WIAW & baby update

July 10, 2013

Gooooooood morning and Happy Hump Day! (sidenote: I swear that’s a clean link ;) ) Before I get started on my eats from yesterday, I wanted to give you all an update on these two little ladies since I won’t be updating about them until next Tuesday.

My ultrasound yesterday went really well. My mom and aunt came with me, and my aunt had never come to one with me before so it was fun for her to be there. The girls are both doing really well, and I figured out why I feel like Baby A is head butting her way out of me – it’s actually her feet! Both the girls flipped and are breech right now. We’ll see if they turn any more before D-Day. The girls actually both weigh MORE than I thought they would as well! Baby A is clocking in at 2 pounds 13 ounces and Baby B is clocking in at 2 pounds 11 ounces – well above the average for 28 weeks! Grow girls, grow!

Allright, time to get this food show on the road. Apparently my decreased hunger I spoke of yesterday was a lie – I was starving all day yesterday. I also tried not to eat too much in one sitting so I wouldn’t get super stuffed.

Breakfast – 6:00 AM

Breakfast was super early – I could not sleep for the life of me on Monday night so I figured I might as well just get out of bed and get the day started. Breakfast was oatmeal with blueberries and about 2.5 tablespoons of crunchy peanut butter. I wish I were joking about that portion, but I’m not. I ate a spoonful after I topped my oatmeal!

July 9, 2013 061
I will be going with overnight oats today though – too warm for a 90 degree day!

Snack – 9:00 AM

July 9, 2013 065
I started to get hungry for a snack during my chores this morning (okay, really I was taking a break and chatting with Courtney) and snagged a few bites of cold leftover enchiladas in the fridge. When that didn’t do the trick, I scrambled up a few eggs. That did the trick!

Lunch – 11:30 AM

July 9, 2013 066
Lunch was thought out well in advance this morning. All I wanted was a sandwich, so that’s what I went with! I had an extremely juicy peach on the side.

Snack – 1:45 PM

July 9, 2013 067
When I was running errands for the Husband before my ultrasound appointment, I had a hankering for a crunch ice cream cone from The Creamery. I didn’t eat the cone part (obviously) and just ate the ice cream until I got down to the cone. I guess it was the act of licking an ice cream cone that I really wanted.

Dinner – 6:00 PM

July 9, 2013 073
Dinner was a gooooood one. I fired up the grill and made myself a veggie burger (and regular burgers for the Husband) as well as some fresh green beans from our garden. I also made a quick broccoli cole slaw by mixing a bag of broccoli slaw with raisins and poppyseed dressing (Newman’s Own). It was so so good. I am definitely going to be making that a regular thing around here! I had second helpings of both sides. :)

Snack(s) – TBD

Since I’m writing this Tuesday night almost right after dinner, you’d better believe there will be more snackage in my future this evening. Not sure what, but I kind of want to try the lemon CHO I bought yesterday!

Today is a busy one – my mom and I are taking my nephew shopping for his birthday (the big 1-0!) and later tonight I have a breastfeeding class I am going to. Luckily, I’m a nice wife and I’m not making the Husband come with me. The poor guy is at his wit’s end with work – he needs to stay home and relax (or work some more in the office :) ).

Adios until I “see” you again!

It sounds like you had a great day of eats! I love ice cream comes, I think they are way more fun to eat than ice cream from a bowl.

That’s amazing the girls are growing so much!

Why does your oats always look so good and fluffy! Do you still make them on the stove top with banana? What brand and type of oats do you get?
Share your oats secret. :)

Reply

cleaneatingchelsey July 10, 2013 at 9:43 pm

I make them on the stovetop (although I regretted it because I was sweating eating them!). I just soak 1/2 cup oats with 1 cup water for about 20 minutes before I add some milk. Then I cook them and slice in banana and whip it until the banana is pureed into the oats.

I have never seen or heard of a crunchy ice cream cone before that looks amazing and perfect for the heat!

I’m pretty sure 2.5 tbsp is less than some eat with their oatmeal. Haha. Seriously, sometimes it looks like they put a whole cup on there ;) And then have a few “scoops straight from the jar.” Lol. But it’s just so good :)

I’m not going to lie, I was pretty impressed that they’re already that big! Although, I can believe it. The weight of about 6 pounds of babies is hard to miss! :)

Reply

Stacey July 10, 2013 at 8:43 am

I think I have at least 2.5 T of almond butter every day and I’m not pregnant ;)

I’ve always wanted twins, so I’m curious if you know the stats behind breastfeeding for both? Is any mother able to successfully breastfeed two babies just like one? Sorry if this sounds stupid, I’m just wondering how much harder it is for the body to feed two babies than one - or perhaps it’s not much different at all? Maybe this is something you’ll know after your bf class :)

Reply

cleaneatingchelsey July 10, 2013 at 9:47 pm

I’m not sure of the stats, but I know it’s possible and pretty commonly done. Nursing is like supply/demand. The more you nurse, the more you produce. Hopefully I won’t have any supply problems, but we if I do, we’re not opposed to supplementing with formula as needed. And if you can master tandem feeding (which I’m hoping to), it shouldn’t be much harder than feeding just one once you get the hang of it!

The lactation consultant that taught our class said that she has successfully helped a mother ONLY breastfeed QUADRUPLETS before. That was impressive.

Reply

Rosanna July 11, 2013 at 3:58 pm

Wow! That’s awesome! I had only one little one and really had a hard time producing enough milk and ended up having to supplement with formula. I’m so glad you are going into it with an open mind. I felt like such a failure and looking back on it not, that’s just rediculous. You do what you can. It’s better for the wee ones if your not all stressed out about stuff and just go with the flow. Happy mommy and daddy makes for a happy bambinos! Good luck with everything!

Reply

cleaneatingchelsey July 11, 2013 at 3:59 pm

Thanks Rosanna. I would love to exclusively use my own milk (through nursing or pumped when I go back to work), but I know it doesn’t always work out that way. We’ll see how it goes!

I’m curious about your sandwich only because my husband and I are trying for our first so I’ve been researching everything I can get my hands on about pregnancy ;) it looks like cold cuts. Is that not a Listeria concern? Are there certain types that are safe? (please say yes!)

Reply

cleaneatingchelsey July 10, 2013 at 9:50 pm

I’ve talked to my doctors as well as several nurses, and they have all told me to just be safe. Typically if you’re buying the meat yourself from a deli, make sure you get home and put it in the fridge right away - or get a prepackaged kind (with no nitrates for both of these). They told me to be leery of getting deli meats on sandwiches from restaurants/fast food type places because the bacteria grows if it’s been sitting out. But basically they told me I could eat it. :)

Reply

cleaneatingchelsey July 10, 2013 at 9:51 pm

PS - But check with your doctor too before you do it. And good luck on the baby making!

I hope it is for you as well - but if it’s not, don’t get too down. I can just remember the heartache month after month of trying. It’s horrible how much of an impact it can have on you. Stay positive!

Reply

Melissa @ Gracefully Falling Down July 11, 2013 at 11:03 am

Thank you so much. It’s true, it can really wear on a person. We’ve only been trying 4 months now, but the first 2 months were the hardest because I was convinced we’d get pregnant the first month. CONVINCED. Now I think I’m just hoping for before the end of the year! I’m so glad I found your blog through Bloglovin. You are such a sweetheart!

Courtney @ Sweet Tooth, Sweet Life July 10, 2013 at 9:49 am
