon that goes through Disney World? I know someone who ran that last year! :) Good luck!

Reply

Michelle B. January 6, 2012 at 7:15 pm

The race is in the dark?! I did not realize that! I think I’d be a little nervous too, but it sounds like it will be pretty exciting! Good luck!

I am exactly the same about throwing things away - I can’t stand to have anything I don’t need. Once in a blue moon I’ll realize I need something that I got rid of, but it’s totally worth it. But now I’m rethinking it since your mom saved $300!

Can’t wait for the Back to Basics series! I’m intrigued!
