Is everyone ready for the holiday weekend? I’m not going to lie – I love the concept of the 4th (you know, Freedom and all that jazz) but it’s not my favorite holiday by far. I love going to the lake for the holiday weekend, but fireworks aren’t really my thing.

There. I said it.

Yesterday was a jam packed day, and I was exhausted by the time it was all over. I woke up around 6:00 in the morning with a grumbling stomach, so I got up and made myself some breakfast.

Breakfast – 6:30 AM

Breakfast was delicious. I was staaarrrving, so I made a plate of eggs, toast with peanut butter, and cottage cheese with blueberries. It totally hit the spot.

IMG_1365-001

The rest of the morning was full of me having my niece and nephew doing all sorts of hard labor around my house. ;) My nephew spent a couple of hours weeding my garden (it was HORRIBLE – now it looks amazing), and my niece spent a few hours doing all of our baseboards, washing our floors, and walking Charlie. I’ll tell you, it is quite nice to have then living a mile down the road at times like this. They were hard workers!

I let them choose whether they wanted to be paid or taken out to lunch, and they chose lunch. CRAZY kids, but apparently they love food just as much as me. So, we headed to Panera for lunch.

Lunch – 12:30 PM

I got a You Pick Two with the Chicken Cobb with Avocado salad and the Summer Corn Chowder soup (soooo good!). I was stuffed afterward – I’m getting to that point where regular meals make me so full because there’s just no room.

IMG_1366

After lunch we ran a few errands, I dropped them off at my mom’s house, and then I went home for a while before my doctor’s appointment that afternoon.

Snack – 2:30 PM

I ate an Enjoy Life S’mores bare before I headed out the door to my doctor’s appointment.

IMG_1368

Just some notes – graduated to appointment every two weeks instead of four (!!!!), negative for gestational diabetes (!!!!!), and measuring 34 weeks pregnant (!!!!).

After the appointment my mom and I went to go see World War Z. I ate a bunch of her popcorn after telling her I didn’t want anything (whoops ;) ). The movie was GOOD. If you’re not a zombie person (I’m not), you’ll still love it. It was less about the zombies and more about how they were going to stop them/find something that would cure everything. So so good.

Dinner – 7:30 PM

When I got home, I was pretty hungry (again), so I quick cooked up a chicken sausage and green beans to eat for dinner. I buy the sweet apple chicken sausage from Trader Joe’s – it’s my favorite!

IMG_1369

Snack – various times throughout the night ;)

After dinner I had a strawberry Outshine bar while I was watching TV, and before I went to sleep I ate a few spoonfuls of peanut butter. It hit the spot and stuck to my ribs pretty well because I slept like a rock from 10:00-3:00. The hours of 3:00-5:00 were a different story though. ;)

I’m signing off for the rest of the week, so I hope you all have a great 4th of July weekend (if you’re in the US – if not, just have a great weekend.)!!

Smart kids choosing to go to lunch with aunt Chelsey! I love panera, the you pick two there is always a great choice! A s’mores bar sounds great! Hope you have a great Fourth of July! It’s not usually my favorite holiday but, my parents are in town for the weekend so I’m excited about it!

Are you not a vegetarian anymore? Is it for medical reasons/pregnancy or are you just kind of over it…? I’m curious bc I’ve been a veg for the past almost 4 years and have been considering adding chicken back into my diet, but am having a serious internal struggle over it.

These baby girls just make me want to eat meat for some reason! I never craved it before and I definitely didn’t enjoy the texture before getting pregnant - now I love it. It’s so weird. I had a horrible struggle over it too to be perfectly honest with you. I typically do lean towards a veg diet still with just a little meat thrown into the mix - yesterday was just pretty meat heavy. The Husband’s family keeps referring to me as Phoebe from Friends (do you remember when she was pregnant and she craved meat?) - they keep telling me I need a Joey to not eat meat for me. hahaa!

That salad!! Mmm! Also, I must find that S’mores bar because who doesn’t love S’mores? Glad your appointment went well!

I love summer chowders! There’s something about them that make me not mind having hot soup in the summer! What brand of chicken sausage do you use if you don’t mind me asking? I got a sweet apple one from TJ’s, but surprisingly wasn’t the biggest fan.

They are the TJ’s brand - I LOVE them! Sorry you weren’t a fan! Which ones do you like better? Maybe I’m missing out and I don’t even know it! ;)

That salad looks awesome - you can’t go wrong with avocado!

I can’t watch end of the world type movies, they end up giving me nightmares.

Totally with you on the Fourth of July shenanigans. It always just feels like a regular ol’ summer night to me. Not that that’s a bad thing, because summer nights are the best, but I can think of at least five holidays I prefer!

I keep eyeing up the Panera Bread Summer Corn Chowder especially since it’s vegetarian! It definitely looks good! I love chunky soups, so Panera always has some good ones! I’m not a big fireworks fan, either, but I do love the little sparklers and stuff… Just not the big booms. They get on my nerves after a while. Have a great fourth of July!

I’m all about Easter & Christmas! The 4th has never really been an exciting holiday for my family- but living on the farm we are usually in harvest and working our bums off during the 4th.
However, last year we were with some of the neighborhood kids and they were lighting little fireworks. I specifically remember Jackson JUMPING when he heard a particularly loud boom! ……. he was still in the womb! It.was.crazy. Even now, he is still jumpy! :)

I’ll have to check out those chicken sausages…never tried them from TJ’s!

Fireworks are not my thing either. Or Wyatt’s thing. My neighbors have been shooting them off all week and waking them up. I need to move to a state where they’re illegal!

Reply

cleaneatingchelsey July 3, 2013 at 10:24 am

Poor baby! (Wyatt, not you. ;) ) They are illegal here unless it’s a town putting on a fireworks event. However, my neighbors certainly do NOT follow that law. So annoying.

haha, don’t cry Linda! I was vegetarian until these girls made me want to eat meat like crazy - it’s so so weird. I don’t know whether or not I’ll go back to being fully veg when they’re born - only time will tell!

Are you eating meat now? Is it because of your pregnancy? Please fill us in! Thanks and love your blog!

I addressed it a few months ago in a WIAW post - but these girls make me crave meat in the worst way!!! I typically still lean towards a vegetarian diet, but yesterday was pretty meat heavy. We’ll see if I go back to being veg after they’re born!

Hi Chelsey, I’m just wondering if you’ll be making a post about your dietary changes (eating meat during pregnancy) and how that’s been? Or if you plan on continuing eating meat post-pregnancy? As a vegetarian, I’d be really interested in reading about that.

You may just be the first American I’ve ever come across to admit that they’re not crazy about the 4th of July. I don’t get what all the fuss is about myself, but then again… I’m Canadian ;)

Looks delicious.
I’m the same with Canada Day - I mean I love it for certain parts - but I don’t love going too crazy. I get really anxious when there are SO many people around and there’s huge crowds. Just not a fan.
Hope you have an amazing holiday!

Alright. So I am definitely going to watch World War Z now. I personally like most sci-fi type movies as long as they aren’t too gory, but I admit that the commercials for this movie kind of freaked me out with the people climbing on top of each other. If you liked it though and don’t typically like those kinds of movies… I’ll probably like it too.

Can you tell that I am trying to talk myself into watching it? Lol. It sounds like it’s kind of action-y, right? :D

You had a very chickeny day :) What kind of chicken sausage do you buy? I found some coupons online for Applegates organic sausage and bought three different kinds last week- chicken and apple, spinach and feta, and Italian. My parents said they can’t taste any difference. Ha.

Reply

cleaneatingchelsey July 3, 2013 at 4:16 pm

It was definitely NOT gory at all - I think you’d like it. There were a few times that it made me jump just out of suspense, but I never looked away from the screen for any parts (I’m pretty squeamish - CANNOT watch The Walking Dead).

I did have a pretty chickeny day - haha! It was probably the most meat heavy day I’ve had for ummmm 5 years! ;) I get mine from Trader Joe’s!

Send your niece and nephew on down when you finish with them. I have some things I’m SURE they wouldn’t mind doing. ;-) Agreed…food over money, WHAT?! Actually, I’d probably end up spending my money on food. Great news about the girls! Sounds like everything is going well! Enjoy your LONG weekend with the fam!

I’ve been wondering how those Enjoy Life bars are. I love their chocolate chips and keep seeing the bars everywhere but wasn’t sure if they were good.

I was veg until my last baby, I craved meat and dairy like crazy!!! It was so strange eating it at first but pregnancy does much crazier things! Your allowed to eat however YOU want!!

I’m totally not into fireworks at all. I’m apparently a party pooper. I just get over them after about a minute. And I hate living in an apartment where the holiday lasts at least two weeks. People spend far too much money on fireworks here!

Reply

Christine @ BookishlyB July 3, 2013 at 10:59 pm

I’m with you on the fireworks, or at least the ones you buy at the road side stands and do in your front yard. Why not grab a was of cash and light it on fire? More efficient, if you ask me.

I remember how full I used to get! You don’t know what it means to eat frequent mini meals until you are pregnant, that’s for sure!!

PS- today I had a moment at a park/outdoor cafe when I had to nurse my little guy, but just didn’t have the right shirt on and didn’t want to start baring it all in public (so my friend and I had to walk back to her place). That being said, it made me think of your previous post about nursing tank tops. Yes…yes go buy some NOW! hahah..I am going to pick up a couple ASAP!
