fall bucket list

September 18, 2012

One thing I love about living in the Chicago land area is the fact that I get to experience all four seasons. I go back and forth on which one is my favorite, and I always go back to fall. The crisp morning temperatures, the soups and chilis, the activities – I just love it. Ashley posted a fall bucket list last week, and I can’t help but join in on the fun!

Question: What are you looking forward to doing this fall?

Love this….I’m planning one for Friday. I’m looking forward to apple picking too. I’ve never been before, but always wanted to.

I went apple picking yesterday right near Rockford. I loved that it was a small farm. and they actually did U-pick (I guess not all in the area are allowing it this year). It was Valley Orchard-I will be posting more about it in the next day or two. :)

haha I bet my husband wishes my fall bucket list includes that! ;)

The #1 item on my fall bucket list is to go running through my city’s arboretum once the leaves have changed on a crisp, cool Sunday morning. I think that the high I get from that will be enough to carry me through the depths of winter!! :)

Reply

cleaneatingchelsey September 19, 2012 at 6:02 am

That sounds perfect!!

Leah @ Chocolate and Wild Air September 18, 2012 at 6:45 am

I used to live in Florida where the seasons are nonexistent. Now that I live in Boston, I have to say that Fall is by far my favorite holiday! I love how you can FEEL it coming. I love the idea of a fall bucket list, I’m definitely going to have to do that this year!

Reply

cleaneatingchelsey September 19, 2012 at 6:03 am

I agree - love the crisp feelingin the air!

Reply

Debbie September 18, 2012 at 6:59 am

Love Starved Rock! One of our favorite places to hike. Check out Matthieson while you’re out there. Very cool state park to hike. Obviously I’m in the Chicago area as well - wondering where you go apple picking? We’re looking for a new place.

Reply

cleaneatingchelsey September 19, 2012 at 6:03 am

I’ve actually never been to Matthieson! We always go to an apple farm out in Coloma Michigan, but I have to call and see if they’re even doing u-pick this year!

Tracey September 18, 2012 at 7:11 am

The local county fair!!! I’m taking four 11 year olds out of school all day Friday for a fun day at the fair. (I guess I shouldn’t be telling a teacher this!)

Reply

I’m going to tell on you! ;)

I reeeeeally want to go apple picking too, but are orchards even letting us after the brutally dry summer?! I hope so because that would seriously make my life. Please pass this info along to my husband, or better yet, I should totally do a post like this and conveniently have the post open when he chooses to use my laptop hahah.

Reply

cleaneatingchelsey September 19, 2012 at 6:04 am

Yeah, I have to call ahead and see which ones are allowing u-pick!

Abby @ Change of Pace September 18, 2012 at 7:27 am

I think my favorite item on your list is to eat a caramel apple! They’re my fave treat!
I think #1 on my fall bucket list is to go for a couple runs in the river valley once the leaves change colour and start to fall. I love that crunch on the ground!

All of those things are on my list too (except for Starved Rock…I used to live in Chicago, so that would have been an option, but now that I’m in Minneapolis, I want to hike up by Duluth)! I’d just add that after apple picking I want to make an apple pie!

Reply

Camping with family….I hear Turkey Run is just as pretty, if not more so than Starved Rock. I hear that you will have to present a stamped ticket from Turkey Run in order to ride the fall hayride at the Nastepniaks this year……

I would have to agree with baking pumpkin seeds, and add something a little extra to them, carve a pumpkin, and find a new pumpkin flavored recipe to make! Also, drink as many pumpkin spiced lattes as possible! :-)

Reply

I’d also like to go to a Halloween party, go hiking with my new Canon once the leaves start to really turn colour and have a bonfire with friends.

I’m going to try to bake a pie that’s out-of-the-ordinary for me. I always stick with apple, pumpkin, and pecan. This season, I’m going to try something new (for me) like rhubarb, sweet potato, or anything with “maple” in the title!

I love Fall because I love fall fashions, I love foggy days, I love when tasks slow down & when family picks up.. I live in southern California, so we definitely don’t experience the seasons like you do, but there are still so many things I love about fall! I love pullin out my Hunter rain boots too! That’s the best :)

Reply

Leanne @ Healthful Pursuit September 19, 2012 at 2:19 pm

I really want to go to Gainesville (my old college town) and see a Florida football game. I haven’t been to a game in years, and I think it would be fun to show my hubby my old “stomping grounds!” ;)

Reply

Lauren September 20, 2012 at 7:32 pm

Colorado definitely gets to enjoy all four seasons too. I could go straight from Fall to Spring, but I guess other people who live here actually enjoy winter… My list would include wearing boots, scarves and sweaters and drinking more Pumpkin Spice Lattes than are probably necessary :)
